Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

I’m feeling better this week. Looking forward to the show and should make it through without issue. Hope you’ve had a good week.
Avatar 9:14pm Little Danny:

Heya Matt! Thanks man, glad to hear you're bouncing back. Not my best week overall but I'm so stoked and relieved to be here now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Matt from New Orleans:

The summers are hard for me as I don’t feel like eating a lot but if I don’t eat enough protein I get brain fog. It doesn’t help when I also throw in a 10 mile round trip to and from my office. I just need to be more mindful of my eating, drinking water and sleeping. Everything has been out of whack for a bit. Some days I feel good and others real crappy and mostly somewhere in between. Today I had been feeling crappy but then ate a good lunch but I made four trips to the store on my bike to get ready for the storm headed this way so I ate a lot of protein at dinner and I’m feeling pretty good. It’s no fun getting older.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Matt from New Orleans:

10 mile round trip on my ebike I should add. It has been a lifesaver with this increased commute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’ve been grooving to this mix for the last 45 min or so
Avatar 10:00pm geezerette:

Everybody , scrimshaw!
Avatar 10:01pm coelacanth∅:

hey Danny; bleuets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm chresti:

Hey hey hey!
Avatar 10:02pm northguineahills:

I was going to say this reminded me of YMO.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Matt from New Orleans:

Hi Geezerette. I heard this recently on TWR either on the Lima Soul Club or Kevin Fingier show.
Avatar 10:03pm Little Danny:

Hi and hello everybody! Pushing furniture to the edges of the room right away
Avatar 10:03pm Flash Strap:

Hi Danny, Blue ones!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm doctorjazz:

Cool Tighten Up! Hi Flamers, and Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Matt from New Orleans:

Hey everyone
Avatar 10:04pm Hams:

"cool blue flame" would be a pretty rad crayon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Matt from New Orleans:

Psychedelic sally is a fave of mine
Avatar 10:04pm geezerette:

Hey,Matt, great isn't it? Tighten Up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm melinda:

hi blueberries
Avatar 10:05pm Little Danny:

Gettin' round to all now to hug and properly greet y'all: Matt, geez, coel, chresti, NGH, Flash, Ham, melinda. ALL THE BEST PEOPLE.

Avatar 10:07pm Little Danny:

Haha, Fleep. You too.
Avatar 10:08pm geezerette:

First time hearing "Runnin' and Foolin'", love it!
Avatar 10:10pm Little Danny:

@Matt: thanks for the tip on that mix up top. Will check out
Avatar 10:12pm geezerette:

Yusef, :)
Avatar 10:12pm Little Danny:

Ladies and gents, the balloon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm chresti:

I wonder if the Lips did the song, Dangerous Drivers.
Avatar 10:13pm Little Danny:

They were actually all truck drivers, the Drivers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm chresti:

Wow fantastic! The balloon
Avatar 10:14pm coelacanth∅:

(as opposed to golf clubs)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’m a mixcloud addict as it allows me to discover so much music. I’ve really been loving this South African musician named Shamrock Guitor. A few of the uploaders I follow are big fans of his and turned me into one. This is his most recent album(his second) plus 2 EPs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’m enjoying the sounds they’re creating on this track.
Avatar 10:16pm geezerette:

So funny. Nothing is better than love and humor.
Avatar 10:16pm coelacanth∅:

i have a 20-something minute piece of many people doing noisy and often suggestive things with balloons. i won't take credit for it's composition; i just recorded it.
Avatar 10:18pm coelacanth∅:

(although the act of me starting to record it did make people ham it up a bit)
Avatar 10:20pm coelacanth∅:

i like that album title, "unapologetic african sounds"
  10:22pm Carmichael:

Heya Danny and Flamers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm doctorjazz:

O'Farrill, very cool!
Avatar 10:23pm northguineahills:

@coel: Suggestive Balloons is my Nena karaoke tribute band....

