  10:04pm Tom in Los Angeles:

fav part of Sunday
go Jeff go
  10:05pm Carmichael:

Looks like we’re gonna nod and smile tonight, perhaps with Chinese eyes.
  10:05pm Chris Wardell:

What’s up, Jeff? Sounding good. R.I.P. Hunter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm chresti:

Heh Carmichael
Avatar 10:06pm Jeff Conklin:

Evening, all.
  10:06pm Carmichael:

Pardon the racist comment. I got it from Pete Townshend, in my defense.
Avatar 10:06pm Jeff Conklin:

Deadhaters should tune out right now.

Woodsist was awesome, great vibe. Wet Tuna are the best band on the planet
  10:08pm The Butterman:

Awwww Hunter! I knew you’d open with a tribute to our man. Thanks Jeff
  10:09pm Woodland Will:

Hey Jeff, looking forward to an evening of Hunter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm chresti:

RIP Hunter. I was unawares, I really am about to lay down and this playlist works
  10:11pm Jeff Conklin:

All
Hunter all night.
Avatar 10:12pm geezerette:

Sometimes I love noodles. Tonight, f'r-instance.
Avatar 10:15pm Jeff Conklin:

I don't think this is noodling, this is dancing on the edge of the universe
  10:15pm The Butterman:

I saw Hunter at Irving Plaza and Patti Smith joined him and hocked a lougie right on stage. I was outraged at the time. Maybe it was ‘97 ish
Avatar 10:16pm Jeff Conklin:

Wow, butterman. How was the show otherwise
Avatar 10:16pm jt:

I only smoke weed once a year.. was thinking this might be a good night to 'light up' .. then Dark Star came on the radio and I feel quite high enough!
Avatar 10:16pm Jeff Conklin:

Also, all should feel free to leave comments about Hunter's impact on your life, experiences seeing him, etc..
  10:19pm tfunk:

Yes, Jeff
  10:20pm The Butterman:

Jeff, otherwise the show was an epic, special, rare treat. To see an artist who had such a remarkable relationship with the Jerry was a once in a lifetime experience for me.
  10:20pm tfunk:

noodling is Phil ‘n Friends starting a show with a mindless jam > Blues For Allah. It’s closer to soundcheck than anything else
Avatar 10:24pm geezerette:

All I know is that I love his lyrics, and I have a great affection for the more positive aspects of that era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Alex of Chicago:

sounds good from here
Avatar 10:25pm Jeff Conklin:

right on geezerette
Avatar 10:26pm geezerette:

:)
  10:26pm Chris Wardell:

Hunter’s tunes mean the world to me.?Especialky Terrapin Station. “His Job Is To Shed Light/Not To Master” Are you kidding? What a song. This past summer, my wife and I saw Dead and Co (save your Dead and Slow/Dead and Bro comments), and I was really hoping to hear Terrapin. My wife was pregnant with our now one month old son, so she said, “rub my belly for good luck!” Sure enough, first set, first song, Terrapin Station. You can’t make this stuff up.
  10:27pm Jeff Conklin:

That’s beautiful, Chris
Avatar 10:27pm geezerette:

Chris, congratulations!
  10:29pm wes b:

All eyes on Hunter!
  10:29pm Chris Wardell:

Thanks, Jeff. Thanks, Geezerette. I play the Dead for my son almost daily, along with a healthy dose of Phish.
  10:30pm JP:

just tuning in, thanks for this Jeff
  10:31pm The Butterman:

Chris, I musta sung Terrapin hundreds of times to my son as a baby/toddler and beyond as he fell asleep.
Avatar 10:31pm Jeff Conklin:

Well, felt like this needed to be done for RH and also for those whove been missing the Dead sets due to the more streamlined hours...
  10:32pm The Butterman:

Allmans sitting in.
  10:33pm Jeff Conklin:

Later on, Allmans join in, not here
  10:33pm tfunk:

Billy sounds supple in this Eyes
  10:35pm phat:

Holy crap this Eyes of the World kills!
  10:35pm Deyjawa:

the scope of these lyrics... almost an existential anthem. so bold, and powerful, yet still humble in a way. showcases the confidence he had as a writer
Avatar 10:36pm Jeff Conklin:

well said, deyjawa

@phat: ah yeah one of the best!
  10:36pm MONEYBAG$:

you can't lose with '73 dead
  10:40pm The Butterman:

I love a Jerry band show when Hunter joins him for a couple of songs, Promentory Rider, where Jerry dies sweet and fun background vocals. 1980 maybe.
  10:40pm Carmichael:

Box of Rain is my Hunter song.
  10:41pm tfunk:

Butterman, yeah I think that’s 02/20/80 Keane College. Very good show
  10:41pm phat:

I should write an essay, "how I learned to stop worrying and love the Dead. "
  10:42pm Woodland Will:

Wake up to find out you are the Eyes of the world could have been the only lyrics to the song and it would still be genius! And man, 73 dead is absolute nectar and it was the year hunter wrote ‘stella blue’
  10:42pm wes b:

Straight to the heart of it here.
Avatar 10:42pm Jeff Conklin:

@phat: would read
Avatar 10:43pm J Wede:

Tuning in from Alaska - Love this -He's gone
  10:43pm Woodland Will:

I didnt realize until recently that this song was originally about Mickey’s dad’s shenanigans, I figured it was about one of their wild friends who had died
  10:46pm The Butterman:

Kean College, just a couple of miles from my house. Closest Jerry ever played to my house except for 93 Providence when I was in college.
Avatar 10:46pm Jeff Conklin:

Alaska! Whereabouts?
  10:47pm Deyjawa:

73 dead was them at their most agile. bill by himself, could turn on a dime!
Avatar 10:47pm Jeff Conklin:

@woodland: its about who/what you want it to be, right?
Avatar 10:49pm J Wede:

In Juneau - been fortunate enough to catch northern lights for the first time
Avatar 10:49pm Jeff Conklin:

Amazing. Spent a summer in Anchorage, been dying to get back ever since..
Avatar 10:52pm J Wede:

That's rad - as you know, unlike anywhere else - nice cool air with fall colors coming in - sublime to say the least. Paired great with the '73 gems.
  10:53pm old ERIC thee hat:

Did someone just accidentally bump into the aural exciter there?
  10:54pm tfunk:

Keith sounds great
  10:54pm d1st:

digging the show so far...that was one of the more aggressive Dark Stars I've ever heard.
  10:54pm tfunk:

Nassau had an incredible amount of good shows
  10:55pm old ERIC thee hat:

@J Wede, when I saw the northern lights for the first time driving through the Yukon, it seemed like they should be deafeningly loud.
  10:56pm phat:

you'd be central to it, JC.
  10:57pm Cavalier Record Store:

The Environments record series has some great cricket and cicadas
  11:05pm Dean:

I've been reading an important account of the development of English Romantic poetic theory and practice, M.H. Abrams' The Mirror and the Lamp. You're touching on themes Abrams emphasizes, which leads me to recognize an essential component of Romanticism on the work of the Dead.
  11:06pm Dean:

^in the work

Speaking of radio shows, KPFK's Thursday Lunch was my regular fix back in the...'80s? '90s? Whenever, it was a terrific program.
  11:07pm Dean:

(Not counting the fact, which I've mentioned several times on WFMU comment boards, that I attended every Grateful Dead show ever.)
Avatar 11:10pm J Wede:

old ERIC thee hat - I totally know what you mean - that's rad
  11:15pm Dan b moon:

The way that Robert Hunter integrated botanical and natural mystical references into these songs is so infinitely inspiring. Such a great balance of joy, spirituality, blessing searching seeking and never afraid to dig deep even if it’s not always typically pretty. His lyricism songs and collaborations have brought tears of wonder to my eyes countless times. We are all so lucky to have been able to live in this world with such a brilliant generous human.
  11:16pm Dan b moon:

Jeez this version of st Steven is to die for. Wtf. This is gorgeous.
Avatar 11:17pm Jeff Conklin:

Highly recommend this record: dgans.bandcamp.com...
Avatar 11:17pm Jeff Conklin:

and very well said, Dan B Moon
  11:23pm opurt:

Good evening all. Just joining in now on the west coast. Very happy that you were able to experience Woodsist on the east coast. We were fortunate to be able to attend many years in Big Sur.
  11:25pm wes b:

Right on Dan!
Avatar 11:25pm Jeff Conklin:

@opurt: Yeah, it wasnt Big Sur but the Catskills are gorgeous in their own way
Avatar 11:25pm Jeff Conklin:

Children's Lament sounds made for Village of Spaces to cover....
  11:27pm wes b:

They played Neal Casal’s acoustic version of this at his memorial show Wednesday in Port Chester. It’s pretty stunning.
Avatar 11:28pm geezerette:

Dean@ 11:15 : Beatifully put.
Avatar 11:29pm J Wede:

great one prana crafter
  11:30pm Bob:

Loved Jerry...his telethons were epic...
Avatar 11:34pm Jeff Conklin:

Wanna take that comment, work on it a bit and come on back with something else?
Avatar 11:36pm geezerette:

Heh!
  11:39pm ?:

Didn't think this could get any better and then you go and spin some Smither. Thanks for such a wonderful tribute, Jeff.
  11:40pm hevykevy:

love this set defintely saving it on the app so i can listen in no reception zones. tuning in from north carolina played the beginning of your set on our speakers as i closed the general store
  11:40pm Brent:

That was me [finger pointing up emoji]
Avatar 11:41pm geezerette:

(Jeff, that Heh was for you, just to be clear.)
  11:42pm opurt:

Woodsist in the Catskills does sound perfect. If they do not return to the west coast next year, I may have to make that trip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Booz:

Itasca's so rich & fine
Avatar 11:48pm geezerette:
