I get it. Today's playlist image paraphrases today's news stories. Took me a while...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm AnAnonymousParty:

Odious Descent Into Decay sounds like it could be a Digger Smolken album.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm AnAnonymousParty:

I'll be disappointed if we don't hear some Digger Smolken, I don't wanna listen to derivative crap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...it's like - dADa & Surrealism &tc. had to try & make sense of the World Wars & the 20th Century generally - & in turn got appropriated wholly by the Horror Genre
...& Rawk Movements are generally just Art Movements reinstated w/ Black Rhythm & Blues added...
...what exactly should Art's response be to the World as it is now? What is the balance or the catharsis - the requisite sort of outrage? What kind of RawkaRolla makes the Six O'Clock News psychically digestible?
What drugs are correct for adolescence? Given the complete lack of Ritual in 'rational' society?
What polite cocktails would be appropriate for standing in the Plastic Rain half a century after Woodstock??
I would argue it's FMU, Hearty White & Lonnie Holley - for examples...
Avatar 4:02pm coelacanth∅:

From the Carpenters album where they cover Klaatu!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Karen shoulda been in SteelyDan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm jmd:

I was simultaneously positive this is, and absolutely convinced this is not The Carpenters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Mark Hurst:

Enjoying the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm zopa:

hi irwin.
  4:24pm berbo:

@jmd - It's actually The Beatles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Irwin:

Hello, Mark. And all other fine souls tuned in. And Ike.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm jmd:

@berbo. Gotcha. Never heard Yoko's vocals so smooth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

David Sanborn ruined some of those 70s & 80s songs too.
don't give Tom Scott all the credit.
  4:42pm Meesalikeu:

singing in the shower to the magnetic fields cover — its not often i know all the words to a wfmu song, so i had to go for it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Irwin:

Derek and the Dominoes - The Band with a Curse...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Irwin:

To whom or what?
Avatar 4:59pm coelacanth∅:

i guess Sanborn has done lots of respectable work but lots of "smooth jazz" too. (which is never respectable) and shitty pop solos.
not my cuppa tea.
Bobby Keys may be the only pop music session sax player worth listening to (?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm ɨkɛ:

Not into current events, huh? Or rather, your media isn't reporting on the latest bizarre ramblings and is randomly focusing on some business owner griping about nothing in California instead?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Irwin:

Wayne Shorter did the amazing solo on "Aja."
  5:01pm Laura L:

Back from 2 meetings and tuned in. Last Town Chorus--haven't heard her in a long time!
Avatar 5:02pm cuteCloud:

no dad
Avatar 5:05pm coelacanth∅:

i'll have to go back and listen to aja. i don't doubt you and i know there are lots of good sax solos in pop music.
i just always dug Keys' playing.
  5:06pm Trueth Speaketh:

This is a f***** top show so far!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Irwin:

Have we purchased Greenland yet? Are they at least at the negotiating table?
  5:07pm Jim from Tranquility:

The intro sounds like the Kodak theme
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm zopa:

i purchased a greenland a couple of years ago. had to return for a refund. it was yellow.
Avatar 5:12pm coelacanth∅:

and who wants a yellowland
  5:13pm berbo:

Just add some blueland and you're all set.
Avatar 5:15pm flashbazbo:

So I made this spotify station for Sun Ra and Eric Dolphy. And Moondog kept popping up. And I have to say he is the most crass, commerical thing on the station. It did need a little of that though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Mike East:

Diggin' the MMW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Irwin:

I once created a Moondog station on Pandora. It was all over the fuckin' place. There was no consistency at all. Total free-form, unpredictable.
  5:18pm Laura L:

Had Bully Demise taken control of your Pandora?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Irwin:

LL: You got the right idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

If Cage wrote this I think he likes Monk...& some Rags...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm ⓘⓚⓔ:

As the Dotard's ideas go, this... isn't the worst... I guess? I mean, it's peak disaster capitalism since everything's getting warmer, and hey, Alaska turned out to be a pretty good buy. But the WH staff is putting it off because they know that once he realizes it's full of natives and not nice white Danes, he'll say he wanted Iceland instead. And we all know Bjork is NOT having that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Talk that Siberia will be prime real estate.
For real.
Avatar 5:28pm coelacanth∅:

i once made a ...i think it was sigur ros/mogwai pandora station and it was good
then suddenly these reggae songs started popping up. (i love reggae but it didn't work) i contacted pandora and said it does not make sense why would they do this? and there was a several day back n forth investigation. it turned out this woman i was seeing stuck a reggae song in the station seeds to be funny.
Avatar 5:30pm flashbazbo:

Irwin: Alogorithms are getting better with each click I suppose. They must have connected Sun Ra with MD, which must be progress right? Pretty soon we will be at full algorithm and no worries anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Audition :
How you Listen.
Like Buddhism suggests you are so concerned w/ thots & actions & feelings
- but never w/ the instrument doing any of these things...

LONG AGO there was a - *something*cast - don't even remember the name... rated thousands & thousands of artists songs & albums & subgenres... & Yahoo! bought it to monetize it - or Sony bought it from Yahoo? - & - it stopped. So much for ratings...
Haven't had the heart to start w/ another - & w/ FMU & Podcasts no timw anyhow...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Carmichael:

Love the Status Quo. Allegedly the inspiration for Spinal Tap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Quo 1st album goes well w/ BG's '1st album' as PostRevolver Freakbeats...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm diciassette:

The Wonder Stuff! algorithm, how did you know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm mariano:

This TF sounds a bit like Pictures of Lily.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...there's comedian Bill Hicks picking on Astley...eh - there's worse Pop...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm ɨkɛ:

There is a severe thunderstorm in Newark right now, and the sun is shining brightly at the same time. Must be Greenland's fault.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

' The Real McCoy is the seventh album by jazz pianist McCoy Tyner and his first released on the Blue Note label. It was recorded on April 21, 1967 following Tyner's departure from the John Coltrane Quartet and features performances by Tyner with Joe Henderson, Ron Carter and Elvin Jones. Producer Alfred Lion recalls the recording session as a "pure jazz session. There is absolutely no concession to commercialism, and there's a deep, passionate love for the music embedded in each of the selections". '
Almost the Trane-less Trane Quartet...
  5:56pm Dave Miss:

Almost sounds like dumpsta funk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Deffo an art to holding the Fonk & the slow burn of letting it out...
Avatar 5:58pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Irwin
