A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I've never hears that Blue Nile song before. Thanks for turning me on to them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Phillippe Bastille:

Hi all. Hey Chris, welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Phillippe Bastille:

Ooops, no Chris yet. Save that hello for him, I'll forget.
  9:27am The Butterman:

Ooooooooo I love this song. Discovering the Blue Break Beats album was a pivotal moment in my life!
  9:36am sol:

kinda was expecting you'd tell what day it is !
Avatar 9:37am oshiwoshi:

was it soulIIsoul?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Blacktooth:

"Moon nerd." ---- "Textile detective." ------ I love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Passaic River Blues:

Wow, did not know there was a Brown Sugar/SoulIISoul connection. Pretty impressive CV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am melinda:

I went to the Air & Space museum when I was 9 or so, the highlight for me then was the astronaut-style freeze-dried ice cream.
Avatar 9:42am egal:

The film is set in the Catskills.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am melinda:

I liked A Walk on the Moon, good film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am steveo:

just yesterday I learned that there's an interesting-sounding moon photography exhibit at the met through september
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Trouble:

right catskills, not adirondacks. thanks@ egal. you can tell i was raised in a flat state by the ocean...
Avatar 9:44am northguineahills:

I heart this Magnetic Fields album....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am pantz:

Have you seen Moon by Duncan Jones, @Trouble? Great flick!
Avatar 9:45am mjl5:

Great Apollo 11 film = 8 days: to the moon and back (airing on public television these days)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Webhamster Henry:

I posted a link to Moonbird last week - the perfect Modern World Moon movie: Moon, Birds, unrehearsed kid dialog, Hubleys.
Avatar 9:46am northguineahills:

From age two, every time we visited my aunt in DC, we'd hit most of the Smithsonians (Including the Air & Space Museum). As a little kid, I loved that one (and the others), and I've been a museum fiend ever since.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Trouble:

oooo duncan jones film, that's a good idea! thanks @pantz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am pantz:

Sam Rockwell does a great acting job. It's pretty much just him the whole movie. Very haunting.
  9:50am J. from Readington:

I was watching C-SPAN 3 over the weekend; they were showing old CBS coverage of the Apollo 11 mission
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Hey, this sounds like it's remixing the Dog-Faced Hermans' "Bella Ciao". In fact I'm sure it is (trumpet and distinctive Marion voice)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Ike:

Spaceheads!!! WFMU classics!
  9:54am kevlicki:

Canterbury wood elf, I was just wondering the same thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am sphere:

hullo. took me forever to realize i needed to reset the password.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Just checked www.discogs.com... it's indeed Marion on vocals, but the trumpet part is Andy Diagram. So a remake rather than a remix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Trouble:

i looked up the two bands to see if there was overlap but wiki says no. i dont know the dog faced harmans so i can't say...it is marion coutts on vocals, andy diagram on trumpet
  9:59am kevlicki:

Cwood-elf Just came to the same conclusion from reading Coutts wiki page
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am sphere:

if you're on the National Mall, try the cafeteria in the National Museum of the American Indian. it gets good marks.
  10:01am kevlicki:

It also appear Coutts has a memoir called The Diagram...intriguing, I’ll need to make some reading time this summer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Yes, apparently that book is incredible. Keep meaning to get a copy. She became a much-respected sculptor and lecturer at a London art academy, but the book is an account of losing her husband to cancer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Adrian in London:

Hello Trouble, greetings from the surface of the sun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Greg from ZONE 5:

Morning, Trouble and all!

Avatar 10:25am northguineahills:

Who knew Adrian was a sommelier?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hello, Adrian. How are things in Great Kingston these days (esides too hot)?

Russians have something similar to ravioli, called pelmeni. Carry on, folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Ken From Hyde Park:

<also, "United Kingston" ... that was the joke>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Adrian in London:

@sphere I love it, especially the slightly petillant, lemon sherbet types. Some great ones from Australia, and Germany/Australia, of course
@northguineahills I'm no Somm, just a copy editor!
@Ken I'm champion, thanks. But it is insanely hot, for London, today. loads of trains have been cancelled or are running slow in case the rails buckle. And yes, we somehow have an inflated pig's bladder and his mendacious cronies leading the country but… same Hydra, different head. And yes, i got the joke ;-) The Prince of Whales sends his regards…
  10:30am Listener Robert:

WMFU 90.1 sounds fine.
Avatar 10:31am northguineahills:

A lot of copy editors frequent the WFMU comment boards, apparently....
  10:32am Anssi Määttänen:

greetings from Finnish archipelago - music match perfectly with the mood..
Avatar 10:33am northguineahills:

I'm more of shiraz/merlot guy myself.

@Diezel Tea: There's a Russian grocery store here, and I made a good pelmeni soup from the dumplings I got there....
Swag For Life Member 10:34am tadpoles:

@Adrian in London....."Some people poo poo Australian wines"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Adrian in London:

@tadpoles Sorry, I don't get the reference
Avatar 10:39am northguineahills:

@tadpoles: I prefer antipodean wines (Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Australian, and Kiwi wines), good quality for a lesser price.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am sphere:

@ NGH I am a technical writer/editor myself.
Swag For Life Member 10:42am tadpoles:

@Adrian...it's a quote from Monty Python. Silly stuff that my head retains and I can't shake it out. Cheers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Phillippe Bastille:

@sphere really? are you freelance or do you work for a company?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Guido from Cologne:

"Stop Bajon" was a hit single in Germany.

We're a bit tribal in this country too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am melinda:

I get Calabria and Campania confused. I'm clearly not Italian.

Southern Italian rivalries intrigue me, even more then the north vs. south.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am melinda:

My mom has an elderly friend whose family came here from Italy when she was a very young child, and dissed Nancy Pelosi over something, attributing it to her family being from the wrong region.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am melinda:

@ngh it's like Wisconsinites and Minnesotans making fun of each other. Or so it appears to outsiders.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Greg from ZONE 5:

Hell, even North Jersey and South Jersey don't get along. (It's Taylor Ham, you backwoods troglodytes. Let's Go Mets!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Phillippe Bastille:

@melinda is it the Pelosis she's upset with or the D'Alesandros (her maiden name -- big political family in Baltimore past)
Avatar 11:10am Hubig Pie:

Pork roll my good man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

  11:11am Alessandro from Italy:

Great Starfuckers !!! real anarchist_rock ...
Ci sono altri italiani ?? Priscilla are you italian ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am melinda:

@Phillippe might have been the D'Alesandros, but it was an Italian regional issue at root.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Priscilla:

@Alessandro: no I just took a couple years of Italian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Yes:

lucio dalla caught me.... hello everybody
  11:15am rbene99:

Awesome music keep it UP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am pantz:

Cacciatore! Now that's some Italian I can understand. Throw in some tiramasu and we're in business!
  11:16am Alessandro from Italy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Luisa24:

i lived in Italy during the mid 70's (I was a kid) at height of Dalla and Battisti These songs go way back and always make me cry! Grazie per la musica questa mattina!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Mick:

that lucio dalla is stop-you-in-your-tracks good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Carmichael:

Heya Trubb and radio contactees. Today will be 100°F (37C); By sunday it will reach 108°F (42C). Welcome to California ...
  11:26am Alessandro from Italy:

However, here ther's no more north/south rivalry.
Unfortunately there are too many leaguers / fascists who are against foreigners. And those fascists have the sympathy of so many ignorant people. Italian politicians take advantage of it to produce suffering and get lots of votes for themselves.
Swag For Life Member 11:26am luxardo:

Think the word is "Sehnsucht"
Avatar 11:28am northguineahills:

Fernweh, is that the German term?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Ike:

Isn't there a (conspiracy?) theory (??) that Ace of Base is a bunch of Nazis and that "All That She Wants" is about nonexistent welfare queens? ("All that she wants/ is another baby....")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am steveo:

395 [wfmu] playlists found where Artist starts with "neil diamond" :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Carmichael:

Fernweh means "desire to travel" or "wanderlust". Sehnsucht means "yearning", as in for someone or something one remembers.
  11:33am deepcreep:

Cheers you guys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Ike:

Ah yes, here it is! This is... sort of hilarious, but also terrifying: www.cracked.com...
Of course, since this article was written in 2015, we got a fuckin' Nazi president, so it really doesn't seem all that peculiar anymore. (sigh)

I love this show, and look forward to it, and this is the first time that it is boring me to tears. But I will still support it. Freeform forever! *yawn*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Wilson in SO: whenever i feel bored with something on the radio, i imagine it being performed by weeping pickles. Works every time.
Avatar 11:49am northguineahills:

@GST: I need some of those pickles! (not bored, just like pickles).
  11:51am JT:

My old lady, who knows a lot about wine and beer, has said for years that "wine-beer", referring to beer brewed with traditional, natural wine-making techniques, is still waiting to be properly discovered by the beer bros. She is still right.

The bee bros are still discovering hazy IPAs, popularized by early Bissel Bros beer and invented with sloppy brewing techniques. Beer can be so much better when it gets away from hop-loading and into brewing technique.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

@NGH, if you make pickles, i am sure i would be interested in your recipe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Luisa24:

I was hoping you'd play Ancora Tu....now I am just bawling...in a good way!
Avatar 11:56am luca:

absolutely adore this battisti song
Avatar 11:59am northguineahills:

@GST: My wife has made pickles before, I have an idea of what recipe in my head of how to make them, but it is rather time consuming.

Thanks Trouble et Chris!
