Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Linda Lee:

are we on some kinda wavelength, Mr. Stork? just now started a collection of love poems, each on a different perversion!
i guess we'll see! :-)
  12:11pm rw:

LL, Sounds like a fun project. How many perversions have you covered?

And good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Linda Lee:

only 5 ~ but i just started! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Linda Lee:

'40 love poems' - there being 39. the 40th perversion is the desire to write poetry when one cannot. all the poems are terrible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Jeff Golick:

@Stork! Thanks for your encouragement -- carry it on home! Perversely, that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Give Me No Slacks !

Great job, Jeff, and all whosail in you..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Linda Lee:

i'll let you know if i manage to finish it, dear! 41st perversion: an inability to carry concepts to term! :-D
  12:20pm John from Florham park:

@Wolfgang nice program
  12:20pm rw:

That's a perversion? Definitely applies here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Linda Lee:

indeed it is. especially if it costs money!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Linda Lee: i can't even tell you here what kind of lesspeeyun shenanigans i've been up to! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Linda Lee:

  12:26pm John from Florham park:

@Granny what does that they/them mean?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm fleep:

What is the gentleman in the image doing, exactly, and why must he be restrained?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Linda Lee:

scientifically devised 40 pound doobie. they're checking for pulse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm fleep:

ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Linda Lee:

eventually this became 'vaping'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cale should read all Horror.
Avatar 12:53pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Stork, Storklings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

John from Florham Park: @12:26— them are the pronouns i use. Gender neutral. The more accurate pronouns are e/em/eir, but that's advanced play for most folx. :)
  12:55pm John from Florham park:

@granny gotcha was just courious that’s all
Avatar 12:56pm coelacanth∅:

as most people don't know what the term "perversity" (or "perverted") means, who's defining it to be your name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm listener james from westwood:

Hooray for neo-pronouns and the singular/gender-neutral "they," sez this copy editor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Linda Lee:

i like they/them too. not a bridge too far.
  12:57pm John from Florham park:

@Granny thanks for your answer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Linda Lee:

hear! hear! www.redbubble.com...
Avatar 1:13pm Wolfgang:

Thanks for moving the old fundraising needle!! We're a little bit closer to the goal! Ginchy!!
Avatar 1:14pm coelacanth∅:

i now know i had a Laura Nyro deficiency
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm ParUbi:

It's an established use with a long history.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Linda Lee:

absolutely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Linda Lee:

i'm seeing that Laura Nyro piece is from 'New York Tendaberry'.
  1:25pm melinda:

Hi group!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Linda Lee:

don't worry about the comments board. :-) some djs don't even post one.
  1:28pm John from Florham park:

@Linda Glenn Jones never has a chat going
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Linda Lee:

hi melinda!
Avatar 1:28pm coelacanth∅:

hey, big dummy, want some razzles? they're gum!
-or they're candy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Linda Lee:

never ever. others post a board, but ignore us totally. gee, i remember when there warn't even a a website!
  1:31pm John from Florham park:

@linda you must go way back with this station
Avatar 1:31pm coelacanth∅:

Jonesy posts a comment board occasionally during marathon time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Linda Lee:

first picked it up on the radio in 1985! :-)
  1:31pm John from Florham park:

@and I guess this is why I never listen to Glenn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Linda Lee:

he does? i'm glad to hear that! the LBJ must love it.
  1:32pm John from Florham park:

@Linda me last year when I still lived in Florida
Avatar 1:33pm coelacanth∅:

i'm sure - but then it gets deleted after the show!
Avatar 1:33pm coelacanth∅:

(actually the last time may be a few years ago)
  1:34pm John from Florham park:

@coel wonder why jonsey does not use it all the time oh well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Linda Lee:

just doesn't like it, i guess!
  1:35pm melinda:

I like it when DJs participate in the comments but I get why some don’t much, seems like it could be very hard to do all things at once.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Linda Lee:

no doubt.
Avatar 1:36pm coelacanth∅:

some folks just love to do radio. Stan sets it up but doesn't participate. so he has no problem with it, just not what he wants to do. i completely respect that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Linda Lee:

absolutely!
  1:37pm John from Florham park:

@melinda I get why a lot of DJs do more then others, maybe they feel uncomfortable with it who knows
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Linda Lee:

thankfully it's not a requirement for a good radio show!
Avatar 1:38pm coelacanth∅:

...and i assume Jonesy's comment board would fill up with copious amounts of bullshit that Glenn doesn't need to see...
i wouldn't want to know about it either.
  1:38pm John from Florham park:

@linda o think your right about that
Avatar 1:39pm coelacanth∅:

(Glen, not Glenn. excuse me)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Linda Lee:

radio is sound! that's where the magic is. :-)
  1:40pm John from Florham park:

@Coel I think your right about that although I have seen some very good conversations on the board a lot of times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Linda Lee:

frankly i think anyone involved in public life ~& now that's just about everyone, isn't it ~ seems expected to be totally on call, on all platforms, totally available and totally personable at all times. my god! let's all take a breath shall we? :-D
Avatar 1:41pm coelacanth∅:

right Linda.
...i couldn't count the number of times wfmu, and especially Stan, might've saved my Life in the middle of the night.
- long before the comment board existed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Linda Lee:

you betcha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Doug Schulkind:

So so so so wonderful to have Stork back on the air in the WFMU family! Make him feel all the warm and fuzzies and give a hand to the station that makes it all happen!

  1:46pm John from Florham park:

@limda I don’t really expect the DJs too always post on the boards, there are times when a lot of the regular chatters want to take a break from the chat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Doug Schulkind:

@John from Florham park
On the Drummer Stream, I stress the importance of the Comments. The interactivity of the shows on the stream is a hallmark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Linda Lee:

easily done, too!
far as i know it's all still voluntary. ;-)
Avatar 1:47pm coelacanth∅:

John i mean Glen's show especially, and especially with X-Ray Burns -because of the nature of their banter; i think they'd get people stereotyping them and giving them shit; others misunderstanding them to agree with their own bigoted ways; others who'd mock on the musical selections (badfinger into Sinatra, etc...); still others telling them to play music intead of talking...i easily imagine a comment board shitshow.
...though i thought maybe he'd start doing it after X-Ray's passing, just for the company.
  1:49pm John from Florham park:

@Doug I guess this is why I am listening more to the internet only streams more freedom to not stay within the confines of the FCC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Linda Lee:

i wonder if a basic approach to the comments is generational?
  1:51pm John from Florham park:

@Coel me too but if jonsey does not want to do it then he has that right
@linda that could be it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Doug Schulkind:

The culture change at the mothership WFMU moves a little more slowly. Not too long ago, there were still some DJs who didn't even want to do playlist pages online. With the Drummer Stream being new (if almost 10 years old still counts as "new"), I have had the opportunity to put my stamp on things from the very beginning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Linda Lee:

i mean, everyone is totally different, obviously, but in terms of a basic approach to interactivity as a component of radio.. or entertainment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Linda Lee:

10 years old! what! already! where have i been? :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm fleep:

It's about comfort. Like, I've never called in to an FMU talk show (it would be high piteched squeaks and clicks) but here, I can organize and edit (like this paragraph, several times).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm fleep:

Apparently, one edit shy. "pitched"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Linda Lee:

i think i'd enjoy those squeaks and clicks, fleep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm listener james from westwood:

In the studio, Jonesy does radio and radio only. But he was an early pioneer in listener meetups. He finds ways to meet his people.
  2:01pm John from Florham park:

@Linda lee I have trout about calling into clays show but I won’t, don’t know how I would sound on the air and might embarrass myself
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Linda Lee:

why not call in sometime? Clay won't let you fail. :-)
  2:05pm John from Florham park:

@Linda something I have to really think about
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Linda Lee:

call the WABAM & see how you sound on air!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm fleep:

Yip yips!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Linda Lee:

who the heck are these yip yip guys anyway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm fleep:

Stan Freberg (the great) is one of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Linda Lee:

i've been listening to that radio spot for years now.. never knew!
Avatar 2:11pm coelacanth∅:

fleep maybe call in next time there's a dolphin guest in the studio so it could be translated.
Avatar 2:11pm northguineahills:

Joe McGasko uses the radio yip yips for his intro....
Avatar 2:12pm coelacanth∅:

(by the way you don't look like a Jeff to me, for some reason...)
Avatar 2:13pm coelacanth∅:

ngh and now 2 commenters use images from that skit as avatars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Linda Lee:

if it's the hindu deity, it's Shee-va. :-)
  2:14pm melinda:

I’ve left a brief message on the WABAM once, but I’m either not awake or still groggy when Clay is taking calls.
  2:15pm melinda:

Also I’m shy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Doug Schulkind:

@Linda Lee
The Drummer Stream was born in June 2010!
Avatar 2:15pm coelacanth∅:

Linda - www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Linda Lee:

ha! that's wild! not what i pictured at all! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Linda Lee:

so glad for the streams, Doug. i'm listening more to the streams now than the mother station. thank you!
  2:20pm melinda:

I lean heavily on the streams too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Doug Schulkind:

@Linda Lee
We all need about seven ears now to capture everything that delights us. WFMU's intention is to provide numerous options and let each individual find their bliss. My intention is to empower the Drummer Stream to maximize that bliss. If I do my job well, everyone will need Blistex®.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Linda Lee:

i think you're doing beautifully, Doug. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm fleep:

Stream Daddy approves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Doug Schulkind:

It is my desperate obsession to do so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Linda Lee:

obsession does seem a key ingredient for the good stuff! :-)
  2:23pm melinda:

@Linda haha, generation gap here! For me and other X’s the yip yips recall the Muppet aliens immediately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Linda Lee:

hahaha!! must be! i see something from 1950s grade B sci fi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Obsession is the primary attraction I see in good DJs. Take our dear Stork, for instance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Doug Schulkind:

[We crave your approval, Stream Daddy.]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm fleep:

coelacanth∅, I've been fleep online since 1988, the so called real name sounds alien to me when I hear it in this context. they are two different entities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Linda Lee:

sure! it shows in the flow. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Linda Lee:

Blossom Dearie!
  2:31pm John from Florham park:

@Doug like this morning I was listening to serious moonlight sonata with carol crow and she really put a great ahow on with all kinds of interviews and wow that took a lot of effort to do and I may not have the money right now to send this station something but I spread the gospel of WFMU to the unwashed masses so to speak
Avatar 2:31pm coelacanth∅:

i'm an "X", i guess, but i never saw the muppets.
listener "Cheri Pi",had or has a gif of that skit for an avatar. once when Joe McGasco's show was on i commented that when i heard his opening bit it reminded me of her avatar. i had no idea that the 2 were actually one and the same.
characteristically she ignored me.
  2:32pm melinda:

The Drummer stream has excellent shows, but another reason I began hanging out here is that the commenters are a smaller group and you can sort of get to know people and have more interesting discussions.
  2:33pm melinda:

@coel yeah, the generational labels are somewhat arbitrary
  2:34pm melinda:

Also interesting that you connected the avatar with the sounds, cool
Avatar 2:38pm coelacanth∅:

fleep i didn't use the internet 'till 2008; the fmu site and comments board, my only social media -'till c.2011, and sparingly (as i was listening via fm)
here and on youboob i have always used "coelacanth" though and i think you happened to be witness to that troll using this moniker, claiming to've used it first. that same or a different clown still pulls that now and then.
Avatar 2:40pm coelacanth∅:

(which is how i ended up with the ∅ symbol)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Doug Schulkind:

@John from Florham Park
I believe the embarrassment of riches flows in both directions. DJs on the streams and FMU pour their guts into doing great shows. In response, listeners' unwavering devotion, loyalty, faith and, yes, dollars during fundraising times, is almost incomprehensible. It is what allows us to be adventurous, unpredictable, and spontaneous. It's a love affair I have been happy to wallow in for 32 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

let's wallow!
Avatar 2:42pm Wolfgang:

This Doug guy is really OK, ya know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Doug Schulkind:

I don't mean to wallop my big bass drum in your parade, Stork. Yapping about FMU is my favorite indoor sport.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Linda Lee:

that's saying quite a bit, Doug! ;-)
Avatar 2:46pm coelacanth∅:

Stork have i told you that when i was around 9 i named a weimaraner puppy Wolfgang?
tell me that's not an honor!
  2:46pm John from Florham park:

@Doug the difference between this station and WBAI is egos have not gotten in the way of putting on great radio, and Ken knows what he is doing which with WBAI too many chiefs not enough Indians and you can see what happened to them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Linda Lee:

beautiful closers, Mr. Stork! fantastic. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Linda Lee:

thanks for a beautiful show!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm fleep:

Thanks, Wolfgang!
Avatar 3:01pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Stork take care y'all
Avatar 3:18pm Wolfgang:

Thanks all you beauties. You are the helium in my balloon, the carbon in my dioxide, and the water in my well. Can't wait to see you all down the Club next week, with our clocks all synched and junk.
Mwah mwah mwah, a thousand times MWAH!!!
