Listener comments!

  12:00am Zooropa:

I have never listened to this show but I hear its scary.
  12:02am Zooropa:

A kill shelter is where they kill abandoned and stay dogs and cats. Checks out.
Avatar 12:04am Keilidh:

thanks for tunin in! it is spooky indeed, at least i hope so!
  12:05am Zooropa:

I think I've seen you on the boards, so your're the DJ?
Avatar 12:07am Keilidh:

yes! that's me. I pop up in the comments sometimes
  12:09am Zooropa:

OK so this is an old show that came back from before I started listening. Makes sense. Welcome back. Just looked at your programs. I thought this was a new show, apologies. So far two for two bookmarked and I am trying to find the current track on itunes.
Avatar 12:10am Keilidh:

Thank you! Yes my show used to be called Beastin The Airwaves, I was there for almost ten years since 2008. Took a little break, came back as Hits From The Crypt! Enjoy the archives if you ever have a chance.
  12:12am Zooropa:

I will. I was a college DJ 20 years ago, and am now working on my masters, and just started DJing again after 20 years of practicing law. I am more scared than ever. Music changed so much since the 90s
  12:14am BH:

boring comment: I spent my evening following an election being held in Louisiana.. so congrats to all the people who went to election night parties and drank until they had to find a volunteer to drive them home
  12:14am Zooropa:

who won the election, run off?
  12:17am BH:

there'll a runoff, so they'll figure it out in November.
  12:18am Zooropa:

The two Republicans or one of the Republicans and the democrat?
  12:21am BH:

oh, the incumbent Dem Gov (Edwards) and a Republican (Rispone).
  12:21am Zooropa:

Glad you made it home alive. I spent many a night in New Orleans.
  12:22am BH:

I'm actually in Missouri. So I just looked at results on a computer. I'm sure the concept of a Saturday election would be neat occasionally
  12:23am Zooropa:

It's on purpose in Baton Rouge. Politics is LA's college football.
  12:25am BH:

yeah, I looked it up a few days ago, and reasoning is "let's vote on Saturdays so the rural folk can vote"... which I guess is also how we got Tuesday as en election day back when elections involved going to the county seat and getting voting for the candidate who bribed you the most
  12:26am BH:

I probably could have put an extra word or two in that last post.
  12:26am Zooropa:

OK so I know none of this stuff. This must really be a real hpllpween show or I am really out of touch with 2010's alternative, and listening to classic ALT.Rock
  12:27am Zooropa:

*halloween show

Avatar 12:29am Keilidh:

  12:29am Zooropa:

hey coel...give me the 4-11 on this show
Avatar 12:29am Keilidh:

@zooropa - always come to me when you wanna hear spooky new releases!!
  12:32am Zooropa:

I have a show to produce for Thursday and I've done 20 since I'm back, but I guess I could do a Hollows eve show to cover for my lack of awareness. Someone told me you played the new stuff. sort of goth trending which was what I preferred in my 20s
  12:33am Danne D:

Yay Keilidh :) So glad to see you at Stashu's big bash yesterday!
Avatar 12:34am Keilidh:

@zooropa - I play all kinds of new stuff, mix of the under and above ground. October is super spooky/goth/metal vibes but I usually do a variety (i do lean spooky though)!
Avatar 12:35am Keilidh:

@danne - YES. SO NICE to see you. And great to watch all the couples doin their best polka.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am coelacanth∅:

Zoo just listen
see what you think
i have my opinion but that shouldn't help you much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, all. This Horror Vacui is spooky because you can almost hear the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am Fox:

You are doing such great sets for the seeeaaaason!
  12:41am BH:

isn't Thousand something like "miles"?
  12:41am Danne D:

get it together AP!
Avatar 12:42am Roberto:

Mil ("meal").
  12:43am Zooropa:

what's the clicking?
  12:44am Franco Twinkie:

Hey you sassy little miss!
  12:45am Zooropa:

are we supposed to be scared for you or scared for us?
  12:45am BH:

oh yes, I was thinking of thousands/miles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Fox:

I looooove her. I drew her as Cruella D'evil for last year's Inktober.
Avatar 12:47am Keilidh:

never for me, i'm running this show!!
Avatar 12:47am Keilidh:

hey franco!!
Avatar 12:47am Keilidh:

eartha kitt is amazing and a witch of the best and highest caliburrrrrr
Avatar 12:48am Roberto:

Miles ("meal-aze") would mean thousands (plural).
  12:48am Zooropa:

eartha kitt is a legend here in the low country
  12:51am Franco Twinkie:

Shoot dope and rob a bank, blow the steeple of a church with an army tank....I wanna be evil!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Mr. Pumpy:

I love how evil this sword is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am coelacanth∅:

  12:52am Zooropa:

does the church have people in it?
  12:55am Franco Twinkie:

For crying out loud, Zoo! I'm not advocating anything, I'm just making a really stupid rhyme.
  12:58am Zooropa:

apologies Franco for trying to play along with your rhyme. I'm out ofr the night.
  12:59am ?:

...I was wondering about the succession of the aforementioned actions myself.
  12:59am Franco Twinkie:

No offence taken, Zoo. Party on!
  12:59am Zooropa:

great show Keilidh, I'll listen when the chat room isn't hostile
Avatar 1:00am Keilidh:

hostility here, all tricks or treats!
  1:00am Zooropa:

Avatar 1:01am Keilidh:

wow ok i meant NO hostility but whatever HANDS

Avatar 1:03am Franco Twinkie:

Hope I didn't shit in anyone's trick or treat bag.
Avatar 1:04am Keilidh:

@kev - woooo! i got some chill spook comin' up if you're fixin for a smoke/nap too
  1:05am Hospitality:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am coelacanth∅:

i can't believe i had to favorite a dance song
  1:12am Zooropa:

Keilidh: not you, but someone in here commented about shooting a church. Maybe you heard, but we had a little incident in my part of the country where a fellow named dylan shot up a church and killed a bunch of people. It was really scary. This Dylan posted things online saying he wanted to do evil things like that. That was the hostility I was referring to. So reading about someone wanting to blow up a church isn't something that we southerners look at at with nonchalance. And when Eartha Kitt sang she wanted to be evil, she wasn't talking or even joking about killing people. So sorry to be a party pooper. I'll go now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am coelacanth∅:

Franco's post, which was obviously a joke anyway, said nothing about killing people.
Avatar 1:15am Franco Twinkie:

Keilidh, Could you please post a photo of your mouth stuffed with french fries? It would make a great avatar! I think....maybe not. Never mind, I'll go to bed now.
  1:16am Zooropa:

They said the same thing about Dylan. It’s not something you joke about.
  1:16am Ike:

Appropriate book recommendation: just started “Gideon the Ninth” by Tamsyn Muir and it’s hilarious so far. It’s about interstellar goth swords(wo)men and necromancers insulting each other all day, etc.
Avatar 1:17am PsychopathJimFields:

Hey K!
It was good to see you last night :)
Avatar 1:18am Keilidh:

nice to see you too Jim!

and the rest of you, calm yourselves. it's the middle of the night. enjoy or don't!
Avatar 1:22am Keilidh:

@ike - i would def read that book!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am coelacanth∅:

i almost painted Roky for the art auction
for some reason i decided to go with someone still amongst us
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am coelacanth∅:

i've only seen a few horror movies.
28 days later and the shining, though i never thought of the shining as a horror movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am Fox:

I think the first half of Hellraiser II is my favorite horror movie.

I would add Bram Stoker's Dracula, Exorcist III, and Frankenhooker
Avatar 1:58am Keilidh:

it's a tough call! i feel like horror should be scary, idk how much psychological stuff and thriller scares me. but blood, dead lady in a bathtub, "redrum" and axe swinging - maybe horror!
Avatar 1:59am Keilidh:

ok YEAH bram stoker's dracula is a TOP FAVE... if only just bc of that pairing that I wish was real life
  2:00am jonny:

john giorno...a billion poems is not enough for everything you lived and loved...you'll always be a rock hard hero...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am coelacanth∅:

okay so shining is horror. i forgot about those scenes and was just focusing on the psychological part of it.
28 days later i liked because it's believable. easily possible.
(like the shining)
  2:08am jonny:

Coil did all the original hellraiser themes....but of course rejected...today's news is far more horrific than any movie...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am Fox:

Two nights ago I finally watched that He Never Died movie starring Henry Rollins. I liked it. The ending was a little flat, but it was weird and felt like a Vertigo comic. It was written and directed by the same dude, which always comes out cohesive.
Avatar 2:16am Keilidh:

@fox - I am still halfway into it on Netflix... my undying love for Uncle Henry couldn't stop me from getting bored but I'm dead set on finishing!
Avatar 2:22am Roberto:

Dang, maybe it's time to give that first Hole album another listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am Fox:

@Keilidh - it IS slow, but once the violence kicks in, it's pretty great.
  2:28am BH:

there's so many musical people who had their stuff written by somebody else that it seems a little too specific to single out Hole for criticism on that point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30am Ignatatus666:

Dig your show
Great playlist
My favorite horror movies
Evil Dead( the original)
Jason X
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1/2/3 and leatherfaface as well as the remake of part 1
And pretty much anything in Black and White
Brahms Stokers Dracula!!
  2:31am hevykevy:

this back announce is killing me bc my friend woke up and i turned it down to have a smoke chat and missed all that! okay so obvi going to hit this archive tomorrow mornings soundtrack
Avatar 2:32am Keilidh:

@bh - but i was just talking about hole albums! and the fact that Pretty On The Inside is superior to the other ones for many reasons
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Ignatatus666:

The Shining is Horror?
I can’t see that as horror
Avatar 2:33am Keilidh:

@ignatatus666 - hey thanks! great picks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am Ignatatus666:

13 ghosts was great
Avatar 2:36am Keilidh:

I feel like anything with waves of blood in it is probably horror! plus... Stephen King
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am Fox:

I mean, Stephen King is a horror writer, and The Shining is a movie all about going crazy to the point of trying to kill your family.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am Fox:

Keilidh - jinx, basically.
Avatar 2:38am Keilidh:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am Ignatatus666:

I don’t personally rate movies based on writers
As far as blood and definitely a great horror/thriller/psychological freak out was High Tension the original French release Haute Tension
They had to reduce the amount of blood for the American release
  2:41am Zooropa:

Is it safe to come back in here?
  2:43am BH:

yeah, I was more thinking about claims from other people about Cobain ghostwriting Hole albums like it's some sort of grave offense.

Also, on the Q of favorite horror movies, I had some possible answers until thinking "you know, that might just be an action/thriller and not a horror movie".. I mean, there wasn't enough death in They Live for it to be Horror.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45am Ignatatus666:

Although it’s not a horror movie it will numb you to any horror movies and it’s really freaked out
13 Tzameti
Another French film
Don’t watch the previews
Just watch that flick!!!
There is an American remake that’s is absolutely awful in comparison
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am Fox:

BH: Why are you considering horror only by death count? Why do you not think that They Live is horror? It totally is horror. It's the trifecta of Horror/Scifi/Action. There's Hammer Horror films with only one or two deaths in the whole thing, just poet shirts and fog, and it's still considered horror.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47am Fox:

Oh oh oh oh!

It's on Hulu. It's disturbing and beautifully shot. Just... so horrific and so well shot and it's own thing entirely.
Avatar 2:49am Keilidh:

yeah i think you have to consider the horror genre in terms of the subculture when you're classifying the movies sometimes... not just whether deaths or blood make it horror. though blood is preferable (to me).
  2:49am BH:

I wasn't being 100% serious in declaring that to be criteria.. but yeah, there's non-death ways to be horrifying
Avatar 2:50am Keilidh:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am Fox:

I also recommend this short from the 90's. It's slow, but.... wait for it. There is payoff.

Cutting Moments: vimeo.com...
  2:52am BH:

I guess it's like Die Hard being a considered Christmas movie. If you want something to be in a genre, then it's in the genre? Like, if people started saying The Terminator is a horror movie, maybe it'd catch on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54am Ignatatus666:

Like when classic rock stations play new releases of bands like U2
  2:58am blair:

thanks for keeping me spooked behind the wheel of this 18 wheeler. the turnpike is extra creepy tonight!!!
  2:59am Zooropa:

It was fun until it wasn’t. But I came back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Keilidh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00am diciassette:

Ahoy and thanks and good night!
