Play some Omar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Phillippe Bastille:

Howdy Irwin and friends. Thank you for the lovely(?) pic. I've had to make my browser window really small so I don't keep looking at it. Like a train wreck look at it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Chip Wickham > Chief Wiggum
  3:05pm Brendan:

Hey aqualung, jazz flute!
Avatar 3:07pm Listening Out There:

Isn't this romantic? Our ears, walking hand in hand...
  3:07pm tmtealium:

is this lana del ray?
  3:09pm Laura L:

A masterful painting of Silly Putty people.
  3:15pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

good "HOT" afternoon IRWIN! woo summer is back 87 degrees out there!
Avatar 3:27pm Jeff Moore:

Curse you, light bulb chicks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Irwin:

I had to give them away. We didn't live on a farm.
  3:31pm jan:

@Irwin- wow- incubated eggs and hatched chicks! When I was, I made a plywood box equipped with a light bulb hoping to hatch eggs. After about 23 days and no life emerging from the shells, my father decided we had better crack open the eggs. The shells contained a dark brown hardened deposit. Talk about cognitive dissonance.
  3:33pm jan:

that was: when i was 9
  3:34pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

WOW! i never heard IRWIN tell audience members to STFU! abouy the heat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Irwin:

That was the National Weather Service, Phil.
  3:39pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

O I C. my mistake IRWIN. SORRY
Avatar 3:40pm kuriousornj:

there is a song called Join The Dots by Dragon Welding!
  3:42pm Chi Bill:

Thanks for the Melissa Laveaux, Irwin! Did a quick sampling of a few of her other songs, all nice enough but ...Evil HYPNOTIZES me for some reason, nice pick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Irwin:

Thanks to Otis F. for Mar-Tie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm zopa:

wonderful selections, Irwin. enjoying the show very much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Phillippe Bastille:

Irwin, you totally missed the sawzall discussion on Ken's show this morning. Yes, they most definitely still use saws
Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Manana:

Is there any cool art left at the Stormville market? Up our way, can't even find junque. Just junk.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm DroneTree:

Velvet 500 would sound just like the Velvet Underground, bit with more nasally vocals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Irwin:

Daniel Johnston, R.I.P.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Irwin:

^ That's not a band name, that's news.
  4:00pm flashbazbo:

Irwin: really enjoyed that Genesis last week and the comments and then the back announce. It would be a great weekly feature. You hear something and you get that feeling you are being teed up just a little. It could be “I. And Thou”. Or “Chus your poison”.
Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Manana:

That is sad news. 'I Did Acid With Caroline' is a favorite tune.
  4:02pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

Hey! IRWIN IS RIGHT! I just called the NOAA weather hotline and they said "stfu! stop complaining is a one day thing"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Lizardner Dave Somethingorother:

Aw man, that's sad. May he find peace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Irwin:

Got a stack o' Daniel Johnston CDs. Any requests?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Rich in Washington:

@Irwin: NOOOO!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Rich in Washington:

@Irwin: Lord Give Me Hope. I can't immediately recall which album it's from - 1990?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Spankyflop:

Walking the Cow is a fave of mine
  4:04pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

Daniel Johnston. "some things last a long time" AND "Speeding Motorcycle"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Irwin:

Best if you can check albums on Discogs.
  4:05pm Laura L:

Oh, gee, Daniel Johnston's off the planet now--I'm glad to hear any you might pick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Irwin:

Will play "A Little Story."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Irwin:

And "Sorry Entertainer." Others?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Rich in Washington:

Walking the Cow.
  4:10pm owlex:

I just found out Daniel Johnston died. super bummed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Rich in Washington:

Wow. Sad news. For some reason, was anticipating it after fellow Texan Roky Erickson.
I got to sort of meet Daniel at KBOO radio years ago, sort of meekly said hi to him on his way in and out of the station, where he was recording an interview.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Parq:

What, really? Our Daniel Johnson? The poor son of a bitch. What someone else said about him finding peace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Irwin:

Good suggestions above. Digging them out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Rich in Washington:

@Irwin, if you have it, the Kathy McCarty album of Johnston covers, Dead Dog's Eyeball, the song 'I Had A Dream About You' is particularly lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Booz:

Also, Ain't No Woman Gonna Make A George Jones Outta Me. Or whatever it's called. Damn what a songwriter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Booz:

@Rich, I adore that McCarty album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Rich in Washington:

@Booz: me too. I love it. A wonderful take on his music by someone who really loved him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm The Oscar:

Haven't been keeping up with the comments, but aw man-- that's a rough one. So glad I got to see him (on an "on" night, even!)
  4:20pm Laura L:

Aw, he was only 58. Heart attack.
https://www.austinchronicle.com/daily/music/2019-09-11/austin-songwriting-genius-daniel-johnston-dead-at-58/
  4:22pm Miles:

please keep playing Daniel
  4:22pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

WOW! he was only 58.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Parq:

"Walking the Cow", wow, what a WFMU hit that was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Rich in Washington:

Aw. This is all getting to me. Such sweet songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Lizardner Dave Somethingorother:

If Daniel had to check out I'm glad Irwin was on the air when it happened. Nobody could give him a better send off.
Avatar 4:25pm Hoboken Jack:

Damn, Daniel is dead?? Phew that hits hard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Parq:

Really, a good test as any of whether or not someone is an FMU listener is to ask if he knows who Daniel Johnston is. Sigh -- was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm VincentNifigance:

Good night, Cosmic Kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm futurescamp:

So sad, so many unique songs, thanks for playing some good ones, Irwin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm The Oscar:

Aw, Casper. I recorded a cover of this for a friend's production class in college. Always loved this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Sad, but not at all surprising to hear of Daniel Johnston's passing. Hung out with him a decade of more ago at a Folk Art festival he was showing at in Atlanta and he was in rough shape then. Love his music and his artwork. Rest easy, big man.
Avatar 4:30pm beata:

Glad for him. The world can be a merciful place sometimes.
  4:30pm Miles:

someone mentioned "true love will find you in the end "
i wouldn't mind hearing that my own self
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Carmichael:

Excellent Daniel Johnston. I saw the documentary on a whim years ago and fell in love with the charm and innocence of his songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm crateslinger:

I first heard Daniel as a teenager in western Massachusetts on some tape comp. No idea what his music was doing out there in 1985, but it worked on me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm crateslinger:

Never heard of him again until I found WFMU
  4:33pm John from Florham park:

KUTX most likely will do a tribute to him too
  4:35pm Andy:

Living Life please
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm The Oscar:

The documentary is incredible-- I'd heard so many of those stories for years, and was stunned to realize how much of it was caught on tape (Sonic Youth finding him wandering the streets!)
  4:35pm John from Florham park:

@Crateslinger ever since I have started listening to this station and the various shows I have been turned on to so much good music and deep dives with established artists
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm VincentNifigance:

‘An Idiot’s End’ is the most staggering example of his genius at such a young age, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Booz:

Didn't hear Johnston till the early 90's, but those songs backseeped into my past and now I'm sure they shaped my rawest childhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Carmichael:

I didn't know he was born right here in Sacramento. I wonder why ...

We spawned Fanny, Spiral Starecase and now Daniel Johnston.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Rich in Washington:

I love the argument with his mom bit on one of his early tape releases. No idea if real or staged, but it was simultaneously funny and a bit sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm The Oscar:

Damn, so many killer songs. Barely keeping it together at my desk at work...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm VincentNifigance:

@RichInWashington: a bit of both I always thought, you could hear him setting her off “Inreally don’t think you’re being fair to me, mom...” then he’d start playing as she would spit back in exasperation!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm The Oscar:

Thanks for that, Irwin. Can't think of a more appropriate place to hear the news.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Booz:

That was a great trib. Thank you Irwin and everyone writing in rn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Carmichael:

In the doc, his dad began following the life of Brian Wilson, because he believed Wilson suffered the same ailments as Daniel.
  4:43pm John from Florham park:

@Irwin thank you for the fine tribute one of the reasons why I really love this station
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm G:

Even Billboard of all places sent out a news alert:

billboard.com/articles/news/obituary/8529716/daniel-johnston-dead
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm VincentNifigance:

@G Billboard love to get on the hearse bandwagon, they cited Purple Mountains in the top 10 albums fans waited over a decade for, last month.
  4:53pm andrewb:

could this be considered "math rock"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Rich in Washington:

Mr. Fab is nuts! In the good way!

@irwin agreed!! i almost added that
  5:40pm The Butterman:

My wife hate hate hates Tull!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm G:

@queems: Many hardcore Tull followers would say A Passion Play. I guess this is the sequel to last week's progrock wrangling time :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Irwin:

I hate Tull from Aqualung on.
  5:42pm Melissa:

YAAASS! More Tull. So happy to hear something that NOONE else plays on the radio!
