I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Hello Mayuko and Verti-goers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm fred:

Good afternoon Mayuko and listenerds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, Mayuko and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Mr Fab:

hi Mayuko, and everyone. Boss has me working Saturday (and Sunday) now, so i get to listen to you live instead of sleeping!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Yvang:

Hi, Mayuko and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm tmoyo:

Hello Mayuko and all!
  12:07pm rw:

Hello! I've got two questions: tmoyo, did you ever figure out how to make tortilla chips? And anyone else, what should I do with this old slide projector?
Avatar 12:07pm Mayuko:

Thank you so much for tuning in, rbrt, chresti! Hola my radio family fred! Hi james! Excited to have you tune in, Mr Fab!!! Hi Yvang, and tmoyo!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm tmoyo:

rw, thanks for asking! I can't find the ingredient anywhere in stores here! Maybe there are at Costcso? but I dont have membership...
BTW I also have an old slide projector in the closet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Mr Fab:

rw: you've got to make like Charles Phoenix and hit the thrift stores/estate sales for cool old kodachromes. maybe get your own slide show happenin.
Avatar 12:13pm Mayuko:

@rw! I got the ice cream box!!!!!! The delivery day was filled with tension because the buzzer of my apartment is broken and my phone has been broken for a while now so there was no way for the delivery guy to alert me of his arrival. But it arrived safe and sound and passed the cat inspection! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm fred:

Horrible surprise at the local supermarket today. This being a quiet week, they decided to renovate the ice cream section. Which means: No ice cream! After the heat wave we got this week, this was not a welcome development
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm chresti:

Quel dommage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm tmoyo:

ou est mon icecream?
  12:21pm rw:

tmoyo, we need to work on this... I had some ice cream sent to Mayuko. Maybe we can send you a package of tortillas! Fresh homemade tortilla chips are one of the best things in life.
  12:21pm Rickwaukee:

BECAUSE the world is round . . .
  12:21pm rbrt:

vertigo is jazzy today
Avatar 12:21pm JosephB:

Hey everyone! @rw I kind of miss the days of artists giving actual slide presentations. It was such a pain (and expensive!) to shoot slides, make dupes and masters, etc., but there was something nice about finally viewing them in a darkened room.
Avatar 12:21pm Mayuko:

@fred This summer has been horrible in the ice cream dept here too. I would have had to seek for asylum in Turkey Hill Ice cream Nation if rw didn't come in for help.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Mr Fab:

What savage lands do you people live in without immediate access to ice cream?! Good thing about L.A., we have frosty treats around every corner.
  12:23pm rw:

Mr. Fab, I'm not sure I could pull off the C. Phoenix thing. I was kind of hoping someone with those aspirations would offer to come by to take this thing off my hands!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Mr Fab:

rw- and they could start a band:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm tmoyo:

rw, thanks so much for the offer! I might be visiting my sister who is living in Wisconsin this autumn so maybe I can try them there!
Avatar 12:25pm JosephB:

@tmoyo I seem to recall that it's pretty hard to find tortillas in Japan, even though you can find tortilla chips. When I lived there I had to have someone send me some so I could make burritos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm chresti:

tmoyo, where are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Mayuko; playverts...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Mr Fab:

I kinda grew up listening to Carl Stone's radio show on KPFK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm tmoyo:

chresti, I'm at Yokohama, Japan.

JosephB, yes ... no luck so far in the Tokyo area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm chresti:

oh, Japan!. No corn
  12:28pm rw:

Mr. Fab, that reminds me I used to show slides over my friends' psychedelic punk rock band. They were called Toxic Era. Maybe there's still hope. And I too used to listen to C. Stone's show!
  12:30pm rw:

And Joe! Hey, man. Yeah, the darkened room, the spilled carousel...
Avatar 12:30pm JosephB:

@rw the occasional upside down slide...
Avatar 12:31pm JosephB:

@tmoyo Where are you going in Wisconsin? That's my home state. There should be plenty of tortillas there.
  12:31pm rw:

Avatar 12:31pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee I recently saw an article that says that there are more and more people think the earth is actually flat and the world being globe is a conspiracy of globalists. so the world being round is making some cry for real.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm chresti:

tmoyo, maybe these guys know...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Dropof Goldensun:

Hey there Mayuko and Listenerds!
Avatar 12:33pm Mayuko:

Hallo Joe B!!! I never used it for presentation but I used to have one for my shadow puppet play. It does feel magical to see slides in a dark room somehow. Maybe I should get it from rw and start it again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm tmoyo:

JosephB, It's a suburb of Milwaukee, a town called Brookfield.

Thanks, chresti for the link!

@Mr Fab You're right, my relief ice cream aid did get sent from the west coast. Maybe it's about time for me to leave this damn savage land called NYC!!!
  12:37pm Rickwaukee:

There is an El Rey Market at 5200 W Oklahoma, Milwaukee
Avatar 12:39pm Mayuko:

Hi coelacanth∅, and Dropof! Thanks for tuning in!!
Avatar 12:39pm JosephB:

@rickwaukee Good tip. Do you ever get those lemon chilli tortilla chips from El Rey? Those were so good and there's nothing like them in LA
  12:41pm Rickwaukee:

@JosephB I've had them in front of me before but they just disappeared! None in LA? weird
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Brian in UK:

Hello Mayuko and slide show tortillas everywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm tmoyo:

I will remember El Rey! Thanks Rickwaukee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Brian in UK:

Ice creams or lollipops?
  12:42pm rbrt:

I like this Malkuth
  12:42pm Rickwaukee:

You can also get El Rey tortillas at a Pick N Save grocery store right in Brookfield
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm tmoyo:

beautiful track.
  12:44pm rbrt:

“vibrational” sounds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm coelacanth∅:

i have hundreds of picture slides. only a few dozen that i shot myself. i got my aunt's when she checked out a few years ago. only looked at few so far but she travelled the world many times and took a lot of "cultural" shots, as well as landscapes and such.
my father's, mine now, are mostly crap like ordinary boats and buildings. it's possible though that the many slides from my childhood are in there somewhere.
  12:47pm rw:

Okay, I need to head out here in a sec. Mayuko if you want this thing it's yours. It's a little bulky but cool. It has a projector and also a sort of built in screen. Takes up some space in the closet.

Thanks chresti! It was fun! Remember when life was fun?? Okay, it's not so bad now but still.

Mayuko, I'm a little curious about the ice cream delivery. There must have been dry ice involved. Also wondering if you liked them?? It's okay if not.

I've got more questions and info too, but my buddy's here. Gotta go. Will listen to the remainder on archive. Take care everyone!! Was fun hanging out briefly!!
  12:49pm rw:

Oh, someone ask Mayuko about Rego.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm coelacanth∅:

take care rw
  12:50pm rbrt:

for some reason the beginning of Ruidos made me think of that foghorn track where it’s just a foghorn playing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm chresti:

Good day, rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm tmoyo:

have a nice day rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm coelacanth∅:

i've considered eating some ice-creme lately. there's breyer's coffee ice-cream in the freezer here, where i'm staying for a few days, but i think it's been in there a few months.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Brian in UK:

@rbrt there was a Steve Miller track with a foghorn, was it Children of the Future?
Avatar 12:53pm JosephB:

@rw catch you later!
  12:54pm rbrt:

@brian no like this was literally just foghorn blowing for the entire track. I’m pretty sure Mayuko played it here lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Franco Twinkie:

Howdy Mayuko! This ice cream and tortilla chip crisis people are suffering through right now sound serious. As if we don't have enough to think about!
  12:56pm rbrt:

summer corn is delicious :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Dave in Vermont:

what was that about Matmos, please?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm fred:

Carl Stone and Matmos! Sounds like a must-go event
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm coelacanth∅:

Franco, i can't relate to the crisis. i have lots of good (as opposed to turkey hill) ice-cream available where i live; but i haven't eaten ice-cream since last summer. i'm lucky in the tortilla chip/burrito department too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Mark Hurst:

Enjoying the show, Mayuko, thanks!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm tmoyo:

I've never heard of that word too...is it 暗愁?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Mr Fab:

Would the English equivalent of "saudade" be "melancholy"? Or with a quantifier, like 'bittersweet melancholy"
Avatar 1:10pm Mayuko:

Hi Brian, welcome on board!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm fred:

Saudade looks too much a part of Portuguese and Brazilian culture to be going anywhere soon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm coelacanth∅:

i feel like there's a connection between having a feeling that you can't articulate with a word but found music that corresponds to it, and what i experienced as a child, before the tendency was crushed by others, to describe sounds with colors...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm fred:

I liked that Laugh Stains track
  1:16pm rbrt:

@fred yeah so did I
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm chresti:

I liked the title of the Laugh Stains track

@Franco All my well-being is depending on ice cream, so it's pretty serious, though my Chinese medicine doctor didn't agree with me on that.

Avatar 1:20pm Mayuko:

Hi Mark!!! Thank you for listening!!!!!
Avatar 1:21pm JosephB:

@Mayuko I'm curious, did rw send you some It's It ice cream sandwiches?
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

@rbrt yeah, and it's fascinating to learn how words changed their meanings over long time, too.

Avatar 1:29pm Mayuko:

@tmoyo, yeah 暗愁 is the one, I saw somewhere that 永井荷風 was the last person to use that word in publications (though I don't know if it's true or not.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm northguineahills:

No A/C or fans....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm tmoyo:

Mayuko, interesting! will look into it afterwards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm melinda:

@ngh that's horrible.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm tmoyo:

Have to get up early tomorrow so I'm checking out early.
Thanks for the wonderful show Mayuko!

BTW, in case there are are people who like The Cure on this message board.
I just found out that Fuji Rock Festival is live-streaming some of its acts through 2 youtube channels, and their performance will be broadcasted from 9 PM Sunday, Japan time.
That’s 8 AM Sunday in the US east coast, super early... even more so further west, but they seem to be rebroadcasting it afterwards.
For those who might be interested, here is the link.

@james nice to have birds close by to watch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm northguineahills:

Avatar 1:43pm Mayuko:

@Joseph B Yeah! A PILE OF IT'S IT! BEST PACKAGE EVER DELIVERED TO MY HOUSE though, again, my chinese medicine doctor would have seen him as my drug dealer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Franco Twinkie:

Years ago I was visiting with a friend in Prague. Like me he is a Mexican-American from Los Angeles. I asked him how he dealt with the totally unexceptable Mexican food. He said he could throw together a suitable version with ingredients from Spain. Tortillas? I asked. "Well believe it or not, Kmart has pretty good tortillas." Wait a minute! There's a Kmart in Prague? I asked "Yup" he said. I was flabbergasted, but I found the Kmart and I found the tortillas!

Avatar 1:45pm Mayuko:

@Franco yes, but NYC is a dreadful place, and also I only eat tooth paste flavored ice cream. This summer many ice cream places seem to be replacing it with some other flavors and I just can't find it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Rich in Washington:

Mayuko! Been listening while doing household chores but unable to comment until now! Great show today!
Avatar 1:45pm Mayuko:

Hi melinda!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Mr Fab:

hey Rich!

Franco, that is hilarious. i just can't quite imagine a Prague K-Mart...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm northguineahills:

@Franco: Most Mexican restaurants in FL are awful (or cater to gringo tastes of what they think is "Mexican". Luckily, there are enough tiendas de Mexicanas that I can get the right ingredients to cook for myself, and do it proper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Rich in Washington:

Save toothpaste flavored ice cream!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Rich in Washington:

Hi everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Can't you just put a big squirt of toothpaste on some vanilla until the shortage corrects itself?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm melinda:

@Franco I didn't know there were Kmarts in Prague. Weird. When I moved to Iowa from Texas I found no good tortillas, it was sad. Probably different now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm fred:

Mayuko, if you ever come to Paris, I've been told you should visit Berthillon. I've passed by the place many times, but after midnight and it was closed. They're said to have great ice cream, but they might react poorly if you ask for toothpaste flavors

Talk of saudade reminds again a a murami book colorless tsukuru, on the topic of Franz Listzs “mal de pays” Maybe not saudade but related to giving a word to a feeling

copied from a blog

When Tsukuru first hears Haida’s recording of Franz Liszt’s ‘Le mal du pays,’ from the Years of Pilgrimage suite ‘Year 1: Switzerland,” it is described as “a quiet, sorrowful piece that began with a slow, memorable theme played out as single notes, then proceeded into a series of tranquil variations” (68). Tsukuru asks Haida about it. Haida says, ‘Le mal du pays’ is French and is “usually translated ‘homesickness,’ or ‘melancholy’, or as precise a translation as can be managed ‘a groundless sadness called forth in a person’s heart by a pastoral landscape’” (69). Tsukuru adds that the piece evokes “a calm sadness without being sentimental.”

someone i used to know had an ice-cream/smoothies/juice/ best cookies i ever tasted shop and made her own ice-cream. maybe 20 flavors (?) and her mint-chocolate chunk flavor had pieces of mint leaves in it, as that was the sole source of mint flavor. it was a taste sensation!
