Here comes the orange tide.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Ah, the doll head trail... quirky and in the city. And remember, "litter makes the angels cry".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Irwin:

Anyone out there? The board is very quiet. Is it working?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Irwin:

^ Answers that question.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Alison Porchnik:

I is here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Irwin:

Hello, fambly.
  3:23pm SeanG:

Hello WFMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Doug in JC:

Good afternoon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm AnAnonymousParty:

"Knocks on mic" Hello?
  3:27pm Laura L:

Board is working--me too, working... the usual quiet panic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Irwin:

DESIGN, dammit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm listener 126464:

Hi Irwin. Usually can't chat during this time slot, and don't get the chance to let you know how much I enjoy your show. I really enjoy your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Irwin:

Thank you Numbered Person.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Phillippe Bastille:

Howdy Irwin and everyone
  3:38pm SeanG:

sweet jazz
Avatar 3:43pm βrian:

Like five-year-old says, "I don't like it. No I don't. I love it!"
  3:44pm Listener Robert:

You lonely, Ol' Pal?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm listener 126464:

Laughner box seems important
  3:49pm Listener Robert:

Hearing that, I can just see the doors swinging shut on Don Adams. And I hear that tune whenever I go down a hall with multiple doors directly on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Parq:

Micro Septet is always welcome. Was lucky enough to see them back when that album was out. "Let's Flip" is another great album of theirs.
  3:51pm SeanG:

anyone here fans of Ben Katchor? dude's a genius right? haven't thought about him in a while, but man..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm JtotheK:

I read 'V' for the first time earlier this year. Hi Irwin, hi everyone. Keep cool, but care.
  3:56pm Listener Robert:

So what brought him to mind, SeanG? Something cartoon-related?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Phillippe Bastille:

I did the same kind of decade-long read with House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski, not necessarily because I loved it but because it was a very difficult reading experience, particularly for a slow reader like me. I eventually lost the book and never finished. I like his sister's music quite a bit (Poe)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Passaic River Blues:

@SeanG: The Knipl stips in the New York Press were golden genius delivered on a weekly basis.
  4:02pm queems:

ah yes the memes of ancient days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm coelacanth∅:

does this guy sound like Shooby Taylor or does Shooby Taylor sound like this guy?
  4:03pm SeanG:

true that PRB. and @listener Robert not really sure, just randomly looking at my bookshelf
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Alison Porchnik:

I have to work with a project management platform called Trello. I dubbed it Trollo because our previous supervisor's trolling nature. This went over well with my colleagues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Hah! "Trollo". The new normal probably.
  4:07pm Laura L:

I can't help wondering if one of those online lyrics sites has the lyrics to Eduard Khil's Trololo Song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Parq:

Ben Katchor collaborated with Mark Mulcahey on a series of operas based on stories similar to those in his strips. I got to see two of them, one about a guy who installs a restaurant coat-check room in his home, and another about a young employee in the tragically cash-strapped NYPL of the mid-70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Irwin:

I'd like to hear more Eduard. Does he have records? Anyone check?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Parq:

Laura, there is a lyric page for Daft Punk's "Oh Yeah". Yeah.
  4:11pm flashbazbo:

Barefoot is a smash! Heard it before here
  4:12pm Laura L:

And you know, what? Yep: http://www.lyricsreg.com/lyrics/eduard+khil/The+Troll+Song/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Irwin:

Wayne Shorter – tenor saxophone
McCoy Tyner – piano
Reggie Workman – bass
Elvin Jones – drums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Rich in Washington:

Wonderful. Love Jones' drumming.
  4:15pm Laura L:

P.S. Anybody who spots an error can submit corrections.
  4:24pm flashbazbo:

I once had Wayne shorters juju in my car during a very stressful time. It was over a year with nothing else in the player. It wasn’t something I felt I was choosing. It was like an adaptation.
  4:26pm Carmichael:

Heya Irwin and homies. I am at home doing home things. Currently, dishes. Better with Shorter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Irwin:

Carm: I like washing dishes by hand. It's a gratifying task. Granted I don't have to wash dishes for ten, but I don't want an appliance that handles the job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Irwin:

The Old Codger was asked by a female staffer what he wanted for Christmas. He gave a puff on his Rancho Malario cigar, and muttered, "I need a doormat and a dishwasher. Which do you want to be?"
  4:36pm Listener Robert:

That's why we haven't heard from The Old Codger lately: He'd be drowned out by Ken's lunk alarm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Irwin:

He's sittin' out in his poutin' shanty, irritated, waiting for the phone to ring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Rich in Washington:

Washing my own dishes is like a sort of meditation. Washing other people's dishes, less so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Alison Porchnik:

For me it's the opposite.
  4:50pm Carmichael:

I may just vacuum next.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Phillippe Bastille:

@carmichael don't forget that little brush of oil on the cast iron...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm listener 126464:

haven't used the dishwasher in around 10 years
  5:00pm Carmichael:

The Captain! Watch the SNL video of this. He stuns the crowd, and there is no applause at the song’s end. Someone mutters loudly, “shiiiit ..”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm common:

Strange captain
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Parq:

Ah, the return of the two dreadful children.
  5:02pm bbob:

i love this a little too much....
  5:02pm Carmichael:

Or perhaps it was Ashtray Heart (he performed both).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Irwin:

bbob, you could do a great cover. And I have the instrumental bed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm listener 126464:

viagra boys get skronky
  5:15pm bbob:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Rich in Washington:

Carmichael, the person blurting out the expletive was supposedly some child actor who happened to be attending the taping, but I cannot recall exactly who.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm listener 126464:

WCBS AM 880 news played a snippet of FOW's Traffic and Weather this morning
Avatar 5:18pm David Vanbellinghen:

That track "Half SMoke" from Walrus was really gooooood! Thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm listener 126464:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Rich in Washington:

Oh. It was Radames Pera who played the young Grasshopper on Kung Fu. Not sure why he was there, but I found the answer on the internet, so we know it's true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm SSS:

I think you have just typified it, man...that's what we love about it. Snide, incredulous, ya know.
  5:19pm mr_donutsu:

I’ve heard about this attitude. The way the WFMU folks swagger into the public radio conferences. Jersey-spread themselves all over the proceedings.

Not making it up!
  5:20pm Laura L:

The artifact on the Doll Head Trail you're featuring atop your playlist has WFMU attitude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Irwin:

There is a tendency to sneer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Irwin:

There is a predilection for having strong opinions about what constitutes "good" music. But isn't that universal?
  5:26pm Davey Gravy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm listener 126464:

Catch It!
  5:26pm Davey Gravy:

Attitude can be good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Irwin:

Davey nails it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm chris:

hi, Irwin and folks. i once met a guy outside a coffee shop. i was wearing the black tee with WFMU on it (i call it the WFMU Devo-tee, get it?). anyway, he said are you with WFMU, and i said, yes, i've been donating to WFMU for years. i always wondered if he thought i was saying i was staff. at any rate, we got into a conversation about what might be considered a WFMU attitude - no matter how obscure, ya gotta embrace it. knowing the back stories of all sorts of bands, albums and tracks and general music snobbery, of sorts. i completely disagreed with him and said all that was just love and obsession. takes all kinds, i guess.
  5:36pm zzz:

rip RH :(
Avatar 5:37pm ottovonbqe:

I liked the Dead; I hated the Dead; I like them again.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Irwin:

Most of them, at this point, are dead.
Avatar 5:39pm ottovonbqe:

I heard it was about a leak in the apartment above jerry garcia's.
  5:39pm flashbazbo:

We are the dead
Avatar 5:39pm Jersey Cowboy:

Thanks Irwin
  5:40pm zzz:

also the last dead song they played at final concert before garcia death
Avatar 5:40pm dale:

that box better be double corrugated.
  5:41pm Dave from Brooklyn:

Thanks Irwin.
Avatar 5:41pm dale:

would make a good flex seal commercial.
Avatar 5:43pm ottovonbqe:

hmm, as the baby boomer rockers die off, a growth industry will probably be repurposing their catalogs for commercials.
  5:43pm Dave from Brooklyn:

Dearest Irwin,Phil Bob,Bill and Mickey are not at all dead
  5:44pm Dave Miss:

Irwin, you might like these guys:

Avatar 5:44pm dale:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Irwin:

Dave: How many are departed?
Avatar 5:46pm dale:

weren't bob bill and mickey a trio in a mighty wind?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm chris:

Phil owns a little eatery and performance space around these parts, iirc - www.terrapincrossroads.net
  5:51pm Dave from Brooklyn:

Three. The Music Never Stopped
  5:52pm Laura L:

Thanks for a fine show and attitude today, Irwin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Irwin:

Only three? Then I retract my ignorant assertion. Long live the Dead.
  5:55pm Dave from Brooklyn:

Irwin,I'd like to thank you for all your passion for music, and, especially for playing Beyond The Sea a few years ago. A musician friend of mine dug up the sheet music for it and we play it quite a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Irwin:

Which version did I introduce you to?
Avatar 5:56pm dale:

check out thumbs carlisle's version of caravan. i'm sure it's on youtube.
  5:56pm Dave from Brooklyn:

Bobby Darin. The original is....softer