Or, improv artist Judy Dunway does nicely to make music w/ balloons solo, or in groups...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm fleep:

Another best people!
Avatar 10:25pm coelacanth∅:

hey Carmichael
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Matt from New Orleans:

And the title is accurate C. I saw Chico and variations of large ensembles many times in my 20s.
Avatar 10:25pm coelacanth∅:

ngh really?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Matt from New Orleans:

I like how the song title is his name backwards.
Avatar 10:27pm coelacanth∅:

to be honest, only a few people were being suggestive with their balloons. it was very much more about the sound being created.
Avatar 10:28pm geezerette:

Ha! Didn't notice that!
Avatar 10:28pm Little Danny:

Not sure what this distortion is. Ugh. Sorry, gimme a sec
  10:29pm Dean:

Zenitram sounds like some kind of high cholesterol or blood pressure medicine.
Avatar 10:29pm coelacanth∅:

furball on the stylus?
Avatar 10:30pm northguineahills:

@coel: I only do karaoke if I'm plied w/ copious amounts of soju in K-town.
Avatar 10:31pm Little Danny:

@coel: I am blowing frantically on all styli and connections as I speak!
Avatar 10:32pm Little Danny:

I just got that joke, Dean. Hey pal
  10:33pm Dean:

Words and grams are fun!
Avatar 10:34pm coelacanth∅:

Dean, so does hydralazine
Avatar 10:36pm Little Danny:

Just no puns here please. Sorry Doug.
Avatar 10:36pm coelacanth∅:

something you did seemed to work Danny -sounds good
  10:37pm Dean:

I think I know people who take hydralazine, but I don't know anybody whose name is Enizalardyh. For a while in the '70s I was hooked on magazine.
  10:37pm Dean:

Apologies. Pun.
Avatar 10:37pm northguineahills:

Ok, time to make waffle tacos de helados!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Matt from New Orleans:

Sounds good ngh
Avatar 10:38pm geezerette:

NGH, yum! What flavor?
Avatar 10:39pm coelacanth∅:

enizagam? (am i slow or what...)
Avatar 10:39pm northguineahills:

I have moose track ice cream in the freezer (I left my ice cream maker in Brooklyn).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Matt from New Orleans:

Same length actually Danny on promo single/album
  10:40pm Dean:

I swear, every third week or so I think the crickets are outside my window. I listen on a crappy Chromebook, not the real system, and I'm usually standing at my kitchen counter with a window behind me. Had to close the pop-up to make sure the crickets weren't local.
Avatar 10:41pm coelacanth∅:

there's a song in there, "i left my ice cream maker in brooklyn"
Avatar 10:42pm Hams:

pancho sanchez would always play at this jazz cafe up the street from me when i lived in fullerton, ca. when i was working at the pawn shop a few doors down.
  10:43pm Dean:

Wow, Hams, which jazz cafe? I kinda know Fullerton. (Shoot, listener rw lives there!)
Avatar 10:49pm Hams:

ah, it was on west commonwealth ave. doesn't look like it's there anymore. neither is commonwealth jewelry & loan.that's when i was 20, around 2003. dated a girl at that cafe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm Matt from New Orleans:

It won’t be very dry here over the next few days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Matt from New Orleans:

Weird. Dead air for a bit there.
Avatar 10:51pm Little Danny:

Oof. Again with the tech. That was my computer freezing.

From the top now!
Avatar 10:52pm Hams:

dean, it was called steamers cafe, that's it!
  10:52pm Carmichael:

Heya Coel. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm doctorjazz:

The Red Curson was hot! Saw him years back.
Now, gotta get me to bed, kinda pooped.
Avatar 10:53pm coelacanth∅:

the past month or more has actually been a good ratio of sunshine to rain, in regard to the garden here.
raining here now, fairly heavily since around 5.
  10:53pm Dean:

So close to where I have spent many days visiting my parents from about 1990! My dad passed away in 2010, but she remained there at Beach and Imperial. (Now she's up here, three blocks from us.)

Oh, hell, yeah. Steamers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm doctorjazz:

...Ted Cuts in, of course.
My sound just went dead.
  10:55pm Dean:

I dig J&MC, but the one time I saw them (Hollywood Palladium, '80s) they were not loud enough.
Avatar 10:55pm Little Danny:

Thanks for checking that Matt, but I think the Curson LP version was 2x as long at 4:36. My 45 sez 2:40
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Matt from New Orleans:

Weird the discogs listing for the promo 45 says 4:36
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Matt from New Orleans:

That’s the only 45 listed for him
Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Ignore Function:

Great first hour, LD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Matt from New Orleans:

The picture of the 45 does say 2:40 which seems odd for whomever added that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm chresti:

I think I was there @Dean
Avatar 11:00pm Little Danny:

Thank you Ignore! Love when you pop up here
Avatar 11:00pm coelacanth∅:

i've been into jesus and mary chain lately, and trying to get the munki album into the 1/2 price section on the jukebox at the pub by playing 2-4 songs from it every time i go there. (if there's no band)
Avatar 11:00pm Hams:

yeah, i spent a brief little stint there, year & a 1/2. it was my first time away from home, all the way from georgia. something about that time -- being young, taking the bus or my bike everywhere, working at the pawn shop, california -- was pretty special.
Avatar 11:02pm Little Danny:

Been absolutely surf-crazy this summer. There'll likely be more in coming weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm doctorjazz:

Shades out In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida!
Ok, no longer needed here, bye all
Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Ignore Function:

Surf insanity should be encouraged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm chresti:

Super show LD!
  11:05pm Dean:

I've always appreciated Fullerton and environs. Yeah, it's OC, "conservative," call it what you want, but I'm now in Berkeley, and it ain't exactly progressive heaven. A buddy of mine, an accomplished filmmaker, lives there. Went to college in Orange at Chapman. He's amazingly creative, disciplined, poised to keep doing great work. I suspect every town in America has folks like him.
Avatar 11:05pm Little Danny:

@doc: totally!

Avatar 11:06pm coelacanth∅:

thank you, doctor
Avatar 11:09pm Little Danny:

Ah, thanks Chresti!
  11:13pm Dean:

Dick Hyman (still kicking and barely two months older than my mom) is a treasure. I have his complete Joplin rags LP box set. A joy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Matt from New Orleans:

This song is reminding me that I heard three separate radio shows within 24 hours last Thursday/Friday with a space theme due to Apollo 11 anniversary and over 7 hours I don’t think I heard more than 4 repeats.
Avatar 11:16pm Little Danny:

@Dean: Hyman definitely forged his own path. Glad to hear he's still kickin'
Avatar 11:16pm geezerette:

"Moon Gas" was an eye opener! Glad he's in good shape!
Avatar 11:18pm Little Danny:

@Matt: GOOD. I strive for space-age exploration even if it's only inadvertently timed
Avatar 11:18pm geezerette:

LD, telepathy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm Matt from New Orleans:

I think I first heard Dick Hyman on Beck’s Odelay
Avatar 11:18pm Little Danny:

"Moon Gas" is such a cool, fun, good album, geez!
  11:19pm dano59:

Wow. Sitar tabla and a Brit ... I like it
Avatar 11:20pm Little Danny:

Three things that often go together, Dano59. Hey bud!
Avatar 11:22pm geezerette:

Diverse & harmonious set!
Avatar 11:23pm Little Danny:

Thanks geez! It's something I strive for, occasionally achieve
Avatar 11:23pm Franco Twinkie:

Hey Danny, et all. I was out been the hunter/gatherer. Plums, apricots, coffee filters and tacos. Now I can trip.
  11:27pm Carmichael:

Franco, you have a taco tree?!?
  11:27pm dano59:

Connecting all the dots across the spectra for my love of the Animals and the Quiet Beatle too
Avatar 11:28pm Little Danny:

Dang, Franco, I could subsist for weeks on those 4 items. If you sub coffee for coffee filters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Matt from New Orleans:

Putting my electronics down but will keep listening. Have a great night everyone.
Avatar 11:29pm Franco Twinkie:

Dean, You'll be glad to see The Los Angeles Times food section today. It's about eating Mexican junk food in the OC, written by a native son, Gustavo Arellano.
Swag For Life Member 11:30pm Ignore Function:

Stay safe, Matt.
Avatar 11:30pm geezerette:

Matt, you too.
  11:31pm dano59:

Oh, the fuzz! The harmonies! Farfisa? Mind blowing
Avatar 11:32pm Franco Twinkie:

Geez, Moon Gas has been reissued on vinyl.
  11:32pm dano59:

Franco, yes. Add coffee, banana leaves and biegnets and yr all set
  11:32pm Dean:

I'll check it out, Franco, but I have a hard time (as with so many things) with food writing. It usually utterly misses the point and makes me want to gag. But OC Mexican? Yeah, I'd like to learn more.
Avatar 11:33pm Franco Twinkie:

The Dick Hyman record to look for is The Minotaur.
Avatar 11:35pm Franco Twinkie:

Gustavo is your man then.
Avatar 11:35pm geezerette:

Franco, thanks!
And my sweetie just came back from hunting and gathering too. Summer fruit is the best!
  11:35pm Dean:

I'm a fan of Molcasalsa on Whittier Blvd. just west of Beach, and Castanedas on Beach just south of Beach. The old Los Sanchez empire was *sublime*, but it appears to have morphed into something else.
  11:36pm Dean:

Er, ^just south of Whittier.
Avatar 11:37pm Franco Twinkie:

Geez, I bought 3lb, of Blenheim apricots. Peaches can wait.
Avatar 11:38pm geezerette:

Dean, Franco's right, Arellano knows his stuff.
  11:38pm Dean:

This "hunting/gathering" shit is starting to me to sound like cultural appropriation. Check your privilege, folks.
  11:39pm dano59:

Dick's daughter Judy, a fantastic violinist, lives in the same town as the original Moog factory
Avatar 11:39pm Franco Twinkie:

Dean I said it before, I'll say it again....Shaddup!
  11:41pm Dean:

My take is that food writers have the worst jobs in the world. I smell it in their work. They resent (as would I) having to write about fundamental, ordinary, essential behaviors. Most food writers can't handle it.

Thanks, Franco.
Avatar 11:41pm Hams:

the taqueria i would always go to on valencia dr. in fullerton is still there, taqueria de anda. the first & only time i had a cow tongue taco. not junk food.
Avatar 11:42pm geezerette:

Dean, am I offending my more than likely Neanderthal ancestors?
Avatar 11:44pm Franco Twinkie:

Dean, I'm beside myself laughing, I'll have you know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm chresti:

Franco is the ultimate modern hunter gatherer, from an early age.
  11:46pm Dean:

Yes, geezerette, not least because you so blithely co-opt their posture vis-a-vis their world.

I'm done. I can't do "vis-a-vis" more than once a day.
Avatar 11:47pm Franco Twinkie:

Truce...until the next time, that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm chresti:

He learned it from his elders, Franco did
Avatar 11:49pm Little Danny:

Dean is consistently deep, insightful, weird and irritating. I love him.
  11:50pm Carmichael:

If I met Dean, I would head butt him. Then hug him. Or the other way around.
  11:50pm dano59:

Dean ... I just read a nice appreciation of MFK Fisher ... the paragon of sensuous food writers.
I grew up with more practical wild game and Good Housekeeping cookbooks in the house along w. the likes of James Beard, Graham Kerr and Vincent Price
  11:51pm Carmichael:

Franco had me at “tacos”.
Avatar 11:53pm Franco Twinkie:

Oh yeah, me too! He's a brilliant guy. No doubt about it. He is the hyper intelligent version of a guy that likes to start bar fights just for fun.
Avatar 11:53pm Little Danny:

@Dean: tho Franco's use of hunter/gatherer in this context is NOT cultural appropriation you jerk
  11:54pm Dean:

I'm digging the love, truly. Nobody ever called me irritating, but I know damn well I can be.

dano59: You hit the nail on the head. There are exceptions, among them Fisher and Elizabeth David. I also admire some of David Rosengarten's work. For me, these exceptions prove a rule.
  11:55pm dano59:

We're all hunter-gatherers. That even encompasses welfare checks and Dollar Stores
Avatar 11:55pm Hams:

i shot three dove one time.
  11:56pm Carmichael:

99 cent store. Dollar tree us too expensive.
  11:56pm Dean:

I am not sure there is such a thing as cultural appropriation. I was joking.
  11:59pm dano59:

Ya got me! I did feel yr comment on "progressive heaven" tho. Not what they're cracked up to be, bubble towns
Avatar 11:59pm geezerette:

Dean, how silly.
And I love M.F.K. Fisher and Beard. :)
Avatar 11:59pm Franco Twinkie:

Elizabeth David was great a writer...to bad her recipes are not.
Avatar 12:02am Hams:

i grew up watching justin wilson. he was great.
Avatar 12:02am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Danny!
'night y'all
  12:02am Dean:

David's recipes are perfect!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am chresti:

  12:03am Carmichael:

I love all of you.
Swag For Life Member 12:03am Ignore Function:
