Listener comments!

Hi ho. As I write this, all four streams are live. Neat!
  3:12pm AL on Long Island:

Phoebe Snow was a named passenger train which was once operated by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&W) and, after a brief hiatus, the Erie Lackawanna Railway (EL). First service: Nov. 15, 1949. Last service: Nov. 27, 1966. It ran from Hoboken to Buffalo.
  3:12pm AL on Long Island:

RIP Kim Shattuck, and also Ginger Baker.
  3:14pm Tyler H:

Initially, Phoebe Snow was a (fictional) representative of the Lackawanna RR (which only merged with the Erie RR near the end of its existance). The Lackawanna burned only anthracite coal which meant no cinders or soot (so Phoebe could wear her white clothes).

hey Ken Thanks for replying to my post earlier. i disappeared for a while.
...rest in peace, the great Ginger Baker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm coelacanth∅:

i don't know why y'all are talking about Phoebe Snow but it's interesting
  3:17pm Tyler H:

Because of the singer with the same name
  3:18pm Tyler H:

Says Phoebe Snow
about to go
upon a trip to Buffalo
"My gown stays white
from morn till night
Upon the Road of Anthracite"

(@3.16) - i'm just glad it's not because she's died again.

  3:56pm johnzo:

  3:58pm johnzo:

  3:58pm johnzo:

*ish
  3:59pm AL on Long Island:

"Mount" Dora is on a plateau, 184 feet above sea level. But no mountains in Fla.
  4:00pm johnzo:

i demand that they change the name to plateau dora!

playlist wasteland
  4:35pm AL on Long Island:

The beating of Jimmie Rodgers in 1967 MAY or MAY NOT have been arranged by Roulette Records head Morris Levy, who was connected to the mob. Fellow Roulette artist Tommy James wrote in his autobiography that it was.
Avatar 4:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...but it could have been. & he was beaten & badly & didn't speak about it...
  4:41pm AL on Long Island:

Rodgers is still alive, but the human brain has a way of blocking out trauma. He may not remember it. Or, he stayed quiet out of fear...
  4:42pm matty from brooklyn:

Why is it every oldies station kind of sucks?
Have you never heard of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators? Only the Doors? You can only play two Stones songs?
Avatar 4:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Love the doors.
...The problem is Commercial Radio & reductive playlists.
Avatar 4:45pm Sid:

Gotta go find oldies streams. Commercial radio is only for the lowest common denominator, which we are clearly not.
Avatar 4:46pm Sid:

Newark is pronounced "Nork?" Hailing from Westchester originally, I did not know that.
Avatar 4:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- superb vintage Studio Pop...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm G:

@matty from brooklyn: I've heard it called the 600-Song [total station] Playlist.

I knew someone a few years back who did focus grouping for a commercial station. Here's what they did: Played focus group members literally a 10 second snippet of a song and asked them if that song was playing, would they be more likely to stay on the station or look for something else.

They get to a few hundred focus-grouped songs they hope their demo won't switch the station on.
  4:50pm nina:

who was that jet black hair song by?
Avatar 4:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Focus Groups
...read: Lowest Common Denominator...
Avatar 4:54pm Sid:

nina - playlist will be posted by 8 tonight. He'll also back-announce it in a few minutes.
Avatar 4:57pm Sid:

Yeah, commercial music stations "test" their recurrents by playing hooks to recruited typical listeners. Any song that gets too many negatives doesn't get played. Lowest Common Denominator.

Sugerloaf Mountain is in Florida
