This sounds like something from a lonesome 70s film soundtrack. I like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Ken From Hyde Park:

Would like to see the look in DJ Joe's face with a brand-new 45 and no detectable surface noise to be found.

  9:32am Brendan:

Just recently watched Point Blank (1967). Lee was a cool toughie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Linda Lee:

that material didn't seem to suit Leonard Cohen at all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Kudubundu:

I hated this Lee Marvin track so much when I was 16! Now I love it so much. How I have changed eh? PS The local record manufacturer dumped a few thousand copies of this 7" on our rubbish dump in 1970 and I happily enjoyed trashing the lot with my "cool" friends. Now I deeply regret it. I didn't even keep one copy for posterity. Sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Linda Lee:

i was confused.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Linda Lee:

a sad story indeed, Kudubundu. we do change, though, thankfully!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Kudubundu:

I do actually feel sad right now, I know the show today will cheer me up though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Linda Lee:

don't forget that when you keep treasures for 40 years they also have to be stored. sometimes they have to be moved.

  9:44am Listener Alexandra:

Good morning, Joe!
  9:45am Brendan:

‘Stones’ got me thinking about similes and metaphors. A web crawl yielded a very nice pop song https://youtu.be/uoSBVNUO2LU . Give it a listen sometime Joe!

Then , get this. Per grammarly.com , “...metaphors directly state a comparison—‘Love is a battlefield.’ “ Whoa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Kudubundu:

Thank you @Linda Lee and Joe. :-)
Avatar 9:47am Brian in UK:

Hy Joe

@Brendan Point Blank is as cool as it gets. Lee Marvin, a hero on screen and in real life.
Avatar 9:47am Joe McG:

@Brendan: Thanks, Brendan. I read this book years ago called "Metaphors We Live By" and it left a big impression on me. @Alexandra: You're up early, Alex!

How did they get a pipe organ in here?
Avatar 9:53am Brian in UK:

Daddy, what's a typewriter?
Swag For Life Member 9:53am tadpoles:

Very neat Joe. The Dadaists would be proud. I think Brian Eno also used a typewriter as an instrument on a track.
Avatar 9:53am Joe McG:

@Brian: Ha ha ha. At least they can be musical instruments now. Tom Hanks collects them!
  9:54am tak:

got a buddy uses a cash register on his mechatechno duet
  9:54am Brendan:

Thanks Joe, thats a good endorsement- I’ll give it a read. I ‘m sorry I didn’t give similes equal time so here’s a cringeworthy one. ‘Fly like an eagle’.
Avatar 9:55am fred:

I vaguely remember another typewriter ensemble from earlier WFMU shows. From Africa I think. But I can't remember the country

These are a hoot.

Yeah, actually my first experience of hearing easy-listening Sex Pistols (aside from their own satiric effort) was from a band playing to amuse a seaside patio brunch crowd in Brighton around the year 2000. It caused a little shock of recognition that (a) those songs had actually been around awhile by then, and (b) sure, that can be done to any song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am adampsyche:

Wasn't their last song a No Fun cover? www.rollingstone.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Rich in Washington:

@Roberto: there's at least one disco cover of a Pistols' track that was within a year or two of the album coming out, and not made by anyone affiliated with them (Malcom, et al).

any song by Joan Jett makes me happy...

Must people always assume that someone has died whenever a DJ plays a bunch of songs by or ade famous by an artist! Just because Joe played a few Joao Gilberto songs earlier... Oh, wait.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am adampsyche:

@Asheville not that I've heard but that didn't stop Station Manager Ken from opening a set with like 17 covers of No Fun and as far as I know Iggy Pop lives
