Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Alina Brennaman:

howdy everyone!
Avatar 1:06pm Franco Twinkie:

I would love me an expressos, please!
Avatar 1:06pm Mr Fab:

Yum yum, more groovy stew. Hi ARB, what a way to kick off a show: “Pad” and...an exotic version of “Straighten Up and Fly Right”?! Would not have occured to me, but Im glad it exists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Alina Brennaman:

I wouldn't refuse an expresso either
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm chresti:

Hello ARB and cannibals!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Alina Brennaman:

Thanks Mr. Fab, yeah I dig that groovy version!
Avatar 1:08pm Franco Twinkie:

When you hear the bongos you know there is going to be trouble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Alina Brennaman:

Avatar 1:09pm Ursula1000:

ooh these tracks are getting me in the mood for tomorrow's Burlesque Fest here in NY!
Avatar 1:10pm Mr Fab:

To this day, ppl still say “expresso.” Which I imagine to be some kind of coffee that you can drink in a third of the time it takes to normally drink one. (And, since they sometimes come in those little cups, maybe you can?)
Avatar 1:12pm Mr Fab:

A burlesque fest?! I want!
Avatar 1:13pm Ursula1000:

yeah--"expresso" drives me crazy. I think they serve those at Eye-talian restaurants. Oof.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Alina Brennaman:

Yeah I guess I got inspired by the Vedette documentary I just watched
Avatar 1:15pm Franco Twinkie:

Alina, I just found that Artie Barsamian album at Jacks Record Cellar in San Francisco. It's the perfect example of buying a record for the cover and been blown away when I get it home and listen to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Alina Brennaman:

Oooh nice!!!
Avatar 1:18pm Ursula1000:

Did Artie Barsamian do some belly dance records?
Avatar 1:18pm Mr Fab:

I have a different album by Artie Barsamian And His Orch. I bought it cuz it has a track on it called “Balkan Rock.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Alina Brennaman:

He did, I always get seduced by the belly dancer covers
Avatar 1:19pm Ursula1000:

ah I thought he sounded familiar. Ooh "Balkan Rock"---that's GOTTA be good!
Avatar 1:21pm Martinibomb:

Hey ARB and fellow listeners
Avatar 1:22pm Franco Twinkie:

I'm looking for it in this pig sty to no avail, but I love the way the liners notes proclaim that the players are the best Rhode Island has to offer...or something like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Alina Brennaman:

Martinibomb is here!
Avatar 1:22pm Mr Fab:

Franco: ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Alina Brennaman:

Franco: yes that's hilarious!
Avatar 1:25pm Ursula1000:

Ciao MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Alina Brennaman:

All my bearded friends are here
Avatar 1:33pm Mr Fab:

and that's just the women!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Alina Brennaman:

Avatar 1:34pm Mr Fab:

(thanks to old beatnik comedy records for that "joke")
Avatar 1:35pm Franco Twinkie:

If a beard is a prerequisite for been in this club do I still need the application form? Wait a minute, let me brush out the dry oatmeal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm chresti:

I have one whisker poking out of my chin. does that count?
Avatar 1:37pm Ursula1000:

LOVE this jam!
Avatar 1:38pm Hubig Pie:

My face is as cleanshaven as a NY Yankee, but I know what Ill be listening to on Thurs. afternoons now
Avatar 1:38pm Franco Twinkie:

Those violins are like lassos of wet noodles.
Avatar 1:39pm Martinibomb:

Legrand was a madman
Avatar 1:39pm Ursula1000:

I first heard this in the early 90s on the amazing Inflight Entertainment comps put together by the UK's Karminsky Experience
Avatar 1:40pm Mr Fab:

Like tattoos, i've never had a beard. i tried a goatee once, but I just looked like a cholo. Which to the LAPD would be like waving a red flag at a bull.
Avatar 1:41pm Franco Twinkie:

Di-Gue-Ding-Ding was quite a leap from The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg.
Avatar 1:41pm Mr Fab:

Dang, that Legrand was grand.

ARB, What are those funny dialogue bits between songs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Alina Brennaman:

It's an episode of the Go-Go-Gophers.
My beard comment was in reference to the "Castro and his bearded friends" lyric, all modes of facial hair are friends of the stew!
Avatar 1:47pm Franco Twinkie:

Mr.Fab, I rocked the cholo look for awhile without any problems. But regarding the LAPD, years ago I was walking though Venice and two cops in a cruiser called me Che.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Alina Brennaman:

Ah, so you are a friend of Castro
Avatar 1:47pm Ursula1000:

Go Go Gophers...classic toonage! #larrystorch
Avatar 1:48pm Franco Twinkie:

I do like Cuban food,
Avatar 1:49pm Franco Twinkie:

Alina, Have you ever heard Cholly Oop?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Alina Brennaman:

I love Cholly Oop!
Avatar 1:50pm Franco Twinkie:

Not to mention Ling Ting Tong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Alina Brennaman:

One of my favorites, especially since Alley used to be my nickname and Alley-oop my theme song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Rich in Washington:

Splendid show today, Alina! Been busy working so unable to comment until just now.
Avatar 1:52pm Mr Fab:

I love how "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" refers to ladies of a certain profession as "gigolettes". Sounds so classy!
Avatar 1:52pm Ursula1000:

groovy show! catch ya on the flipside...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Alina Brennaman:

Mr Fab, that's my favorite part of that song too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm chresti:

Nowadays, when Franco is out and about, he gets "Hey, it's Jerry Garcia!"
Avatar 1:54pm Franco Twinkie:

Gigolettes sounds like a snack item. Wait a minute! In that context, I guess they are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Alina Brennaman:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm chresti:

Thanks DJ ARB!
Avatar 1:57pm Martinibomb:

Thanks DJ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Alina Brennaman:

Thanks EVERYONE (bearded or otherwise) see you soon!
Avatar 1:57pm Mr Fab:

The spectacular sounds of "Sounds Spectacular" with Ursula1000 are up next:

Thanks ARB for another delicious treat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Alina Brennaman:

From the bottom of my gigolette/jugalette heart
Avatar 1:58pm Franco Twinkie:

This show was a good reminder why I still look through trash piles for records. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Alina Brennaman:

The late Charles Gocher from Sun City Girls did an excellent rendition of this song on his solo album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Alina Brennaman:

Thanks again!
