Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

Danny I’ve been fading around 9 our time the last two nights but I’m feeling a little more energetic tonight. Hope I can make it through your show.

Hey now!

@Flash: A Victorian ghost photo! Thank you Internet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Matt from New Orleans:

A Victorian forgery is more like it
Avatar 10:04pm Little Danny:

Coel: sounds like your Volvo was bewitched, what with its mushrooms and gremlins
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm chresti:

Hi Little Danny and flaming blue zombies!
Avatar 10:05pm Little Danny:

@Matt: It was a thing! en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 10:06pm Franco Twinkie:

That's me! Yup.
Avatar 10:07pm Little Danny:

And Chresti and Franco! Favorite ghouls ahoy
Avatar 10:07pm coelacanth∅:

i've had some bewitched volvos Danny, if not possessed; but this is not a volvo -and i don't see any shrooms yet!
it's an audi. maybe it knows how much i've talked shit about audis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’m well aware of that bullshit industry of the time. They also gave women laudanum for “hysteria”.
Avatar 10:10pm coelacanth∅:

Franco regarding your last posts -the water is exclusively on the passenger side.
and the plumbers goop (aquarian goop, etc...same thing) could only work if i can figure out how the water's getting in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Matt from New Orleans:

The song is suitably apocalyptic
Avatar 10:12pm Little Danny:

I find this Broadcast track genuinely unsettling
Avatar 10:12pm Franco Twinkie:

Funny, being the lord of the underworld and all that, you would think I could summons a good pizza to hell. Nope. I know a lot of you folks upstairs are having pizza tonight, so you think you could save me a slice or two. If every one just gives me one slice I will have pizza for eternity! Maybe I wouldn't be so evil if I could just get some good pizza.
Avatar 10:13pm Little Danny:

@Matt: GOOD. I want you awake, bud
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Matt from New Orleans:

Pizza is far better in the LA region that it was 15 years ago
Avatar 10:14pm Franco Twinkie:

Matt, you are right about that.
Avatar 10:14pm coelacanth∅:

you have to wait for someone who's recently discovered a lactose intolerance who's offered a free pizza to say "damn this pizza to hell".
then it's all yours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Matt from New Orleans:

What the hell was that last track about?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Matt from New Orleans:

I was referring to the seancing song
Avatar 10:17pm Little Danny:

@Matt: "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde"?
Avatar 10:18pm Little Danny:

Gotcha. It's mostly about atmosphere I'd say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Matt from New Orleans:

Why was it produced?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm chresti:

The last few songs have a nice sloshy quality,
Avatar 10:20pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, You're a pretty sharp cookie. You want to work for me on a part time basis? You could work your own hours and keep all the money and worldly possessions, I just want the souls...and some pizza.
Avatar 10:22pm Franco Twinkie:

Howard Kaylan and Marl Vollman. The surfing champions of Westchester.
Avatar 10:26pm coelacanth∅:

Franco sure, sounds fun.
you might have to buy out my contract with optimum online. they don't take pizzas, just souls. probably worth the investment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm doctorjazz:

Boooooo!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’ve been to Carlsbad Caverns Danny and this music was not playing while I explored them
Avatar 10:29pm Franco Twinkie:

See, there you go! I'm lousy with all this computer stuff. I could really use a good I.T. person. I've got enough morons to yank out fingernails.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm chresti:

It sounds like them, caverns
Avatar 10:30pm Little Danny:

Dr. Jazz and Mr. Hyde!
Avatar 10:33pm coelacanth∅:

"i.t."... imminent turmoil?
sure i can do that.
Avatar 10:33pm Little Danny:

@chresti: my tour thru Carlsbad Caverns was frustratingly absent of an eerie string score
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Matt from New Orleans:

This movie isn’t really scary Danny but it is pretty good
Avatar 10:35pm Little Danny:

Which movie, Matt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Matt from New Orleans:

Experiment in Terror
Avatar 10:37pm Little Danny:

Thanks for the tip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm chresti:

Did he say bring some blow?
Avatar 10:37pm Little Danny:

Probably!
Avatar 10:39pm Franco Twinkie:

As a portal to Hell, Carlsbad Cavern is certainly functional, but the storms drains next to The Rose Bowl in Pasadena are truly horrifying. And smelly too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Matt from New Orleans:

Is this the Da Doo Ron Ron Crystals?
Avatar 10:40pm Little Danny:

Do y'all have any fave haunted house movies? Big fan of the Changeling, the Conjuring (first one only), Hell House, and the Haunting of Hill House (both the late '50s original and recent remake)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm fleep:

No Trick or Treaters so far, we may have to eat all the candy ourselves. Greetings, haunted blueberries.
Avatar 10:42pm Little Danny:

@fleep: we fully decorated but no trick or treaters here. What am I gonna do with all these peanut butter cups now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm chresti:

Freeze them for next year, mmm
Avatar 10:43pm Franco Twinkie:

Probably The House On Haunted Hill with Vincent Price. My first terror orgasm as a wee child.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Matt from New Orleans:

Check out a Japanese movie Hausu Danny
Avatar 10:45pm Little Danny:

Hausu is great, a real trip
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm chresti:

The Mummy..gosh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Matt from New Orleans:

And if you’re looking for a zany musical about a family that buys an inn and then the guests start dying mysteriously check out Happiness of the Katakuris
Avatar 10:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Today The Twighlight Zone is fifty years old. They had a great show about it this afternoon on KCRW. I only heard part of it, but they have and archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Matt from New Orleans:

It’s a very loose remake of a good Korean movie The Quiet Family
Avatar 10:54pm Franco Twinkie:

I must say, this evening when I was driving home the sky was a brilliant pumpkin orange because of all the smoke.
Avatar 10:55pm Little Danny:

Good evenin' ParUbi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm chresti:

That sounds like a fun movie, Matt. Sounds a little like Beetlejuice
Avatar 10:57pm Little Danny:

@Franco: Whaat? Twilight Zone started in the late '50s no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Matt from New Orleans:

It’s way weirder and darker and bloodier than Beetlejuice
Avatar 10:58pm Franco Twinkie:

Danny, The Four Skulls Of Johnathan Drake is another good one that scared the crap out of me as a youngster.
Avatar 10:59pm Little Danny:

Thanks for the hot tip, Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm Matt from New Orleans:

Happiness of the Katakuris is on Amazon Prime apparently
Avatar 11:00pm Franco Twinkie:

Danny, they had real experts on the subject. I'm going to listen to the whole show later. I might be mixed up, but I don't think so.
Avatar 11:02pm coelacanth∅:

i watched the twilight zone in the 60s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm fleep:

"Where Is Everybody?" is the first episode of the American anthology television series The Twilight Zone. It was originally broadcast on October 2, 1959 on CBS.
Avatar 11:05pm Little Danny:

I know that episode!
Avatar 11:06pm Franco Twinkie:

In the program they talk about how Rod Serling saw all kinds of awful stuff during WW2. Well, when we were in high school my sister had a friend who's dad saved Rod's life in a combat situation. They got Christmas cards from Rod every year! This friend of my sisters was drop dead gorgeous and she taught me to drive a stick in her 1965 Mustang.
Avatar 11:08pm coelacanth∅:

Franco i remember that episode!
oh wait...
Avatar 11:12pm Little Danny:

@Franco: the creative wonders of PTSD!
Avatar 11:16pm coelacanth∅:

i only remember a few episodes, but one was a person having dreams of a plane getting closer and closer to the house, as a plane was in fact flying over the house every night. closer and closer until one night she (?) dreamt the plane crashed into the house and the next night insisted the family sleep in a different room, and...

i had real fears about that happening for a long time after that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm fleep:

If the dead roam free tonight, do they have to pay roaming charges all other nights?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm fleep:

And stop sniveling, whoever that is. Suck it up!
Avatar 11:22pm Little Danny:

Nice!

They've figured out other ways to communicate, Fleep. Whispers, tapping, moaning, etc. It's all one really needs.
Avatar 11:23pm Little Danny:

Sometimes you can hear the laughter on these R&B records with "crying"
Avatar 11:23pm coelacanth∅:

i should take this opportunity to mention that i learned to drive a stick on a dump truck from an old character who i worked with in the cemetery.
Avatar 11:25pm coelacanth∅:

...'dude was drop dead gorgeous too.
Avatar 11:26pm Little Danny:

YOU WORKED IN A CEMETERY?!?!

For the love of god please tell us this is true, coel
Avatar 11:27pm coelacanth∅:

i very like this version. my new 3rd favorite.

yes Danny, it s true.
Avatar 11:29pm Little Danny:

@coela: you are my Halloween best friend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm chresti:

Agree-great version.
Avatar 11:30pm northguineahills:

Thanks, LD, took, the nieces out trick-or-treating. Had fun, had Doug's stream running the whole time, even though my sis-in-law went to the 9s w/ the decorations.... (she was a witch w/ a crap load of multiple fog machines.... (headstones, speakers (that I wired w/ sounds) and child friendly inflatables)
Avatar 11:30pm coelacanth∅:

awww!
- 'had a few strange experiences too, though -the mind is a powerful thing...
Avatar 11:31pm Franco Twinkie:

The episode that really gave me the creeps was the one where William Shatner was obsessed with the fortune teller machine at a table in a cafe, that had the head of Satan on the appliance. Danny, they had these machines at The Pike in Long Beach - a sleazy seaside amusement park. Remember they story about my neighbor who saw The Flying Burrito Brothers in her high school gym? Well her younger brother broke one of those devil fortune teller machines by sticking a fork into it while their family was having dinner at The Pike.
Avatar 11:32pm Little Danny:

NGH! Dark welcome good man.

I would love a fog machine for everyday use
Avatar 11:33pm coelacanth∅:

i wonder if that means he killed satan or he'll be spending eternity with him...
Avatar 11:36pm Franco Twinkie:

I think he is a prison guard now, so I guess he is in Hell.
Avatar 11:42pm coelacanth∅:

another and maybe my favorite twilight zone episode is the dude loves this chinese restaurant and the fortune cookie's always true, or comes true.
'guy meets woman, takes her there, everything goes well, fortune cookies come and his says you are going to die. he freaks and gets inconsolably angry. this does not impress the lady who doesn't believe that the cookies never lie, so she leaves. he goes walking then decides to go back for another meal and see what the cookie will say. he can't seem to eat enough; orders item after item and still feels hungry. finally gives up and asks for the check (& fortune cookie)
fortune cookie says "you're dead".
Avatar 11:46pm coelacanth∅:

well,Danny someone needs to drop those disused vehicles into the ground.
anyway 'twas long ago. i left after 5 years, seeing that it was a dead-end job.
Avatar 11:51pm Franco Twinkie:

Great show Danny. See all you disembodied spirits on the other side.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm chresti:

Jeez, whatta song
Avatar 11:54pm coelacanth∅:

tchau Franco. i'll bring pizza.
Avatar 11:54pm Franco Twinkie:
