Not unlike Mercury making its transit of the sun this morning (youtu.be...), I think this playlist has also gone retrograde.

I was at band practice last week, and started playing the "Cars" riff on the bass, couldnt remember why it was in my head until now lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe. Listening to steel pans outdoors is wonderful but in a concert hall it takes on the power of a metal gig.
  9:18am TheLoneliestMonk:

Thanks for remembering maestro morricone's birthday, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am LastWhiteRhino:

@ Gentleman Joe: You are "LIVE" and kickin' it.

Avatar 9:20am Joe McG:

@LMonk: It was fun to celebrate it with Devon last week on "Morricone Island."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Andrew_in_WI:

@joe McG. I've spent time in the Eastern Caribbean. Steel drum orchestras are definitely a thing down there

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Asheville Jon:

FELDER!!! sorta
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am pantz:

I wonder if there's a steel drum cover of "Moby Dick". That would be tremendous.
  9:27am John from Florham park:

@Joe no to that about steel drums
  9:27am LES Brian:

I remember some years back seeing on YouTube a steel drum band rendition of Joy Division tunes. It was fantastic.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am VincentNifigance:

@LES Brian: Check the second track played today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am WR:

The pans are so beautiful that I can sorta almost enjoy even over played tunes like HC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Asheville Jon:

you have any steel drum Billy Joel covers Joe?
  9:28am morphe':

Panorama Ps. A band can win for Original or Old school pan or best cover....

Great T&T story about a boy who just wants to play Pan... It was considered gangster back in the day????? Came from the discarded Oil Drums of WWII..
there was always drum music in T&T (illegal - due to racism of the colonial UK gov't), but the drum as it is now comes from the oil industry..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am VincentNifigance:

The sounds you'd hear from the live band on the veranda of the damned.
Avatar 9:28am djsheilab:

I only had to hear the first two notes to know that it might be time for my Monday morning humiliation scheme. GRRRRRR!!!!!
Avatar 9:29am Joe McG:

@Jon: I don't even know if that would help! @Sheila: But you LOVE this song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am melinda:

Hotel California sounds way better on steel drums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am VincentNifigance:

Sophisticated Bong-Bong.
  9:30am John from Florham park:

@DJsheliab you have a o admit a really good version of HC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Ken From Hyde Park:

@Joe - Yeah, we should co-sign an idea for Doug: Between live DJs, it should stream Steel Drum Mondays, Timpani Tuesdays, Snare Drum Sundays, etc. Saturdays are for concert drum solos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Asheville Jon:

but Joe, would playing steel drum Billy Joel be a way around the supposed station-wide ban on the man?
  9:31am John from Florham park:

@Melinda I agree
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am melinda:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am melinda:

@melinda: It's the next track on this LP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Asheville Jon:

how about Mummers Monday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am WR:

Pan band in person is amazing, low notes pulse you body powerfully but not violently. I've only experienced it a few times and it has been too long ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am VincentNifigance:

Oh no.
  9:34am morphe':

Out..Picking up the wee bairn from school =1535 now Madrid. I'll be back for the 45 section... Hey Joe!! Where ya goin' with those 45s in yer hand..
Speaking of 45s - T&T and Jamaica have super high gun homicide per capita but no gun factories... thank Uncle Sam.....
  9:35am LES Brian:

@Vince, I see it now. I had stepped away from the radio! Never a good move.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am VincentNifigance:

Whi is responsible for this derangement?
  9:35am Elderly Former DJ:

I remember when steel drums were all made of wood and only cost a penny! Speaking of pennies, I just pledged to Joe's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am VincentNifigance:

@LES Brian: Sit the hell down!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am VincentNifigance:

Hey John! It’s good here! The socialist incumbent in the Seattle City Council race officially defeated the challenging candidate backed by Amazon. Plus I’ve got the day off of work.

this song doesn't make me dislike Pat Benata's talents any less...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Krys O.:

  10:31am John from Florham park:

@Krys o I still love Kate bush great talent who never made it big over here
  10:31am Brendan:

Not sure why she attempted a straight up copy of the vocals Kate did . Gimme the original or a different arrangement like Jah Wurzel anyday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am VincentNifigance:

That was a crime...there was no passion.
  10:35am Martinibomb:

@Joe we must have a similar voice because my wife just thought your back announcing was me hah!
Avatar 10:35am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Heights really is a great toon - Melody & Dynamix
. .that Gittar version shows that - if more...by numbers...
  10:37am Colinfromvictoriabritishcolumbiacanada:

It's the exact same arrangement of Kate's Wuthering Heights. Mimicking the voice perfectly too. I actually thought this was the original before you mentioned the credit!
Avatar 10:39am Joe McG:

@martinibomb: Hi to the wife! :)
  10:39am PriceCheckonRegisterFive:

The Stereolab reissues are actually surprisingly cheap: 3 LP sets were selling for $25 at their shows, they are a bit more in the shops but still pretty darn cheap by todays standards...
  10:40am Brendan:

She has nowhere near the chops Kate does . Straight up covers seem self indulgent.
Avatar 10:41am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

....Pat less 'in character' than Kate
...made me imagine a straight Gittar version anyhow...sometimes I can't tell the difference afters...
Avatar 10:41am Snoochienucci:

that one was awesome

@Joe , amen . Battlefield was an original. And a great choreographed video in that 80s time period. Pat covering Wuthering Heights was like bringing in a stepmom. A hot stepmom though. Ewww that didn’t sound right did it?

@fred: I actually have it right here. Not sure if I'm going to play it or not!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Hughie Considine:

Sting's final pronunciation of "loch" is priceless.
  11:03am SeanG:

love this guitar solo coming up
  11:03am melinda:

This brings back memories of brisk autumn mornings in 8th grade.
Avatar 11:03am βrian:

The best police cover is a pall.
  11:03am John from Florham park:

@Paul hope it’s not hot child in the city I would run into traffic:)
  11:03am SeanG:

go andy!
Avatar 11:03am Joe McG:

@Hughie: But what happens after the monster goes into the cottage? Does he have tea and crumpets?
  11:04am paul:

Don't do it, John!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Hughie Considine:

Sting stands too close to him and chaos ensues.
  11:04am John from Florham park:

@Melinda we must be the same age remember this from middle school dances when they were not playing disco songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Hughie Considine:

Man, Stewart Copeland is a beast!
  11:06am Brendan:

Love the narrative. Ride the tube into town. Get kicked in the crotch. The the ambiguous ‘meanwhile , back at the loch’ ...
  11:07am SeanG:

was just gonna say the same thing Hughie
Avatar 11:07am Lixiviated Life:

11:06 AM ?

Avatar 11:09am V Priceless:

  11:09am SeanG:

Hey Joe! I'm reading that same Nick Lowe book right now too. so great! yeah he was a total acid head
  11:11am melinda:

I think it was a hit, it got a lot of play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am pantz:

Andy Summers' "Mother" was the best song on that album.
  11:12am melinda:

I’m terrible with lyrics, I never realized what a weird song it was.
  11:12am SeanG:

MTV played that synchronicity II video all the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am steveo'n:

  11:17am SheaB:

Used to say "Shea like in stadium" now fewer people have heard of it.. and if I say "Shea like in butter" there is a creepy connotation.. Love the show, Joe!
  11:17am melinda:

I’m wearing my Tape Rat shirt today, wore it yesterday too. Tape Rat forever.
Avatar 11:18am Joe McG:

Many thanks, steveo!

Avatar 11:28am Joe McG:

@Shea: Thanks, I'm glad I got it right! @SeanG: Yeah, I think he took more acid than Hawkwind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am fred:

Many thanks Joe for making sure my pledges got credited the way I intended, even though it wasn't to your show. I really appreciate your help

@fred: My pleasure, fred.

I see the light! I'm about to speak in tongues.
  11:40am John from Florham park:

@Pantz play with snakes too:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am pantz:

@John that kinda stuff goes on not far from where I am. Appalachia has a lot of those fundamental Baptist snake charmers.

I think this set merits the Sinner's Crossroads' seal of approval.
  11:44am John from Florham park:

@Pantzai believe it kinda like deliverance right
Avatar 11:44am Joe McG:

@Ken: I played a track from Kevin's premium to ensure it!
Avatar 11:45am Joe McG:

See you later today, Mark Hurst! I think you should use Ebony Steel Band as your new theme music next summer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Lewis:

Just about to point out Sinner's Crossroads and see that we that point has already been made - Praise the Lord!
