I am a mod too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Otis Fodder:

A bus, some birds, and a bag of bagels. Ready to shuffle past the skiffle to the ocean front where the cool kids gather.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Greg and Otis! Hello hello :-)
Avatar 4:02pm spacebrother:

No spitting!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Linda Lee:

ooh! dynamite opener!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello lovely! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Linda Lee:

feeling ok?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The legendary Barbara Moore on vocals :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Painkiller has fully kicked in and I feel human again :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Linda Lee:

so glad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Otis Fodder:

While I don't use crikey while strolling the city... I'll use it for the Mod show... "Crikey! Georgy goes Mod!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

A million years ago when Britain was cool ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Linda Lee:

Brighton still seems pretty cool to me! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-)
Avatar 4:06pm spacebrother:

I took the 5:15 to Brighton once.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I see what you did there ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Linda Lee:

i was *just* looking for Quadrophenia last night! too much.
Avatar 4:08pm spacebrother:

Get one! I have a 1978 Vespa P200E.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Linda Lee:

by all means, get a scooter! just be mindful! it's lovely riding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Otis Fodder:

I should get a Big Wheel and trick it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Linda Lee:

hahaha!!! yes you should.
Avatar 4:09pm spacebrother:

In Los Angeles, the scooter makes a lot of difference getting through trafic and especially parking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have fantasies of zipping up to London for an afternoon coffee at bar Italia ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Linda Lee:

oh my!!!! yes, you must.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

If I want to go anywhere now I have to go to the train station, queue up, get a ticket, wait for a train, travel there ... blah blah blah ...Sometimes it's too much of a palaver.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

But if I had a scooter ..... ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Linda Lee:

same in nyc, spacebrother!
though for godsake lock it up properly when you're done..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Otis Fodder:

I really should. It would fit my style. Put some sick stickers on it like record labels and shops and maybe Bob and Eris' apple. Install some lights on it too, like a scooter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You're all swaying me over the 50/50 line .. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Linda Lee:

try it out & see how you like it. try before you buy!
Avatar 4:13pm Mr Fab:

Hey all mod cons! A mod Big Wheel sounds hilarious. But lowrider bicycles have been an LA thing for a while, so why not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's a bike school here that does an afternoon trial on scooters. I might treat myself :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Otis Fodder:

I can corner the Big Wheel market. I'm sure I could find a vintage 70s one on eBay beat up and go on a restoration project. Put a basket on it and roll out to the farmer's market. It's like a stepping stone to a scooter, like buying Stanton turntables before Technics 1200s. Ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Linda Lee:

i encourage both my Sheena friends to go for it. life's too short! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You've all persuaded me to go for the trial weekend :-)
I mean ... I can't really do a show like the Flange and not at least try a scooter really ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Linda Lee:

the 'leather boys' film made me wonder: why did one group choose choppers & the other choose scooters?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Scooters are clean and tidy - choppers greasy. So clean and tidy mods chose scooters and bikers went for choppers :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Linda Lee:

fabulous, GG! do it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Otis Fodder:

Go for it Georgy, fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Linda Lee:

that simple then! style.
Avatar 4:18pm spacebrother:

I went mod for many reasons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Linda Lee:

why did you go Mod, Greg?
Avatar 4:20pm Martinibomb:

I always wanted a scooter I’ll be jealous if you get one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Otis Fodder:

Don't know, but that version of Hush was killer, first time hearing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's good, isn't it? I think I prefer it to the Deep Purple one :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Otis Fodder:

I do, but I have a soft soft for the super groovy.
Avatar 4:22pm spacebrother:

@Linda - I was depressed, I was a teenager, I liked the Who, I liked the first and 2nd wave mod music - i.e. Brit invasion and ska. And there was a scene in Los Angeles at the time.
Avatar 4:22pm spacebrother:

radiomisterioso.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

And to be fair, Mod style is FABULOUS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Otis Fodder:

...and the fashion as well, for all..
Avatar 4:23pm spacebrother:

That's the scooter I have now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh my God that Vespa is GORGEOUS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Linda Lee:

beautiful.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Otis Fodder:

Spacebrother's vespa, color: extraterrestrial green,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Linda Lee:

so then you had very young people grabbing the cultural bull by the horns & bringing in the Mod 60s! of course!
so fascinating.
Avatar 4:26pm spacebrother:

whoops

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have a massive book called The Influential Factor which is about a million pages. I'm currently reading that and it's fantastically comprehensive about Mod culture. Really excellent book.
Avatar 4:26pm spacebrother:

@ Otis :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I am now officially drooling. :-)
Avatar 4:27pm spacebrother:

@ GG - I'll have to check that book out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Linda Lee:

sounds amazing!
i love a big, fat book on culture. you know they're not cheating. :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

www.amazon.com...
Avatar 4:30pm spacebrother:

@GG - Just ordered the book. Thanks for the heads-up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Linda Lee:

fabulous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Part book, part door stop - bargain ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You;re very welcome :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You want fat guitars? Have some fat guitars :-)
Avatar 4:34pm spacebrother:

This track is so goddamn MOD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Linda Lee:

i hear the Yoo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's truly fabulous :-)
Avatar 4:34pm spacebrother:

Straight lineage to The Jam.
Avatar 4:35pm spacebrother:

Sounds like it to me, anyway. Wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep - I can hear that :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've always thought that the Buzzcocks had a Mod sensibility about them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Linda Lee:

definitely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Linda Lee:

this is 'Oo though
Avatar 4:37pm spacebrother:

@ GG - Definitely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My mum said she didn't see a banana until 1957 because they simply couldn't import such things because of rationing and the like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Linda Lee:

i'm watching a lot of british new wave this week & this is definitely true in the films! young people questioning what they're given.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Particularly that whole class divide.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Linda Lee:

oh yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I mean - my family were definitely working class, and I was the first to go to university, which would have been unthinkable for my nan's generation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Linda Lee:

wow. right!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Linda Lee:

were you pressured to go, GG?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My nan was in service, as was my great-nan. Proper Downton Abbey stuff! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

No, no - I wanted to go :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Linda Lee:

brava! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My nan started off as a scullery maid and worked her way up to lady's maid and my great nan was a cook :-)
Avatar 4:45pm Martinibomb:

The cook seems like a good job for back then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Linda Lee:

did your nan see you go off to university?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

No - God no. Women got married and had kids. Nothing else. I don't even think it would have crossed her mid to be honest. "Not for the likes of us" - that sort of thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think cook and butler were pretty much the cornerstone of the household - you were set up for life really ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Linda Lee:

i'm sorry, i wasn't clear there. i meant to ask if she lived to see you go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

She passed away about three moths before I went to Uni :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Moths????? lol!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Linda Lee:

ah. that's too bad. :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Linda Lee:

got it. 3 moons!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

She was immensely proud that I went to college tho :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Linda Lee:

sure! so glad. :-)
Avatar 4:51pm spacebrother:

I'M proud of you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you - that's such a lovely thing to say :-)
Avatar 4:54pm Martinibomb:

I always wanted to go to college but its to expensive here. I graduated from the library!
Avatar 4:55pm spacebrother:

I had a Union Jack blazer that was tailor-made for me in Carnaby St. in 1982. It was stolen the first time I wore it out to a club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was ridiculously lucky to be around when we still had grants. I feel sorry for kids nowadays who have to take out outrageous student loans. :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi just came back from a moderate evening walk to the dike and back. Staying up for another bit, listening. :-)
Avatar 4:56pm spacebrother:

It was actually made out of flags i bought with the help of a mod dude who took me around to a shop where they were sold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh no!!!! How awful!!!! I bet that looked wonderful tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Jan! :-)
Avatar 4:56pm spacebrother:

Hey Jan! Thanks again for all the fill-ins for lazy me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Linda Lee:

no shortage of scumbags here, i'd say.
Avatar 4:57pm spacebrother:

I think I have one pic of me wearing it with the tailor who made it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Carnaby Street was still fabulous in the 80s as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Rich in Washington:

Listening but still frantically cleaning. Company coming this weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Greg! NP, I like doing fill-ins. I like making radio :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Seriously, if you want to come over and clean mine you're more than welcome ;-)
Avatar 4:59pm spacebrother:

This ringy guitar is very Mod and wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Linda Lee:

*really* hearing the Oo in this one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Rich in Washington:

Also caught in the rain on my daily walk. Stopped by the neighbors to buy some eggs and when home realized that I had Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley hair while I was talking to them. Oy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Rich in Washington:

Just now finished the hoovering, or, as I call it in my house, the hoovering.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

