Ask not for whom the bell dings, it dings for thee, Mary.

Hello, and greets to you, and Rich there in Washington.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Sem!
Hi Mary!
Avatar 12:12pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Rich and Sem! Ding-dong-dang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm chresti:

Hi whatevers!
Avatar 12:15pm Franco Twinkie:

Mary. Tip top 'o the mornin' to ya!
Avatar 12:16pm Mary Wing:

Good morning chresti and Franco! Happy Wednesday whatever to the west coast!
Avatar 12:19pm βrian:

I had no idea this was in Repo Man. Hah.
Avatar 12:21pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Brian! Been so long since I saw that movie, who can say for sure? Maybe it's time for a rewatch.
Avatar 12:21pm βrian:

My favorite sight gag was the generic can of "food."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Rich in Washington:

Yes, Food. And Drink.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Rich in Washington:

And Dioretix.
Avatar 12:25pm Mary Wing:

Welcome to "Radio," heh.
Avatar 12:26pm Franco Twinkie:

Thanks for reminding me of Repo Man. I only saw it once when it came out. I seem to remember liking it a lot.
Avatar 12:28pm Mary Wing:

I guess I saw it when it came out; I didn't have cable for a long time so I wouldn't have seen it on TV. I'd probably enjoy it more now.
Avatar 12:30pm βrian:

I'm pretty sure I first saw it on VHS, accompanied by a six of Long Trail Ale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Rich in Washington:

It's one of my all time favorite movies. I watch it every couple of years. Worth seeing on a recentish DVD issue with a long, utterly fascinating interview with Harry Dean Stanton. Much, much better than Lucky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Webhamster Henry:

Belew and company played this at the Colony in Woodstock last month. I was a guest of former WFMU DJ Stefan.
Avatar 12:34pm Mary Wing:

Love me some HDS commentary, yep.
  12:35pm rw:

Morning! Never realized how much this song borrows from T. Heads
  12:36pm John from Florham park:

Hello fellow 100 percent fans
  12:37pm fleep on app:

Greetings from the great outdoors!
Avatar 12:38pm Franco Twinkie:

I've found myself actively persuing a program of 1980's L.A. subculture revisionism lately. Lots of stuff on VHS for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Rich in Washington:

rw: The TH influence is all over their album Three of a Perfect Pair and to some extent Discipline. I think there were various periods of his/their music where Fripp was really trying for some kind of commercial success, on his/their own weird terms.
Avatar 12:40pm Mary Wing:

Hey there Henry, rw, John, and fleep!
Avatar 12:41pm Mary Wing:

Did Fripp and Byrne ever work together?
Avatar 12:43pm Mary Wing:

Does the Eskorbuto song have a tilde over the middle n? It's not showing up in my browser. ñ
Avatar 12:43pm Mary Wing:

Why does it work here? ñ ñ ñ
Avatar 12:44pm βrian:

What are you copying from, Mary?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Carmichael:

Heya Mary. Unfortunately, the Eskorbuto song is 100% tilde-free on my browser ...
Avatar 12:45pm βrian:

Os Engañan is what I see.
Avatar 12:45pm Mary Wing:

I'm pressing option + N to make the tilde, then N again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Rich in Washington:

There's some kind of thing going on with special characters lately on the accu.
Avatar 12:48pm Mary Wing:

Avatar 12:49pm david w:

There's some kind of thing going on with special characters? I can relate. Hi Mary and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Rich in Washington:

Hi david w!
Avatar 12:51pm βrian:

Is your browser's default encoding set to UTF-8?
Avatar 12:53pm βrian:

The web server looks like it is properly configured for utf8. Perhaps there's a problem with the underlying database.
Avatar 12:54pm david w:

Hi, Rich. I've got a rare Fred Frith track today, if you want to connect some dots. Top of the show.
Avatar 12:55pm Mary Wing:

Hi David! Special characters are always welcome here, regardless of what the browser thinks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Rich in Washington:

I can't get UTF since a storm knocked the antenna off my roof in '04.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Rich in Washington:

Love Frith. I'll be there with knife and fork!
Avatar 1:00pm βrian:

You'll be wanting the ivor cutlery, I presume.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm coelacanth∅:

b-sides that, your voice is very
low today Mary

- and, hi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm coelacanth∅:

i have a cd by a band called dayglo
completely different band
Avatar 1:11pm Mary Wing:

My voice is low again? Oy, I sound so LOUD in my headphones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm coelacanth∅:

well, i don't know compared to usual; but coming from Duane's voice i didn't know it connected until i hit the volume^ 4 times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm coelacanth∅:

(well, no, i heard you at one hit, then hit it 3 more times)
  1:14pm rw:

I was thinking Chris Cutlery. Just got to work. Thanks Mary!!!! Later kids!!
Avatar 1:15pm Mary Wing:

Hi coelacanth, and toodles rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm coelacanth∅:

hi rw, bye rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm coelacanth∅:

i guess the dayglo that i saw c.2008 and bought the cd from doesn't exist any more. i find nothing on the web.
- another college experiment maybe.
Avatar 1:18pm Mary Wing:

What type of music did they play?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm steveo:

good afternoon!
Avatar 1:22pm Mary Wing:

Hello steveo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Rich in Washington:

This is cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Carmichael:

I completely forgot about the 80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm steveo:

@Carmichael The what?
Avatar 1:52pm Mary Wing:

The 80s remember you, dude!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm steveo:

woah i just clickystarred moby #hadnoidea
Avatar 1:59pm Franco Twinkie:

When I was living thru the '80's it seemed like a less that ideal time, but still very easy to have fun. And I did!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Carmichael:

God, I hope they don't remember me. I did not look and feel my best back then.
Avatar 2:09pm Mary Wing:

Fun, yeah! I am kinda glad that there wasn't the omnipresent cellphones to record every moment, though, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm coelacanth∅:

Mary (@1.18) punk rock, punk pop. 4 females.
Avatar 2:10pm Roberto:

Damn, what a frickin' great song, Mr. Cale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm coelacanth∅:

yeah a great album. 2 or 3 songs from fear are regular invaders of my mind, seemingly with no provocation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm coelacanth∅:

(emily; ship of fools...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm coelacanth∅:

(buffalo ballet)
Avatar 2:15pm βrian:

The hardy harvesters of tomatoes have just returned with two bushels. Let the canning commence!
Avatar 2:17pm northguineahills:

I have a lot of Cale material, and haven't heard this song before.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm coelacanth∅:

i'm the opposite this was my first John Cale exposure, which i bought "blind" and still don't know that much Cale material
Avatar 2:22pm northguineahills:

Mary is the only dj that plays music that is obscure to me.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm coelacanth∅:

my sister's/my garden is yielding many tomatoes but they're mostly not great. the cherry and a medium-small variety are good; the big ones have little flavor.
maybe too much water?
Avatar 2:25pm Mary Wing:

Hiya NGH! My duty is also my pleasure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm coelacanth∅:

lots of onions, none reached full size but they're very good. lots of potatoes and some kind of winter squash i'd never heard of, colored like a delicata, shaped like a pumpkin, size of an acorn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm doctorjazz:

Hi folks, just checking in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm coelacanth∅:

some delicious, medium hot (?) peppers and kale that's been ravaged by caterpillars to the point of not worth the time and water used to clean it up.
Avatar 2:29pm Mary Wing:

Hey there, doctorjazz, glad you made it!
Avatar 2:30pm βrian:

All this time I thought it was "beer."
Avatar 2:31pm Mary Wing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm chresti:

I got that album for my 20th birthday, in '77, my introduction to Cale solo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hey Mary & All. Great 3oaK. One of the quietly great artists. Glad to have seen him at J&R Music during one of their lunchtime miniconcerts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm steveo:

wait so these are al the same song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm coelacanth∅:

i wasn't familiar with Cale or with velvet underground yet in 1977, when i got this album. i bought it because Eno played on it.
Avatar 2:36pm Roberto:

For a moment there I thought he was singing "beer is a man's best friend" and that this was a parody.
Avatar 2:37pm Mary Wing:

Cool Kevin! The J&R near City Hall?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm coelacanth∅:

so far the original has no competition. (i also *always* liked Cale's version of hallelujah the best)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm coelacanth∅:

-and i must get back to work.
Thanks Mary! tchau
Avatar 2:40pm Mary Wing:

I like Shivaree's version, but yeah, Cale's is best. And hell yes to Hallelujah! Thanks for hanging, coela!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm coelacanth∅:

(i almost starred shivaree's version actually.
Avatar 2:42pm Mary Wing:

They do a good version of The Fat Lady Of Limbourg, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Carmichael:

I clickied the Channels version. I like anything that's jangly.
Avatar 2:46pm Sem:

Never followed along w/ Cale's career. Clearly I missed a musician w/ a trenchent way with lyrics. Glad so many took up the challenge of covering this one.
Avatar 2:48pm Mary Wing:

Indeed, Sem, I wish more had, though...
Avatar 2:56pm david w:

Sweet today, Mary (always is). Thanks! See you in skronkland next!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm chresti:

Thanks Mary!
Avatar 2:59pm Mary Wing:

thanks for listening!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks again Mary! i will certainly look into their the fat lady of limbourg version
