Avatar 6:02pm geezerette:

Lost Vague-US!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Linda Lee:

'77 was actually my last trip to Las Vegas! we were there when Elvis died.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Totie Fields!!!! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Bloody Hell - that's a line up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Linda Lee:

absolutely amazing.
Avatar 6:04pm geezerette:

& don't call me "Bugsy" !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That must have cost a small fortune
Avatar 6:05pm Don-O:

1977 was the year I discovered Vegas. too. It suddenly replaced Disneyland in my hyperactive mind instantly!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Did someone say Foster Brooks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Linda Lee:

his voice made me nauseated. the burping!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm on the front page of Mod Cinema right now ... Oh. My. God. I'm in heaven :-)
Avatar 6:06pm geezerette:

(Hic!)
Avatar 6:06pm Don-O:

BURRRRRRRRRP...Yup!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Linda Lee:

totally grotesque :-D
Mod Cinema?
Avatar 6:07pm geezerette:

Heh heh...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Linda Lee:

John Davidson!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Wow, the ModCinema site is amazing
Avatar 6:07pm Don-O:

For those looking for that DVD: www.modcinema.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

I think my mom liked John Davidson
Avatar 6:08pm Don-O:

ModCinema is indeed amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Linda Lee:

John Davidson recorded a depressive 'Georgy Girl'. you'd swear she died!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I need a copy of everything on that site. Immediately.
Avatar 6:09pm geezerette:

Wow, great link!

As a singer JD had great dimples.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Jon Davidson was on *everything* back then. I think my mum had a bit of a crush, too. Although her BIG crush was Robert Foxworth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Rich in Washington:

I love your Georgy Girl posts, LL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

I can see I'm going to be ordering a few things :)
Avatar 6:10pm Don-O:

DJGG: Yup. serious Lottery money can be blown in that site.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Linda Lee:

yes, fabulous site!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Linda Lee:

thank you Rich! i couldn't stop. :-D
Avatar 6:11pm geezerette:

I love how utterly insincere they all are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

She also liked ... oh what was his name? married to Mary Ann Mobley? Miss America? The hell was his name?? He did a TV commercial and my mum would go very unnecessary over it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There were some excellent GG records that you posted :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Linda Lee:

i merely scratched the surface there :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Linda Lee:

was it Gary Collins?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Rich in Washington:

I think around '77 was the twilight of the network TV variety special. I like to think that The Star Wars Holiday Special drove a stake through its heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I need this. modcinema.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yes!!! Gary Collins!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Linda Lee:

wow. ColorSpace looks marvelous!
Avatar 6:14pm Don-O:

Wow, Wall Of Taped Audience Sound!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Doesn't it, tho? I could live in that DVD :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Linda Lee:

really wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

CHARO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

They should have got her in to play Sofia Vergara's mother on "Modern family" :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Linda Lee:

fabulous!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Linda Lee:

is she still working?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think so. She was on RuPaul's Drag race as a judge a few years ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

She's either 68 or 78 depending on which birth certificate you believe ;-)
Avatar 6:18pm Don-O:

Another of Vegas 'joy' can found here. This is also a doozy, only hosted by Bob Hope. www.modcinema.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

This is an amazing show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I absolutely adored Totie Fields <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Linda Lee:

she was on television in the 60s *continually*!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

She was - and so much fun :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Although ... so was Rip taylor. I miss him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Rich in Washington:

This is amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

And I am very excited that ModCinema has the TV movie "That Certain Summer". Totally going to order that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Linda Lee:

oh my gosh. Rip Taylor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Wait ... he's still alive?? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Isn't Rip Taylor still with us?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Is it just me or does Rip Taylor sound like Jo-Ann Worley when he sings??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Linda Lee:

sure seems that way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

I think I saw him on some Adult Swim show not too long ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Rich in Washington:

Rip's still alive! He's one of those celebs I always think has passed on but he hasn't yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Rich in Washington:

Have you ever SEEN Jo-Ann Worley and Rip Taylor on TV together, GeorgyGirl? You may be onto something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think you may have something there ... ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have heard a long-held rumour that Mike Nesmith had a brief affair with Jo-Ann Worley and he wrote "Joanne" for her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Rich in Washington:

This is SO craptacular! Now I wanna buy this.
Avatar 6:26pm geezerette:

Linda@6:22, when gay was "camp" and most of America really didn't "get" it!! Incredible.
Avatar 6:29pm Don-O:

BTW: visually the shirt cuffs on Docs outfit will give you a black eye!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Linda Lee:

camp entertainment was fine ~ but ahomosexuality in practice was still a certified mental illness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Rich in Washington:

I should play some Doc Severinson tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Linda Lee:

i still can't figure out middle america & the gay..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Linda Lee:

Lola Falana! she was very cute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was just reading about Alan Sues and how terrified he was of being outed :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Linda Lee:

isn't that strange! gay was his whole shtick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ah! Lola Falana! Every time my friend Diane and I see a certain kind of pant suit, we yell "Lola Falana!" ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Linda Lee:

one of those women of the time that gave me certain feelings i couldn't describe.. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Linda Lee:

it's very, very weird to this day, mainstream american culture & the gay. performance is fine. entertainment is fine ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm just looking her up now - wow! She's 77!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep - that whole "Oh - it's just an act"
Avatar 6:35pm Don-O:

BTW: visually, Rodney is performing in the middle of a full suna-tub.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Rich in Washington:

Watertown reference.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Linda Lee:

right. just an act..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Otis Fodder:

Missed the first few acts, but just landed on the strip. Filled with Poutine and whiskey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Linda Lee:

that's perfect, Otis! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Linda Lee:

oh my GOSH! Anthony Newley!
Avatar 6:38pm Don-O:

JUST in time for.........
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This show is magnificent :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Linda Lee:

one of the Impressionists' favorites! impressionism was very big. remember? Frank Gorshin, Rich Little,..
Avatar 6:38pm geezerette:

Yeah, it's really weird.
All the innuendo is based on fear or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Is it possible for me to clicky star this about a million times?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Linda Lee:

i don't understand it, really, geezerette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

God, Rich Little!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Dear old Tony Newley :-) Good Bowie impersonation there ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Rich in Washington:

HA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Linda Lee:

impressionists creeped me out a bit. the way they'd turn away from the audience to change faces.. then turn again. especially Frank Gorshin! he was really creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Linda Lee:

haha! it's true! Bowie did Anthony Newley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Rich in Washington:

This is insane! I would've hated this back in the day but now I really, REALLY want to watch this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Frank Gorshin was just weird. I loved "Batman" but hated The Riddler. Just too creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Please please please put some video clips of this on the Facebook group ... please please please.
Avatar 6:42pm Mr Fab:

This has all gone beyond kitsch, and into the surreal. It's indistinguishable from an SCTV sketch.
Avatar 6:43pm geezerette:

And this was considered sophisticated adult entertainment by most the country.
Last gasp of vaudeville / music hall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Otis Fodder:

Sorry, whew, got caught up there for a minute, mesmorized by Newley's eyebrows. All good now, composure intact. Only threw one pair of shorts onstage. Tom Jones would have had 2 pairs thrown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Linda Lee:

it's like bad coke, really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Bad coke - which I suspect many of the performers had ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Rich in Washington:

'77 Las Vegas still had that sleazy side to it - a far cry from the modern tourist family friendly Vegas.
Avatar 6:44pm Don-O:

Here's the DVD! modcinema.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Linda Lee:

hmmmm... coke might have been a bit counterculture. speed, though! :-D
Avatar 6:46pm Don-O:

Here's the OTHER incredible Vegas DVD ModCinema has: modcinema.com...
Avatar 6:46pm Mr Fab:

A Vegas barbeque at Wayne Newton's place, a ha ha ha! Gawd, this is hysterical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Linda Lee:

i liked the seedy aspect, myself. something beautiful about all that fading glitter in the middle of nowhere at all..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've often thought, while watching "Mad Men", given the sheer volume of vintage clothes and furniture on the set, how much it must have *reeked* of old cigarettes and booze in the grains of wood and fabric. there's no Febreze on earth strong enough to get rid of decades of nicotine and whisky. Las Vega s must have smelled like an ashtray back then. lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Linda Lee:

my mother thought Wayne Newton was a dyke.
Avatar 6:47pm Mr Fab:

PLEASE tell me there was a soundtrack album for this.
Avatar 6:48pm geezerette:

Haha, Linda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Linda Lee:

the interiors smelled for sure.
were those clothes all original?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Rich in Washington:

I used to think Wayne Newton songs were sung by a woman, like Danke Schoen.
Avatar 6:48pm Don-O:

I hope that OST is in stereo!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Linda Lee:

if you see his picture, he does look like a cute butch lesbian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There *is* something faintly absurd about Vegas - in the most fabulous way - where someone decided to build nightclubs and casinos and theatres in the middle of sand. "You know what this place needs? Showgirls!" :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Rich in Washington:

Maybe we'll find out that Wayne was a drag king all along. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Rich in Washington:

That's some really tightly-wound plastic surgery going on there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Linda Lee:

my mom also thought Mae West was a transvestite.
she'd be vindicated, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

A large percentage of the clothes were vintage and then tailored/altered to fit. :-)
Avatar 6:50pm geezerette:

I've been multitasking but this has been fabulous!!!
Jack Jones was married to Ann Margaret, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Otis Fodder:

I would like to order the deluxe vinyl box edition of this please, the 70s readers digest box version in colorful red, matching the color of the drapes and carpet. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Actually ... this is 77 Las Vegas ... where IS Ann-Margret???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Linda Lee:

Vegas is *highly* absurd, GG.
it was magically absurd in '77 for sure ~ with those late 50s aesthetics!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Rich in Washington:

Was this on a network? The DVD hype says it was on KBTV in Denver, but I wonder if that's just where the recording was made.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have a Reader's Digest Herb Alpert & Friends box set which is SCREAMING orange. I love it :-)
Avatar 6:52pm Don-O:

Plastic surgery is made for this city. Ever seen the recent photos of Wayne, Sigfreid and Roy? Yup.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Linda Lee:

my gosh, are they still with us?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Which one was mauled by the tiger? He can't be alive still surely??
Avatar 6:53pm geezerette:

Poor Sammy Davis. He was bigger than Vegas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Linda Lee:

what a strange little segment..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Sammy was bigger than the universe - he was *everything* <3
Avatar 6:54pm Don-O:

This show was on ABC network. The station as an affiliated with the network. The DVD also has commercial both nation and local.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Linda Lee:

it was Roy who was mauled. that ended his career.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Rich in Washington:

Ah. It seems very ABC.
Avatar 6:55pm geezerette:

Hilarious vulgarity. POTUS should be an MC in a seedy Vegas lounge.
Avatar 6:55pm Don-O:

There's a religious segment hosted by Dionne Warwick. It doesn't fit, but then it does.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Linda Lee:

he's been a reality tv star. not too much different.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks for a splendid show, Don-O.
I'll be slingin' records and such over here right after this show:
wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Otis Fodder:

Gonna step out and get a drink at the bar and have a smoke before the next act with the Living Lung top of the hour. See you all out there or back in here. Save my booth seat, thanks Don-O!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

No! Don't go!!! More! Encore! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Linda Lee:

well, sure it fits, Don-O! what a goddamn weird culture.
Avatar 6:58pm geezerette:

Don-O, a total blast!
Avatar 6:58pm Don-O:

Let 'em rip, Rich!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Linda Lee:

thanks, Don-O! amazing show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That was fantastic :-)
Avatar 6:59pm Don-O:

Thanks for putting up with this crap, folks!!
Avatar 7:00pm geezerette:

Linda,@6:58, is it ever!
