@P-90: With Amanda and me, that makes three of us.

this Carlin is an old fave of mine...(West Virginian native, present and representing....)
  8:11pm JakeGould:

I wish George Carlin were alive to do a project with Marie Kondo… “A place for my stuff… That sparks joy!”
Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Jinx:

Washington, D.C. might be the seat of government, but the nation's real capital is New York City.
  8:14pm Johnzo:

this song goes out to sleepy joe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Gaylord Fields:

All are welcome tonight, no matter where you were born.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Amanda:

Good evening, all! I'm so happy to join Gaylord tonight (and all of you!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm redkayak:

I love NY. It makes Chicago seem quaint ;)
  8:19pm Joe R.:

So it’s ok for a former member of the bridge & tunnel set to check in, Amanda & Gaylord?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Franco Twinkie:

The George Carlin observation that I think was on Laugh-in, was the revelation that new number had been discovered between 6 and 7. Scientist named it Bleen. I liked that.
  8:19pm Carmichael:

Heya Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Corey:

While I now live in Michigan and like where I live, I miss NYC daily. Looking forward to this love letter of a show!
  8:24pm yippie:

yeah like Times Square
Avatar 8:25pm northguineahills:

9/11, I was in Loisaida, my gf was on the bus to work, and I turned on the TV and thought a cesna hit the tower. I got my gf's camera, got on the roof, and made a ton of pics (I was less then 1.5 miles away). W/ the telephoto lens, what I thought were windows popping out, I noticed it was people. I developed the pics, never looked at them, and gave them to my parents and bros.
  8:26pm yippie:

reminds me of the sakura park around 120th and riverside
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Franco Twinkie:

NGH, - wow.
  8:28pm JakeGould:

Born in Brooklyn. And remember walking out of my apartment on Atlantic Avenue on 9-11, looking to the left and just seeing that huge plume of smoke. Since I had friends in Lower Manhattan that day, I just decided to wall over the Brooklyn Bridge. Brought my camera along. Got turned away on the Manhattan side for obvious reasons. Have a photo gallery from that experience here: www.flickr.com...
Avatar 8:28pm northguineahills:

(sakura = cherry blossom in nihon-go)
  8:30pm JakeGould:

Also, look at this pic from WPIX on September 13th. Note how they just bluntly folded the background image so the World Trade Center towers were not visible. www.flickr.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: Thanks for sharing the link.
Avatar 8:32pm Roberto:

Sorry to change the subject, but apparently Ric Ocasek has died.
  8:32pm JakeGould:

You’re welcome, Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm Franco Twinkie:

Thanks Jake. Amazing.
  8:33pm JakeGould:

R.I.P. Ric Ocasek. www.nbcnewyork.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Gaylord Fields:

@ngh: This is a safe space to talk about that day.
Avatar 8:33pm northguineahills:

I never went close again to the WTC until my brother and sis-in-law were doing dumbass touristy stuff and wanted me to show them around the 9/ll memorial museum four years ago. I had to drink a fifth of whiskey beforehand just to get near, but after going through the museuam, I'm better now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Gaylord Fields:

@Roberto: Thanks for passing on the sad news.
Avatar 8:34pm northguineahills:

err... museum...
Avatar 8:34pm Roberto:

FWIW, he died in NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm Gaylord Fields:

@Roberto: How dare you make me laugh!
Avatar 8:36pm Roberto:

Well I've got 9/11 stories too if you want 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Amanda:

@northguineahills You bring up something significant which is that people who lived here are usually NOT keen to reminisce over photos or visit the site. I was the same way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Gaylord Fields:

Let's see what the consensus is on that, Roberto. People...
  8:38pm Petra:

Hi I'd just like to let you know that I know this song from bolero class
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Amanda:

I say yes but only if you want to share them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Franco Twinkie:

Go dude!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Gaylord Fields:

@Petra: Yay, you! Dance away, if you care to.
  8:41pm sugarwolf:

Ah, fond memories of listening to this on the actual Champs-Élysées on a tour bus with rest of my study abroad class.
  8:41pm Listening Out There:

Avatar 8:42pm Roberto:

Eh, nothing too special. I got out of the subway at 23rd and 5th between plane strikes. I saw the hole in the North Tower before the second plane hit but didn't think much of it right off.
  8:45pm JakeGould:

@Amanda: FWIW, I pretty much have blacked out on the fact I had those pictures for a few years. Trauma is weird and predictable that way.
Avatar 8:45pm Roberto:

I still have the pics on the first digital camera I ever owned. I haven't been able to look at them for quite some time.
  8:48pm sugarwolf:

I want to see the Wu-Tang show mainly because they shot a scene in the village where I work.
  8:50pm John from Florham park:

Hey fellow listeners ric ocasek just died at 75
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

I adore that Dion LP. "Now" is the best tune on that record. Beautiful (and RIP Ric Ocasek).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm Amanda:

@Jeff glad you love it. I am right there with you -- one of my favorite albums ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm coelacanth:

oh shit now Ric Ocasek?
who was it just this weekend used him as an example and that the cars was his first concert? (an fmu host)

...rest in peace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Hi Amanda and Gaylord. I'm chiming in to send love to you both. I hope I see you soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Gaylord Fields:

Love back to you, Wendy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Amanda:

Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Jinx:

my favorite M*A*S*H* episodes were the ones with Allan Arbus.
  8:56pm John from Florham park:

@Wendy going to miss hearing you on clays show
Avatar 8:56pm Roberto:

A snap, that was Allan Arbus?
Avatar 8:56pm Roberto:

I mean oh snap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Amanda:

It was Allan! Oh snap is right!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm steveo:

Hey there Gaylord. I'm enjoying the mix. I'm pretty sure you can say bitch on the radio though cuz I heard Daryl Hall do it.
  8:57pm ignatatus666:

Something tells me 3 genres of music will not be in this special
New York Hardcore
Punk Rock
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: Glad I could bring you back there. (But a passport would do an even better job -- just sayin'.)
  8:58pm yippie:

I thought Allan Arbus was right in that song, some call it murder
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

The first CD I ever purchased was The Cars S/T in 1986 at Crazy Eddie. His prices were insane. I purchased most of my hi-fi system at Crazy Eddie, J&R and 6th Ave back in the 80s.
  9:00pm JakeGould:

Anyone remember Uncle Steve’s and Mashugana Ike? They were Crazy Eddie’s home stereo nemesis’.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Gaylord Fields:

@steveo: Neither Amanda nor I made this clean edit, and it would have been too much trouble for us to edit any words back in.
  9:01pm John from Florham park:

@Jeff back when the rock stations were great
  9:03pm Joe R.:

Crazy Eddie commercials are a time machine back to the late ‘70s, thanks you two
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

@JakeGould Uncle Steve he loves ya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm coelacanth∅:

crazy eddie had the best record department in my area. $3.67 or $4.32(?) for a single album. i bought a lot of albums based on covers and song titles.
that's how i discovered the cure, a year or 2 before seemingly anyone else. ($3.67)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm coelacanth∅:

uncle steve's on houston?
  9:06pm John from Florham park:

Hey did crazy Eddie get busted for income tax evasion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm steveo:

Ohio Amanda. Sorry I didn't realize you were here obviously. But that was an awesome set. Well Gaylord you never know it might be fun to open the mics and try to fill in the blanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm steveo:

Oh hi*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Franco Twinkie:

In the recent movie Echos In The Canyon, a movie ostensibly about Los Angeles, the portion with John Sebastion walking in the park is a shocking and funny intrusion of muted blue and grey in a soup of yellow and orange.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm melinda:

@Jinx I liked him on MASH too. Interesting to later learn he was married to Diane Arbus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Amanda:

@steveo Ha! We'd probably have a good time doing that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm melinda:

@Franco I wanted to see that. Is it good?
Avatar 9:09pm Roberto:

Allan Arbus's second wife, Mariclare Costello, was a friend of my parents, so he used to come over once in a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm coelacanth∅:

i found a life-size, cut-out photograph of crazy eddie's face, on the sidewalk in new brunswick, round holes for eyeballs. i put it in the back window of my car and for years it got funny reactions
  9:10pm Bobby Jay:

Alan Vega and Martin Rev were the soundtrack of the streets...the essence of NY...more than any other sound in that era....Ocasek producing the 2nd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Franco Twinkie:

Melinda. I saw it at a $2 matinee around the corner from a great Thai restaurant. My opinion is biased.
  9:13pm Johnzo:

my girlfriend is obsessed with Julian casablancas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Amanda:

@Roberto wow, that's probably the closest brush with M*A*S*H I have ever heard about! Allan Arbus (RIP) seems like such a cool guy.
  9:15pm JakeGould:

Alan and Diane Arbus’s daughter was a pretty cool photographer in her own right. Lots of her street fashion pics were in the Village Voice back in the day. www.anothermag.com...

She took one of the best pics of the Clash ever. anotherimg-dazedgroup.netdna-ssl.com...
Avatar 9:15pm Roberto:

From what I remember, he was a nice dude. Although I seem to recall him filling our house with cigarette smoke (cough cough).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Franco Twinkie:

Alan was great as the sleezy record exec in Cisco Pike.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm melinda:

@Roberto cool! except for the cig smoke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm melinda:

@Franco I only recently learned of Cisco Pike, need to watch it now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm coelacanth∅:

wow that *is* one of the best pictures of the clash
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: Amy Arbus took the photo of several WFMU staffers (including this one) that illustrates a New York Times Magazine story about WFMU. www.wfmu.org...
  9:23pm JakeGould:

@Gaylord: Nice! Too bad the New York Times still has that article in some 1990s Netscape Navigator 3.0 formatting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Franco Twinkie:

Melinda, a funny-sad- truly satisfying movie for me.
Avatar 9:25pm Roberto:

Wow, that is some seriously 1999 web design right there. That looks like some of the first web pages I ever built.
  9:29pm JakeGould:

@Roberto: Marquee tag and blink tag era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm melinda:

@Jake sad formatting but interesting piece
  9:32pm John from Florham park:

@Gaylord how long ago was that piece written?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Gaylord Fields:

It's from 1999.
  9:35pm John from Florham park:

@Wow before iPhones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Is there a way to listen to those old RealAudio recordings of WFMU programs?
  9:37pm John from Florham park:

@jJFFR wondered that myself
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Awwww man that Jay and the Americans song brings back memories of listening to WCBS radio as my dad shaved in the morning getting ready for work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Fishtown Mike:

@JffR & @JfFP: You'll probably need to download the free version of Real Player on a computer. It's a POS, bloated with adware, and tries to up-sell you to the paid version. I don't think there's a mobile app, but I may be mistaken. And if you're on Apple, I haven't a clue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Tommy in Neversink:

The original lyrics to Only in America , the Drifters version......were a bit different
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Gaylord Fields:

@Tommy in Neversink: Definitely more ironic/sarcastic.
  9:46pm Dean:

I can't vouch for this, but VLC should play RealPlayer files: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/play-real-media-audio-using-vlc/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Thanks @Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm steveo:

What a special show! Thanks folks! I'm gonna have to go back and listen to what I missed (and not just because I'm a square New Yorker, originally from Delaware)
  9:50pm John from Florham park:

Thanks fishtown mike
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Tommy in Neversink:

Oh...I'm learning that the Drifters cut one with the original lyrics....Atlantic didn't want to release it so they had the lyrics changed to the patriotic version had Drifters cut it and then the Drifters didn't want that released. So Jay and the Americans ended up with it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Amanda:

Gaylord and I thank you ALL so much for listening tonight--you have made this special show so much more special. We appreciate yiz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Tommy in Neversink:

It was a great show concept Amanda
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Done with grocery shopping and checking out the New York groove.
  9:52pm John from Florham park:

@Amanda it was lovely hearing you on another show, love your show on Saturday morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Tommy in Neversink:

You could probably do a couple more hours on this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Franco Twinkie:

This show was fantastic - thanks to both of you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm melinda:

Thanks Gaylord and Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Amanda:
