holy smokes! whats this a jazzy @fabio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm coelacanth∅:

mr. giant man, where are you?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm coelacanth∅:

(though i'm loving the trane)
3:11pm Darryl Strawberry Pinched My Huge Melons:

hello fabio
  3:12pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

sounds like something you hear up the dial at KCR columbia university
Avatar 3:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

How Long's Trane Been Gone ?
52 Years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 3:13pm Bas NL:

Hello Fabio and friends of failure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm coelacanth∅:

...more like something you*should* hear on kcr but rarely do (last i knew)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Passaic River Blues:

Definitely in the goes-without-saying category, but this is really, really good.
Avatar 3:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Surprising how easy it is for me to name my Favorite Jazz Artist.
  3:15pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

TRUE! KCR has gone downhill a bit but they love their Charlie "byrd" parker
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Carmichael:

Anything with funky flute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm coelacanth∅:

that's good anyway. i actually haven't heard kcr in about 22 years, since i moved out of their fm signal range.
Avatar 3:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

& my favorite singer... :
Avatar 3:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...story David Crosby was stoned seeing Trane in a club - & felt absolutely pinned to the wall. So he goes in the restroom - & Trane comes in there still playing...
  3:19pm human:

lets raid area51 Fabio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm coelacanth∅:

haha RR i hope that's true!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Passaic River Blues:

I used to tune into KCR weekday mornings before I'd go to work and leave on "Bird Flight" for my parakeets. You have to admire Schaap's dedication.
  3:21pm human:

I'm serious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm coelacanth∅:

i feel a Trane binge coming on. could last weeks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Michael 98145:

... ah, July 17th ...
  3:28pm John from florham park:

Ahh from Columbia university
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm coelacanth∅:

from late 1980s to late '90s the store i worked in played kcr frequently; but it got more and more lame/tame as time went on -which may've been okay for the customers but it bored the hell outa me, as i was getting more and more into David Ware (who was a customer there) and William Parker, Trane, Shepp, Anderson, Braxton...
but we never stopped putting on the rhythm review on saturday mornings.
Avatar 3:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

There's Destination Out on the Drummer stream Sunday mornings - don't forget.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm coelacanth∅:

(...though the rhythm review was really dull too, when i think about it now; comparing it to Duane Train, Kris Holmes, etc on wfmu)
  3:32pm John from florham park:

@RRn63 do they jazz at times?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm coelacanth∅:

RR -and music for a free world, also on the drummer stream.
alas Scott McDowell no longer on the schedule
  3:34pm John from florham park:

@Coel that sucks about Scott but the real world does intrude at times
Avatar 3:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@John: Yeah DO is mostly Jazz: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm coelacanth∅:

yeah...i am happy for him anyway, despite my/wfmu's loss
  3:36pm John from florham park:

@RRN63 just looked I had a senior moment:)
Avatar 3:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Saturdays : wfmu.org...
Avatar 3:36pm Chris from DC:

That show sounds amazing.
Avatar 3:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Roy Haynes on that! - not Elvin Jones...'spreads it around' a little more than Elvin...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm coelacanth∅:

Kim Sorise also plays lots of jazz
  3:37pm John from florham park:

@Coel I know a lot djs have day jobs just glad it does not intrude on our listening pleasure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Passaic River Blues:

coelacanth∅: Were you referring to "Rhythm Revue" with Felix Hernandez? I also used to love that show and still have a fondness for it, but, yeah, continuous exposure to Duane, Evan, Kim, Small Change, Fine Wine, etc., etc., shows you there is so much more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm coelacanth∅:

Dave Sewelson is the bomb! he's funny and he has great guests on. (not last week so much, in my opinion! but usually)
6-22; 5-25; 2-23...some of my favorites...
  3:42pm John from florham park:

Hey guys there is WBGO that plays jazz!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm coelacanth∅:

PRB yes Felix Hernandez!
...and yeh i knew i left off a big one -Fine Wine. it's hard to match that.
Avatar 3:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

For Jazz that's mostly easy on the nerves but still real - there's a podcast out of Conn. called 'In the Groove'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm coelacanth∅:

so now i'm all fogged up was the rhythm revue kcr or bgo? i thin k it must've been bgo. (which in general made kcr look pretty wild!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm chresti:

Home! That last set was perfect freeway music.
  3:46pm John from florham park:

@RRN63 going to heck that podcast out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm coelacanth∅:

Coltrane definitely took the free way
Avatar 3:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Trane was like Picasso & his periods. They could critique a lot of Free players - but they knew Trane had the chops & discipline.
Avatar 3:48pm Lixiviated Life:

The plastic exploding inevitable failure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm coelacanth∅:

RR exactly. i'm, not sure i can always tell if a free player has the skills to play anything (Trane, Ware, Braxton...) or plays only "free jazz" because he/she really can't play "traditionally" well. i think i can.
Avatar 3:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Here's neat little Jazz history lessons w/ Music :
Avatar 3:52pm kuriousornj:

and this is 'excerpt' !! (Charlemagne)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Michael 98145:

Irwin has pretty great taste in jazz ..
  3:54pm John from florham park:

I love the fact you can learn a lot on the accu boards from other people thanks
Avatar 3:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@coel: Question of course - does it matter?
Next: If you don't have traditional structure - you better come up w/ something quick together! Simply different skills...
Also: I tend to suspect a lot of 'Free' players come deeply from Roots Musics - Blues, Gospels...which is actually more Traditional anyhow! But then people like Braxton are frighteningly Theoretical...so too general...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm coelacanth∅:

Michael i agree; though he doesn't lean toward "free" jazz so much
Avatar 3:55pm geezerette:

Hello, Fabio & gang!
WFMU is astonishingl I'd like even more jazz but all the DJs that play jazz here play the strongest, most original, most passionate jazz ever played. We have a jazz station in L.A.,KKJZ, that was really good but has devolved to a sort of top 40 jazz hits kind of thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm coelacanth∅:

RR a)certainly not, if i can't tell!

and i agree about Braxton. i love him when he's free and some other times but sometimes it seems pretty stiff to me.
Avatar 3:57pm geezerette:

...& DO is superb.
Avatar 3:58pm geezerette:

Fabio, elegant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Michael 98145:

I'm still waiting to see the Fire Music documentary. freepfilmfestival.com...
Avatar 3:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Probly a disservice to Braxton : @ DO I'm told he's pretty funny ! :)
But making the point about being Technical or not...
  4:00pm John from florham park:

Hey fellow music fans there is a station from Miami called WDNA which plays a lot of jazz and one of the few decent things about south Florida
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm coelacanth∅:

...but maybe i *can* tell! maybe that's the freejazz that doesn't move me. (the majority of Brotzmann...) or moves me toward turning it off asap (the majority of Ayler...)
i do Love Braxton, as i've said...despite possible stiffness!
(especially his baritone work)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Michael 98145:

i do like Ayler. maybe cuz i was younger then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm coelacanth∅:

(and i'll be glad to hop onto the d.o./Jeff Golick praise bandwagon)
Avatar 4:05pm Chris from DC:

Digging this Ariel Kalma.
Avatar 4:06pm geezerette:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm coelacanth∅:

i just cannot stand Ayler's tone. he makes it sound like a cheap toy horn!
that said, for his birthday, both Jeff and Sewelson played some Ayler tracks that i actually did like. i knew it was possible, so i waited for it and was rewarded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm coelacanth∅:

(and i am aware that my opinion about Ayler could not be a popular one with wfmu people)
Avatar 4:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@coel: I do remember 'discovering' Jazz as a kid - & trying out some Ayler & thinking - 'this is not Trane'...but that was then...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm common:

Happy Thursday! I’m insane
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Michael 98145:

we're all mad here.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm coelacanth∅:

RR i never heard Ayler until i was already third eye deep in David Ware and Ornette, in the 90s, decades after liking Trane and Cecil, which i got in to as a teenager. (so, an adult already) it's not his composition i don't like, it's his tone...and what seems to me to be severe limitations in his repertoire.
Avatar 4:27pm kuriousornj:

'Is This Love' is this: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm common:

Indeed, Michael
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm coelacanth∅:

greetings common i'm totally normal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm common:

@coel: greetings! Oh, I know!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm common:

That film kills me. Gonna cry now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Michael 98145:

Would love to see those films again on a big screen ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Mister Dobalina:

Anthology Film Archives, what an amazing place, always showing something different everyday and something unique. My fav theater in nYc.
  4:39pm Cumulo Nimbus:

That Balthazar movie was devastating to me. I felt so sorry for Balthazar (and all the poor animals t/o history). I was I think close to a mild bout of depression and that sealed it.
Avatar 4:48pm Chris from DC:

Been on a Fabio Orsi binge lately, and this is another to check out.
Avatar 4:53pm Fredericks:

Had an intense/exciting day and this Fabulous Orsi is just what I need. Thanks, Fabio.
Avatar 4:53pm Fredericks:

Just the right speed and intonation.
Avatar 4:55pm βrian:

This is what I want to hear in airports.
Avatar 4:58pm Fredericks:

Absolutly, Avatar βrian
Avatar 4:58pm Fredericks:

This seems too intense. Slow it down Fabio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Tome:

That was very nice !<>!
Avatar 5:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Indeed - Ambient Music should come w/ an adjustable velocity knob...
  5:06pm spodiodi:

good good
Avatar 5:08pm Fredericks:

This is slow?
Avatar 5:09pm Fredericks:

You got it, Rev. Where's Steve? He'll invent one.
Avatar 5:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

You can change podcasts rates w/out pitchshift...but only specific increments...
Avatar 5:12pm Fredericks:

Avatar 5:12pm βrian:

What's on the menu of the restaruant with this dining music?
Avatar 5:12pm Fredericks:

This lady needs to calm down. I want Fabio Orsi back!
Avatar 5:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Many players have...
  5:15pm Cumulo Nimbus:

OMG, what are my neighbors going to think?! ;>)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm coelacanth∅:

it's okay, as long as they think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm coelacanth∅:

(and as you're looking at 70s mainstream music references in that set "afterglow" also -a song by genesis)
Avatar 5:46pm Fredericks:

Getting really close!
Avatar 5:53pm Fredericks:

And this (Fun Years) works. You, sir, are a master.
Avatar 5:55pm Bas NL:

With you @Fredericks... This by The Fun Years is beautiful.
Avatar 5:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Start w/ Trane - end w/ Jimi. Arc of the Universe...
Avatar 5:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Not bad for four tracks & limited funds that 1st album...
Avatar 5:58pm Fredericks:

The first is my favorite. Smash Hits second.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm chresti:

Thanks Fabio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Carmichael:

I am indeed experienced.
  5:59pm Davey Gravy:

Great selections.
Avatar 5:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's perfect how the basic trilogy of completed studio albums unfolds - 4, 8, 16 trax - more or less...
Avatar 6:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

TY Fabio !
Avatar 6:00pm Bas NL:

Thanks Fabio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Guido from Cologne:

Fantastic dhow!
