Hoping to see Stereolab in 2 weeks, sold out but watching for folks selling tix. New reissues out are fantastic.

Rich, here too with work. Been real hard to listen/chat lately, but finding those small pockets like today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Rich in Washington:

Zappa doesn't get a ton of play in the WFMUverse.
  4:19pm
Martinibomb:

Why is that?
Avatar 4:20pm
Linda Lee:

too easy?
Avatar 4:21pm
Linda Lee:

the FMU djs like to defy expectations & they'd almost be expected to play Zappa. so they don't. :-D
Avatar 4:22pm
Otis Fodder:

That's a bit true Rich. Gonna pull out a Zappa LP or two on Sunday. Already have some King Crimson (as saw them live last night) out.
Avatar 4:24pm
Mr Fab:

Jeez, add King Crimson to the list of 'see-em-before-they-croak' (to quote the name of Cheech and Chong's recent reunion tour) Tho I did see Fripp with a solo group ages ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Rich in Washington:

I think sometimes people associate Zappa with his more sensationalized solo albums and sometimes noxious personality. I am a huge early Mothers freak. So much good music from them.
Avatar 4:25pm
Mr Fab:

"I Can Phil It " - ha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm

Holy crap, Otis! You saw The Crim for realz last night! Woah!

Bongo Fury... Freak Out... and so on... yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
Rich in Washington:

I wish I had me some bongos...
  4:27pm
Martinibomb:

How was King Crim live??
Avatar 4:27pm
Otis Fodder:

Yea, was amazing. Fripp and Levin played as if they were 20 years old and 3 drummers. 7 piece band doing Larks, Court album (as it's 50 years this year) + Easy Money... the best. 3 hours they played with a 20min intermission. Nutso.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
Rich in Washington:

also interesting that an artist with as an intimidating discography like John Zorn doesn't get a ton of airplay around these parts. I think similar reasons.
Avatar 4:28pm
Mr Fab:

King Crimson were playing at the Greek Theater, which, like all concert tickets nowadays, is so freakin expensive. And we've already recently seen Blondie/ Elvis Costello, and Brian Wilson/The Zombies at the Greek recently. Uh, Li'l Fab, you don't need school supplies, or like food or anything this month, do you..?
Avatar 4:28pm
Otis Fodder:

Fav part was the 21st Century Schizoid Man encore ... and Starless and Bible Black was nuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
Rich in Washington:

Sounds like fun. I haven't heard much of the new lineup other than a few yootoobs here and there...
Avatar 4:29pm
Otis Fodder:

It was pricey, for sure. $90 CAD a ticket (so around $70 USD).
Avatar 4:29pm
Mr Fab:

I would totally lose my poop at those, Otis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
Rich in Washington:

Nice mixin' Martinibomb! This is luverly!
Avatar 4:30pm
Otis Fodder:

It was a fun rock concert and my first time seeing Crimson. Worth it for the cost. Regret so many artists I pass on and then they pass.
Avatar 4:32pm
Otis Fodder:

Only caught Elvis Costello once Fab, in Seattle, doing Juliet Letters in the late 1990s. Really great show.
Avatar 4:32pm
Linda Lee:

i think you're right, Rich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
Rich in Washington:

yeah. I was surprised when Crimson reformed. I thought Fripp was sort of getting out of the performing biz. This might be his last hurrah.
Avatar 4:34pm
Linda Lee:

the fmu dj is *not* going to play what a 'freeform radio' dj might be expected to play. no no no!
Avatar 4:34pm
Otis Fodder:

They are doing mad touring, every year for the past 5 or 6 and have visited Montreal 2 or 3 times over the past decade. Finally said, okay, I gotta go.
Avatar 4:37pm
Linda Lee:

it's good to realize there's really only one chance you have to get something like that done ~ the one coming up right now.
Avatar 4:37pm
Linda Lee:

don't count on another time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm
Rich in Washington:

I don't think any version of Crimson has played Portland since 2001 or so, opening for Tool(!).
Avatar 4:39pm
Mailman Tom:

I went to see the movie, Medium Cool, when it was on the big screen. Luckily, for the filmmakers, the 1968 police riot in Chicago was happening while they were filming.
Avatar 4:39pm
geezerette:

Sounds so good! Everything!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
Rich in Washington:

Fripp did this crazy thing called Slow Music Project here several years ago. Sort of an electric chamber music thing, with really sparse playing, all improvised. Peter Buck from REM, Hector Zazou, William Reifling from Ministry, The Blackouts
Avatar 4:40pm
Otis Fodder:

I read a bit about Tool joking on a tour with Crimson saying to the effect that, hey don't tell those guys we ripped off King Crimson (to King Crimson). Ha, fun. They influenced so many. Those first KC albums + the McDonald Gilles LP are favs.
  4:40pm
Martinibomb:

Oh wow!!! @Mailman would have been great to see in the day

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm

speaking of Fripp!
Avatar 4:59pm

The Nazz nugget "Open My Eyes" will probably always be my fave Todd, but that was maximum cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm

My fondness for Rundgren has grown these last few years. I can now see what all the fuss is about.
  5:01pm
Martinibomb:

yup! Love the Roaches those harmonies are pretty killer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm
Rich in Washington:

Fripp was actually on Saturday Night Live, playing with The Roches, but hidden in the background.
  5:02pm
Martinibomb:

Anyone remember that Todd Rundgren Amiga CG/3D music video from like.. 1990ish?
Avatar 5:04pm
Mr Fab:

Love the Fripp solos in the Roches track. Similar to his "Heroes" and Eno's "St Elmos Fire" leads. Wish he'd done more like that.
Avatar 5:06pm
Mr Fab:

I think this was sampled for Little Fluffy Clouds. Wonder if Reich saw any scratch from that..
  5:06pm
Dave In St Albans UK:

Hi Martinibomb. Now I am in minimalist heaven. Steve Reich is my go to desert island composer. Saw this live with Pat Metheny and Kronos Quartet.
  5:09pm
Martinibomb:

@Dave I like that stuff too. that's why yer listening cause we like the same stuff hah
Avatar 5:09pm
Otis Fodder:

@Fab - Those first 2 Nazz albums are super favs. My vinyl copies are beat down, but sound so good on vinyl.
Avatar 5:10pm
Otis Fodder:

My 2nd fav Prince album here, Sign of the Times. Usually that's a lot of folks 1st favs.. but Parade is the one that is at the top for me. Dirty Mind 3rd. As of now, always shifts/changes.
  5:16pm
Martinibomb:

I never got to see Prince live. Def a life regret for sure
Avatar 5:17pm

You and I both. Came to Montreal twice as well and both times I was like, oh tix are a bit pricey. Should have gone. We have the music though, oh yes!
