Hell will continue to be raised
  12:03am Dean:

Richard Meltzer played this one on KPFK c. 1980. I was in the studio.
Avatar 12:04am Keilidh:

hey!! yes, the hits are still comin and even more evil!

stay tuned, i'm airing a live set with Johnny Scuotto Band in about an hour!

fortunately (?) i'm wearing Marcel's bauhaus tshirt right now
  12:09am Chris:

Midnight Bauhaus, as it should be. Thanks for kicking off the show with this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Ken From Hyde Park:

Every week, I can't walk after this show. I get cryppled!
  12:10am sufferwords:

@Dean - Hepcats From Hell - great show Meltzer did- VOM!!!
Avatar 12:12am Keilidh:

@ken - new favorite pun
  12:13am Dean:

Yep. I took him out to lunch so he'd write a review of the restaurant, which he did. (He incorporated it into his novel.) Then I got him a lecture gig at my undergrad college. He interviewed me on Hepcats. I wonder these days how he is, especially after the demise of Nick Tosches.
  12:14am BH:

2020... the end of the 2010s is approaching
  12:17am Dean:

I saw them hella years ago at the Roxy. They were okay.
  12:17am Dean:

Bauhaus, I mean.
Avatar 12:25am Franco Twinkie:

We've beat this horse before, Dean, but Hepcats From Hell was the only reason to stay home on Saturday night back then...to tape the show. It was so good and you knew that absolute comical terror and mayhem would prevail. Richard Meltzer always delivered.
Avatar 12:32am Franco Twinkie:

Sufferwords, I saw VOM opening for The Dickies at The Whisky in the spring of 1978. A Cherished memory for sure.
Avatar 12:33am Keilidh:

i feel like 78 was a really awesome music year, tho i'm open to evidence against it
  12:34am greatb:

it's the end, the end of the century / it's the end the end of the 2010s
  12:34am Dean:

I loved Hepcats, but I never thought of it in terms of "now or never," because media programming never dictated my day. I've never had to be home to hear or see such-and-such.

I visited the station once so Meltzer could interview me.

Damn, never saw VOM, but I have heard him read at Beyond Baroque and Al's Bar.
Avatar 12:34am Franco Twinkie:

Keilidh, I always work She Is Beyond Good And Evil into a spooky mix!
  12:35am BH:

it's the end of the ten-tury.. in like 7 weeks.
Avatar 12:35am Keilidh:

@franco - its spooktacular and newly remastered!
Avatar 12:36am Keilidh:

@BH - time needs to be stopped #CancelTime
  12:36am Dean:

Ground zero was '76. Thereafter it was great until about '79 or '80, when everything went to shit.
  12:39am BH:

One of the cats around here has started looming around me at 4pm and I'm guessing it's because she thinks it should be 5pm, which is around the time that she gets fed dinner (on the days where she's not asleep at dinnertime).
Avatar 12:39am Franco Twinkie:

I saw Ritchard read with the cream of Slash and No Magazine pontificators at that Unitarian church on 8th Street. Blew them all right through the stained glass windows and into the street.
  12:42am Dean:

I took him to dinner in 2000 to Higgin's, at the time his favorite restaurant in Portland. Last time I saw him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

How do we teach cats about Daylight Saving Time?
  12:43am jonny:

the pop group may be the greatest band of all time...they made gang of four...entertainment sound tame...remember we are all prostitutes...
Avatar 12:44am coelacanth∅))):

not a chance in hell any of those swans t wearers want to hear the first few releases by swans either
Avatar 12:44am Franco Twinkie:

Michael Gira was a presence around town with his goofy monster make-up before he was in bands.
Avatar 12:45am coelacanth∅))):

Avatar 12:45am Keilidh:

@coel - HA!
  12:45am BH:

to be honest, I wasn't paying full attention and for a moment I thought the topic was about guys in Zwan t-shirts and I was about to wonder how Billy Corgan's other group inspired such strong feelings
Avatar 12:47am Keilidh:

@bh - oh it's very easy for Billy Corgan to inspire strong feelings from me... and they aint good ones
  12:47am Dean:

Never liked Swans. Don't get 'em.
Avatar 12:47am Keilidh:

excuse me, WILLIAM, because he is a big boy now
Avatar 12:48am coelacanth∅))):

oh you've got a new avatar. very nice.
  12:48am jonny:

the swans were great before jarboe butted in...
Avatar 12:50am coelacanth∅))):

jonny i said the same thing for years but i grew to like a lot of the Jarboe years' stuff.
Avatar 12:52am coelacanth∅))):

- maybe i'm just getting soft in my old age.
...or maybe i'm a swans t-shirt-wearing poseur
- but i do still like the early stuff the best
Avatar 12:52am Keilidh:

yes, if you click my profile you can also peep my new logo which will be on the site soon!
Avatar 12:53am coelacanth∅))):

Keilidh Hamilton! Why you Cryptin"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

I have a Swans CD from the 90s packed away in a box somewhere.
Avatar 12:57am Franco Twinkie:

Giras greatest duo was him with the previously mentioned globs of fleshy putty stuck on his face and Bruce Kalberg with a piece of liver taped the top of his head. They would cause a ruckus at a show, then show up at a party later that night. I'm sure the liver was really starting to stink by then.
  12:57am greatb:

the video for Give Me Back My Man is amazing. Fred Schneider just earnestly rocking the tambourine the whole time
Avatar 12:58am Keilidh:

@greatb - yes!!! it's honestly my favorite b-52s song too
  1:01am greatb:

it's right up there for me as well, with Lava and 52 Girls
  1:02am jonny:

I remember seeing the swans early...and gira barechested would stand alone...on stage in silence...spotlight on just him...it would last 15 minutes...it would feel like an hour....
Avatar 1:04am Franco Twinkie:

I personally was getting a little tired of it all by 1980, but that didn't stop me from going out a lot.
  1:05am BH:

the Billy Idol mention just reminded me of the 90s Billy Idol Cyberpunk album, which was inspired by Billy Idol using computers and the internet in 1992.
Avatar 1:06am Keilidh:

@BH - ok WHAT i need to know more about that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

BH - I remember that coming out and the music press trying their hardest to push it on us... "It's really cool and timely we swear!"
  1:13am gina:

the best sax I've had all night...thanks johnny...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

We need more bands with saxomophones. Loving this!
Avatar 1:19am Keilidh:

yes Karel is a sax machine! glad yr enjoyin the set
Avatar 1:20am coelacanth∅))):

strong Nick Cave vibe here
  1:33am gina:

if Picasso fronted a band...this is how it may of sounded...cubist pop expressionism...three musicians...both paintings...loved it...
Avatar 1:34am Keilidh:

@gina - I agree! glad you enjoyed! you can check them out on instagram @johnnyscuottoband and they're also on Facebook and Bandcamp. They're putting out an EP soon!

Avatar 1:47am coelacanth∅))):

Thanks Johnny and y'all Great set!
Avatar 1:47am Keilidh:

they're a very new band! music video and EP coming soon. in the meantime, they have some live videos around on youtube!
  1:47am BH:

re: "Cyberpunk".. it's possible that "the future will be weird and technological" market was saturated in the early 90s. Also established people doing new things can be hit-or-miss

Not sure how deep the sample size is for "musician reads something and decides to record an album" backstories.. but Billy Idol reading William Gibson and recording Cyberpunk probably went better than when David Lee Roth read about the Mexican 18-27yo population and decided to re-record 'Eat Em and Smile' in Spanish
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54am Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

I was into NIN and Skinny Puppy and whatnot at the time.....Billy seemed sincere enough but it just didn't seem right ("this from the guy who did White Wedding?!").
