MB, Do you have a gramaphone like Spacebrother Greg? Or what are playing these on?
Avatar 4:26pm
Otis Fodder:

Lovely music today in the background while playing setup. And yes, more loops of record runoffs, love that.
  4:26pm
Agent Spacegirl:

No words MB, No words..Just fabulous ness

Looking up Hadda Brooks. I had no idea!
  4:30pm
Martinibomb:

@Fab I do have an old Gramaphone but I am playing these off two Numark Pt01 with 78rpm needles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
Rich in Washington:

Not that I see a ton of them these days, but I sadly almost never look at 78s. Sort of scared I'll fall down the rabbit hole of having to buy those heavy kraft sleeves, build special shelves, start wearing tweed clothing, etc.
  4:31pm
Agent Spacegirl:

newcomb califone? What Player are you using?
  4:33pm
Martinibomb:

@AS actually I have a Victrola from I think 1922
  4:35pm
Agent Spacegirl:

Amazing!
Avatar 4:39pm
Mr Fab:

these last two were a couple of Lux n Ivy's faves.
Avatar 4:39pm
Otis Fodder:

@Rich - Same here, I bypass them (but love collections on digital/CD or vinyl comps). I have a friend who does not collect 7" in the same regard, the rabbit hole. Maybe someday, it is for sure a loving venture to fall into.
  4:40pm
Martinibomb:

@Rich and Otis ALL of my 78s are FREE stuff. I have friends at record stores and they'll call me and say we are goin' out of biz so come grab these 78s and I do. :-)
  4:41pm
Martinibomb:

78s are super fun to bring out to Birthday party's and family gathering type scenerios
Avatar 4:42pm
Otis Fodder:

I'm sure we have fans of Mac's Antique Phono Show on FMU. Another fav from over a decade back, wfmu.org...
Avatar 4:43pm
Otis Fodder:

@MB - In 1996, my stepmom's parents threw out a 78rpm collection, over 500 platters, free. Took them down to a local shop in Reno, Recycled Records and donated 'em. There was some great stuff in there, I think they made a buck or five.
  4:43pm
Martinibomb:

I always listened to Macs
Avatar 4:44pm
Mr Fab:

Oh yeah, I remember when Antique Phono Show ran back-to-back with Thomas Edison's Attic.
Avatar 4:44pm
Otis Fodder:

Me too, been listening to Mac's show off and on since the old Incorrect Music days (when we used to chat on the old bb forums pre-blog here).
  4:45pm
Martinibomb:

@Otis Yes we have no bananas today
Avatar 4:45pm
Mr Fab:

Don't know these last few 'billy sides, great stuff! Wonder if they've been comped anywhere?
Avatar 4:45pm
Otis Fodder:

I cannot confirm or deny The Old Codger is a DJ at WFMU, but I have listened to every show here. My favs of all the 78-realm shows.

Sorry for posting all the show links. Cross-linking to like shows for future and now listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Rich in Washington:

My brother and I did terrible things to a stack of 78s my mom had inherited from her mother. A lot of it was organ music and marches. We used to play them on our cheap portable record player, do things like lay a 7" record over the top of one so that when the needle hit the edge of the top record, it would be a locked groove loop. I remember once we left it playing, forgot, and it was still playing hours later.
Avatar 4:48pm
Mr Fab:

post away, Otis! there's no doubt some young 'uns here new to this whole crazy WFMU scene.
Avatar 4:48pm
Otis Fodder:

@Rich - Ha, fun!
Avatar 4:49pm
Otis Fodder:

@MB - I made the mistake of not eating pre-show the past two weeks and going 4 hours. Gonna run across the street and get a pizza. Back in 20-30min. Carry on my waywards platters son.
  5:09pm
Agent Spacegirl:

My head is spinning!!!! Great Job MB!
Avatar 5:10pm
Mr Fab:

This show has been magical
  5:11pm
Agent Spacegirl:

You nailed it Mr Fab.
Avatar 5:18pm
Mr Fab:

Yeah, there's something haunting about 78s. Like they're recordings of ghosts.
  5:19pm
Agent Spacegirl:

So much history in between the grooves.
Avatar 5:24pm
Otis Fodder:

non-dusty pizza & dusty platters mode at this moment.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm

There's a message in the music, Mr. Fab.
