Hey Jason, wow I'm actually here at your start time! Coffee makes anything possible.
Avatar 11:02am Martinibomb:

Sounding good. Lound n Clear
Avatar 11:02am Mr Fab:

Happy Friday the 13th, all. Settling in for some Jason El-BOO-gen action
Avatar 11:10am Martinibomb:

Just got a spam email with the title "HAY! Straws" I dunno just thought that was funny to me this morning
Avatar 11:24am Jason Elbogen:

Martin: were they trying to sell bulk straws?
Avatar 11:24am Mr Fab:

made of hay?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Jason, MB, Mr F.!
Avatar 11:26am fred:

Good morning Jason and all
Avatar 11:27am Jason Elbogen:

You could probably fashion a straw out of 'hay'. Which reminds me of the cardboard paper (as opposed to plastic) straw I had for the first time at a Manhattan restaurant a few weeks ago...
Avatar 11:27am Jason Elbogen:

Hey Fred! Glad you have another day off...
Avatar 11:29am Mr Fab:

this is perfect waking-up music. (Keep in mind it's 8 30 am here in Chez Fab)
Avatar 11:30am fred:

@Jason: There's a big public transit strike today here. Walking 5 miles to work didn't look good with the heavy pollution
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Rich in Washington:

urgh. Just rolled out of bed.
Hello everybodeez!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Linda Lee:

Hay! Good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Rich in Washington:

Hi LL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Linda Lee:

Hay there Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Jan Turkenburg:

Hay to LL, Hay to Fred and Hay to Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Linda Lee:

Hay Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Rich in Washington:

Hi Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Linda Lee:

amazing recording.
Avatar 11:54am Mr Fab:

all this hay is making me sneeze!
Avatar 11:56am Mr Fab:

Mrs Fab got tix to see Brian Wilson (w/The Zombies) last night at the Greek Theater as a birthday present to me. I am still not down off the clouds from it. What an incredible experience.
Avatar 11:56am fred:

@Jason: according to the Ocora site, the Yo Ji-Suk record was released in 2015
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Linda Lee:

beautiful, Mr. F! so Brian's well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Rich in Washington:

That's cool, Mr. Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Jan Turkenburg:

I totally get that Mr.Fab. Wow... that must have been something. btw, I was playing the Zombies' Summertime version this afternoon at local radio.
Avatar 12:03pm Mr Fab:

Brian seems to be as well as can be....just sat at the piano. his crack band (orchestra, more like), which included old pals like Al Jardine, did most of the musical heavy lifting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Linda Lee:

it had to be great to hear him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Rich in Washington:

This is something, Jason!
Avatar 12:05pm Mr Fab:

Jan, after their excellent opening set, the Zombies came out later and performed "God Only Knows" with Brian & group!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Linda Lee:

wow ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Jan Turkenburg:

I can imagine that was magical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Linda Lee:

read a piece recently on the aging of our musical gods. we'll be losing them all before long ~ unless they're intergalactic coyotes like Keith Richards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Linda Lee:

who, unfortunately, seems to be losing his capabilities, going by a recent gig review.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Rich in Washington:

speaking of zombies...
Keef just mounting the stage with his guitar has become the whole spectacle.
Avatar 12:11pm Mr Fab:

"intergalactic coyotes" that's great. Well, that's exactly what we were taking about with some of the other people in the audience. (They were kicking themselves for never seeing Tom Petty) See the legends while you can (And I STILL haven't seen neil Young...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Rich in Washington:

This show is just amazing, Jason! It's really waking me up.
12:11pm Dave In St Albans UK:

And the Zombies came from St Alban's!
Avatar 12:13pm Mr Fab:

Wow Dave, they should have a plaque in the town square or sumthin! They did a few of their hits, some new tunes, then played the entirety of "Odessey and Oracle" with an expanded group.
12:13pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Btw Jason. Today's show is going down very well with me. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Linda Lee:

indeed, Rich! those are pretty expensive sightings, too.
they've got to keep it up, though. the families to support alone! to me it sometimes seems like a weird curse.. like the red shoes!
Avatar 12:14pm fred:

@Mr Fab: I haven't seen Neil Young either, and most likely never will. Just too expensive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Linda Lee:

Mr F ~ lucky me, saw Tom Petty early on at the Bottom Line in New York. sat within a few feet of the stage, '78 or so. great show! beauitiful energy. :-) but the point is to catch it all as best we can before we're out of time, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Linda Lee:

& then, to avoid regretting what we haven't done.
12:16pm Dave In St Albans UK:

@Mr Fab There should be a plaque. I need to check that out. Colin Blunstone et al have done some local gigs. I missed the last Zombies gig though.
Avatar 12:18pm Mr Fab:

I hear ya Fred, shows are crazy expensive nowadays. But I'll see Neil if i have to live on raman for months!
12:19pm Dave In St Albans UK:

My favourite was seeing Arthur Lee with a reformed version of Love performing Forever Changes. Sadly he passed away the following year.
Avatar 12:20pm fred:

But I did see a good Jandek show this year (and have seen Keiji Haino several times)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Linda Lee:

i saw Keef with his original teef! that should count for something.
Avatar 12:24pm Jason Elbogen:

Fred--As a person who learned about Jandek in college because of the dozens of records he sent (that almost no one ever played) to my old radio station in Iowa 25 years ago, it's mind-blowing to think that I'm here reading about someone who saw him touring Europe...
12:24pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Linda that made me laugh out loud! :-)
Avatar 12:24pm Mr Fab:

Dave, i went thru a period where i would see a legend and they would die shortly after, like within months. Link Wray, Joe Strummer, Tito Puente, Ray Charles..they all gave great performances, they didnt' seem old or sickly. I was beginning to worry that i was carrying some kind of curse with me, esp after Strummer.
Avatar 12:25pm Mr Fab:

Keef's Teef - anyone need a band name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Linda Lee:

:-D :-D
Avatar 12:26pm Mr Fab:

Oh, and Jason - this Afro stuff is a JAM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Linda Lee:

yes beautiful ~
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Linda Lee:

Mr Fab, that is very, very strange.
i'm not beyond thinking you had a 6th sense about who you should see, even if it was subconscious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Linda Lee:

we do have premonitions.
12:30pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Keef's Teef. I'd buy it! I am currently reading Irwin Chusid's "Songs in The Key of Z" which I think is a great read. He has a chapter on Jandek. I might explore his "difficult" music after reading up on him. Any recommendations on where to start with his music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Dave in St Albans UK: I really like his debut album, Ready For the House, and Telegraph Melts, Blue Corpse. IMO, most of his early 80s, to late 80s records are pretty good/unique/interesting.
Avatar 12:33pm Mr Fab:

Steve Marshall doesn't look like a singer, more like someone with some kind of official ID who's just like to ask you a couple questions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Rich in Washington:

Irwin's book is essential for this kind of stuff. Most of the artists in it are dead now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Linda Lee:

actually went down a little early Stones rabbit hole last night. they were a fun band. working very hard, apparently, but clearly still enjoying it.
Avatar 12:38pm fred:

@Jason: It gets worse: I even ordered 20 CDs from him this summer
Avatar 12:40pm Mr Fab:

Don't worry, Jason - one of my tag lines for this channel is "Problematic Programming." I trust the audience to be smart enough to take things in the proper context.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Linda Lee:

american culture & society are deeply racist & this has never gone away. no use denying it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Thibault:

Hi Jason, hi Fred, hi everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Thibault!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Linda Lee:

hi hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Linda Lee:

gorgeous recording..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Linda Lee:

there's an idea.. follow that basic lyric through all its musical trips! maybe the last time. i don't know.
Avatar 12:50pm Jason Elbogen:

here's a link to contemporary reporting on the Carmichael case:
www.newspapers.com...
Avatar 12:50pm Mr Fab:

This is spectacular gospel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Linda Lee:

fantastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Linda Lee:

everyone used the term 'colored'. that was an acceptable way to designate non-white. it wasn't pejorative.
12:58pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Hi Rich in Washington. Just purchased "Telegraph Melts" and "Blue Corpse" . The reviews sounded intriguing! Thanks for the reco's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Rich in Washington:

This album has been on my Discogs Marketplace wantlist for as long as I can remember.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Rich in Washington:

Yay! Hope you like them.
Avatar 1:02pm Mr Fab:

Oh man, i have a digital copy of 'Ratfucker " from ages ago, should really check that out again. Thx for reminding me of it, jason! (And this "Mo" is really from 1976?!)
Avatar 1:05pm fred:

I like this Billy Woods & Kenny Segal track
Avatar 1:20pm Mr Fab:

"Gynt on the Rocks" must surely go down in school-record history. Wonder if it's been re-issued a la Langley Schools Music Project..?
Avatar 1:22pm Martinibomb:

B4 I forget I keep meaning to make sure I am pronouncing your name right Jason.. is it Elbo-Gin like the booze? Or Elbo-gain (like again but without the a?) Or say it on air so I get it right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Thibault:

Nice music from Belgium
Avatar 1:26pm Mr Fab:

Elbow Gin sounds like a cocktail i would not want to try, but I do think that's how it's pronounced.
Avatar 1:33pm Martinibomb:

Thanks Mr. Fab.. I always start talking about his show and then I'm like am I pronouncing his name right??
Avatar 1:35pm fred:

Jason, I have an idea for your new bed music: use one of Chief Kooffreh's backing tracks!
Avatar 1:37pm Mr Fab:

fred: Ha!
Avatar 1:51pm Jason Elbogen:

Fred--That's a really good idea, I'd have to remove the vocals though (there's no way I can compete with the Chief, even in the background)
Avatar 1:52pm Jason Elbogen:

Also, I could rebrand every show-ful of mike-breaks as a 'new album' and sell them on Amazon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Jan Turkenburg:

yes we hear the dog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks for a great show, Jason. I especially liked the school choirs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Jan Turkenburg:

I don't have anymore... :-(