LOL!!! Squiggy hair! Fabulous :-)
Avatar 5:01pm spacebrother:

@ Rich - Your new nickname.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The organ sound on this is fabulous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Linda Lee:

that really is a fantastic sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

CONTROVERSY!! ;-)
Avatar 5:06pm spacebrother:

Small Faces were hardcore, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

They really were
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Linda Lee:

i head the Oo in some of those mod sounds though, for sure, so i think they were listening too! thought for sure that was Moon with the Sorrows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

One of the many, many things I adore about Keith Moon is that his favourite music was surf :-) I think he would have died and gone to heaven if the Beach Boys had asked him to join ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Linda Lee:

was it really?
the surf at Brighton then :-D
Avatar 5:12pm spacebrother:

Yeah, I still have a single from the 1960s of the Who doing Barbara Ann. Was always sure that Keith whined until they did it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm pretty sure he did ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

What's The Who song where Pete shouts "I SAW YOU!!" because Keith had tried to sneak into the studio to sing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Linda Lee:

Barbra Ann? www.youtube.com...
Avatar 5:15pm spacebrother:

Happy Jack?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That makes sense. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Linda Lee:

check that clip after the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep - "'Happy Jack' - Released in December 1966, this early record was one of the only songs written by Pete Townshend to feature John Entwistle on lead vocals. At the end of the song Pete Townshend can be heard shouting “I saw you!”, apparently to Keith Moon who always tried to get his voice onto the recording."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Wait - that;s The Ox on lead vocals?? I did not know that ...
Avatar 5:17pm spacebrother:

I think I knew that story, but had forgotten it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

John Entwistle - most rock and roll death EVER
Avatar 5:17pm spacebrother:

I saw Entwistle in a gun store in Los Angeles the 1980s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

WOW! :-D
Avatar 5:18pm spacebrother:

I was dumbstruck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I don't blame you!!! I think I would have fainted or cried or both
Avatar 5:26pm Don-O:

Sticking ear in while doing some house work. It's Friday, ya know!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Linda Lee:

so then! Oldham decided to work with the public perception of youthful violence & give his middle class school boys the angry working glass patina! media creature!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Linda Lee:

probably his idea to option the book, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

One of my friends lived in Richmond and knew one of Pete Townsend's daughters. one day they were chatting in the street, and she spotted her dad across the road and started shouting to him, getting increasingly louder and louder. No response. Eventually she gave up, turned to my friend and said: "Silly old bugger's as deaf as a bloody post!" ;-)
Avatar 5:27pm spacebrother:

Mold for Malcolm McLaren?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Pretty spot on about Oldham there ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think there;s definitely a link to Malcolm Mclaren - yes! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Linda Lee:

Oldham! you bet!
i'm looking to read Oldham's trilogy.
that's a funny one about Pete.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Linda Lee:

Andrew's not a very good facebook friend, damn him! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've seen him pop up on various groups ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Linda Lee:

has he! good! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Simon Napier-Bell's autobiography is *hilarious*. Unintentionally so. He invented the Sixties you know. LOL. It literally reads like that ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Linda Lee:

haha! nice to know who started it :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Linda Lee:

our Darryl's at work on a book about the Velvet Mafia now. should be good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My laptop screen has frozen!!! On my phone... Bear with
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Linda Lee:

ah. out of time. amazing song. 'who wants yesterday's papers'..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I can't do anything in case I cut the stream
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Linda Lee:

so far so good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Avatar 5:44pm Creature Boy ( Miles ):

Really & truly?! Happy Jack ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Avatar 5:45pm Creature Boy ( Miles ):

Roger Lip Syncs it in the "video"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Laptop still frozen...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's weird - I can move the cursor but that's it. Most frustrating!!!
Avatar 5:47pm Creature Boy ( Miles ):

"The song features Roger Daltrey on lead vocals with John Entwistle singing the first verse, making it one of the few songs composed by Pete Townshend to feature Entwistle on lead vocals."

Aha! Double vocals
Avatar 5:49pm Creature Boy ( Miles ):

Fascinating!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm going to try and Ctrl Alt Delete at the end of the show so Don can get on the stream. Wish me luck!
Avatar 5:50pm Creature Boy ( Miles ):

Entwistle sings lead on the flip side I believe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Linda Lee:

fabulous track here, GG!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Linda Lee:
