On a recent road trip in Texas I saw that they had digital signs along the highway admonishing people to drive safely by posting how many people had died on the roads this year, and it was upwards of 1300. If that many people are dying there is something wrong with the system, not just individuals.

Franco there is always a whitefly condition with the laurels here, but not on much else.
the hibiscus has what looks like a 1/3-1/4 size version of a firefly (why i thought of it) but it flies much faster and i doubt it glows. never seen these before; and they're eating the hibiscus, along with japanese beetles and various caterpillars.

The reputation of Holst's Planets has been diluted, alas. It is truly an amazing orchestral work. Much of Holst deserves to be heard more widely.

I subscribed for years to New American Writing, but he didn't do a great job of notifying us about renewals, so the subscription lapsed a couple years ago.
