Favoriting Cannibal Stew: Playlist from August 15, 2019 Favoriting

ARB swings to the other Belgian Popcorn. Very passionate vocalists, naive orchestrations, irreverent pranks.

Hi, what's stew with you?

This shorty long 45 I'm convinced will turn up sometime in a dollar bin for me. I've convinced myself.
Avatar 1:04pm
Mr Fab:

hey hey JtotheK, ain't it always the way? You fork over big $$ for that which you MUST have...and see it in a bargain bin a month later.

You've convinced me, it really seems like one that could be overlooked in there

Where do you find your 45s, ARB? Not too many shops in LA carry many singles. Is it some secret surfin' spot you can't tell us about?

Re: 45 stuff ... I've lucked out that there's a spot not far from where I work so I can get there over lunch on occasion, and the owner is mostly interested in 45s and turns over stock ... often. I've found decent popcorn/soul/jazz 45s there lately.

Hey U1K!

I was a little worried about that Sal Davis song: Uh, he's not singing "man-kini", is he?
Avatar 1:16pm
Mr Fab:

Haven't been to Caveman, but I work downtown, I should swing by sometime..if The Last Bookstore hasn't taken all my record (and book) money. Apart from LPs, they have boxes o' 45s galore. Beware!

I'm having a yard sale at my house this Saturday, there will be a big bargain bin of thrashed 45s and a whole lot of rare Latin & Brazilian records that my friend from Mexico will be selling, send me a message if you want the address

Mr Fab:

Will do! I work Saturdays, but hope to make it.

Today August 15, 1959 RICKY NELSON appeared for one show at the OREGON CENTENNIAL EXPOSITION. The 19 year old Rock & Roll singing star and co-star of ABC-TV's THE ADVENTURES OF OZZIE & HARRIET arrived at PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT at 1:55pm from Denver, to appear at 3:00pm on the CENTENNIAL ARENA stage at the "Pacific International Livestock Exposition" grounds, off North Portland Road.

Tickets at J.K. GILLS were $1.50 General Admission; $2.00 Main Floor & $2.50 Reserved. 15 years and under were FREE! "4,750 plus real gone gals were going to mob the handsome rocker." (Photos in the Oregonian). RICKY NELSON appeared "with an All-Star supporting cast." THE BURNS TWINS & EVELYN a dance trio, THE MADCAPS a harmonica duo and JACK LaDELL a comic.
  1:42pm
Martinibomb:

I wonder how the Real Gone Gals are doing. Cool band name #888
Avatar 1:45pm
Mr Fab:

Look at that linup: a teenage rocker, a dance trio, a harmonica duo with the promising name of The Madcaps, and a comic. Now THAT'S a full evening of entertainment. they don't do it like that anymore. I mean, a harmonica group?!
  1:46pm
Martinibomb:

and only a $1.50 admission and free if you're a little squirt
  1:47pm
Martinibomb:

I hung out with his sons once they tell terrible half nelson jokes
Avatar 1:48pm
Mr Fab:

that band Nelson? Geez, they were awful. Nice hair, tho.
Avatar 1:49pm
arb:

Yeah, that lineup is a dream! Also 3pm is my ideal time of day to attend a performance
  1:50pm
Martinibomb:

LOL! I am totally with you on the 3pm time. Super tired of late nite shows surely there is a niche for early shows?
Avatar 1:52pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, i am all the way with you guys - theater has matinees, why not music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm

enjoyed the tunes! thanks DJ ARB! cheers everyone.
Avatar 1:54pm

that "Walk to the Bottom of the Sea" track was surreal creepy coolness.
  1:56pm
Martinibomb:

You seem to feature vocalists with a deeper range. I like your slight bent toward that with your show. Thanks for the music today.
