Afternoon! Until this moment I think I thought "Sadeness" was a nod to the singer. (Also "Return to Innocence" is one of my bucket-list karaoke picks).
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2021 3:39pm ncjay:

the whispering in "Sadeness" is by German singer Sandra, who put out some really good albums with plenty of pop hits in the late 80s and early 90s
Avatar 3:42pm djsheilab:

P-90—Ha! Thank you for summing it up so wonderfully! I should use that as my new tag.

@P-90 Harvey was a pig
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Planet Tyler:

Terry Crews also froze when he was groped and no one is bigger than him. The brain just is in shock that something like that is happening esp. in a so-called safe relationship/place/party etc.
  4:08pm P-90:

Avatar 4:08pm djsheilab:

Planet Tyler—Appreciate your right-on thoughts here. I'm glad the "freeze" response is starting to be more thoroughly discussed. It's what happens to nearly everyone in that situation.
  4:09pm John from Florham park:

@Shelia nice sound effect to blank out the naughty word
  4:11pm Toothgrinder Tom:

The nice thing about studying jiu jutsu or some other martial art is that it teaches you to overcome that natural instinct to freeze when in danger.
  4:13pm WoodsOfNH:

Good gawd, I am totally digging this song!
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 4:14pm tneeld:

I listened to this album three full times the day it came out, which is unheard of for me. The last line on this song is a killer.
Avatar 4:14pm djsheilab:

WoodsofNH—It's pretty spectacular, huh? It's a GREAT record.
Avatar 4:14pm djsheilab:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm tim from champaign:

In a training I was in recently about the effects of trauma, freezing was discussed as a naturally/instinctual response to a traumatic event. Along with fight and flight, freezing can occur because a person wants to assess the situation before acting (this is all occuring in a split second). I don't want to sound glib in relaying this because I'm deeply empathetic toward the women Weinstein assaulted, DJ Sheila's description of the doc reminded me of this.
  4:20pm Jocelyn:

I’m glad that discussing freezing, the psychology of it is becoming more discussed openly. For so long it was oh it couldn’t be so bad if you didn’t run or react differently but you froze!
  4:21pm Mike tp:

enjoying papisa...
Avatar 4:21pm djsheilab:

@Jocelyn—Exactly! And thanks for sharing your training experience @tim from champaign. I think there's a lot of worry about not wanting to make the other person feel bad...even they're about to rape you! Women are taught not to ruffle feathers.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Michael 98145:

how horrible ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Planet Tyler:

Thankfully people arent just saying fight or flight anymore - it's flight, fight or freeze. You'd think witnessing it in animals for so long we'd have picked up on it sooner!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm thatpatsmith:

Sing it, Brenda!
  4:24pm John from Florham park:

Great movie but very strange the crying game
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm tim from champaign:

The term used for freezing is 'flocking' which stems from the instinct to stop and observe what someone else is doing to respond accordingly. The example used in my training was a newborn/baby looking around their surrounds to gauge how to react when something happens. With that said, no one should be criticized for how they responded to violence toward them. It doesn't matter how one responds; it's the person who being violent who is at fault.
  4:27pm John from Florham park:

@tim thanks for this information, I have learned a lot from very knowledgeable people on this accu board
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm frozen_peas:

100%, Tim!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm tim from champaign:

Loved the Guelden Karabocek
  4:37pm Jocelyn:

Tim, such amazing info. Sadly women are still being taught to not ruffle feathers or that us being the sensitive beings we are might have misinterpreted something. It’s changing thankfully.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Passaic River Blues:

I always wonder what synths are being used in Turkish music from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s. Generally, the use of the synth seems to fit perfectly with pop Turkish folk. The melding is so lovely it feels somewhat akin to how traditional Irish musicians discovered and incorporated the bouzouki.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 4:42pm RomanDogBird:

great pick for SOTW!

This Carla Thomas is SO good.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 4:45pm dreamyandseedy:

lana is getting bolder and more experimental, i hear her channeling leonard cohen in at least one song on that record. if she can maintain her fan base with an album that's pretty different from her past releases, that gives me hope for the future of "mainstream" music

I continue to defend the CD format for compilations, such those they put out on Ace.
People do not understand me. Maybe they will.

  5:26pm tripod:

Must admit I’ve only been able to listen out of one side of my head today. Busy at work. But the moments I have been able to focus have led me to jump around as usual!
  5:26pm Barba Yiorgi:

Lijadu SISTERS I think were living in the D.C. area at some point. Can confirm...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm tim from champaign:

This is what the Stones wanted to sound like in the late 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Phillippe Bastille:

My 24 yr old (non-FMU listener) just stuck his head in my office when the Lijadu Sisters were singing and said "Wow, this is really nice!" I will convert him! He doesn't listen to a lot of music anymore -- we had similar tastes when he did, but he kind of gave that up when he dove head-first into listening to political podcasts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm tim from champaign:

Damn kids and their podcasts!
  5:31pm John from Florham park:

@phillippe don’t listen to political podcasts
Avatar 5:31pm djsheilab:

Phillippe Bastille—A very good sign indeed! Good luck showing him the light :)
  5:31pm Rick G:

Cheers to all, late to the show, from McCormick Village Park in Port Orchard WA.
  5:32pm Barba Yiorgi:

Altin Gun are opening for Tame Impalas now. Once again, FMU jumps on the greatest new stuff FIRST
