A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

This is really beautiful. There's so many things I want to do today being that it's my day off, so I will be in and out of chat. Your music is always so lovely. I haven't been able to be on here due to work for several months. Lixiviated Life thanks for your kind words. You too Cmurtha. *Trouble, they were just on Wake n Bake with me.

Glad you liked it linda and no need to thank me Buddha I hope your day off goes as well as it possıbly can

Avatar 9:23am northguineahills:

@LL: outside of a dermatologist, I haven't seen a doctor or dentist in 14 years. I live in a third world country where health care is either costly, or, frowned upon taking you away from your job.....
  9:23am Peter in SEA:

Oh, yeah! And the boy's in NYC today! I'll tell him to listen live, do kids have radios in their apts. these days?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Linda Lee:

@ngh ~ i hear you. i feel i live in one too, frankly. it's been about 25 years for me, with one dentist's visit that i should've avoided!
Avatar 9:26am northguineahills:

I was just listening to the French History podcast, earlier, and thought it started again, then I remembered I was listening to Trouble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Linda Lee:

i'm not sure i'd come back at all, Cmurtha. this isn't a very nice place to live atm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Cmurtha:

I have class to teach, and my visa runs out, and my family wants to go on a vacation with me to SF since I was not able to go to germany with them last summer due to the research so I can
t stay here, and as NGH points out ther are issues here too, though, I at least everyone is fairly open and honest about what is going down in Turkey whereas people don't want to, or just can't recognize how deep America's decline was and is
Avatar 9:32am northguineahills:

@Peter in SEA: I listen to WFMU in my car via the phone app in FL....
Avatar 9:33am TDK60:

Linda Lee & NGH: I'm an atheist too, thank God!
  9:33am Peter in SEA:

Just started Machines Like Me, the new Ian McEwan novel, so far (70 pp) it's a bit like that show Humans that I couldn't get past ep. 2, but I'm hoping since it's McEwan it might get better? Anyone read it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Cmurtha:

Though when I get back to the states, I may go and badger my awful, awful governor, not that he'll care
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Linda Lee:

@Cmurtha ~ absolutely right! there's a very clear reason for it, as well. we've got to be the most thoroughly & successfully engineered society in the history of the earth.
i'm only thankful this earth isn't binary. there are choices.
Avatar 9:35am Diezel Tea:

In other news, I met the president of San Jose State University a couple hours ago. She's a peach.
Avatar 9:35am Dances with Moomins:

Greetings to Ms. Trouble and the Moderns; near and far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Phillippe Bastille:

@Cmurtha where are you at? My only exposure to Turkey was 10 days is Diyarbikir back in the days of the Kurds and Turks "disquiet". Armed guards at the front door of the hotel. And the radio sucked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Linda Lee:

it truly shocked me that a friend of mine, who's gone expat in scotland very successfully, tells me any idea i may have of living outside the US is a 'non-starter'. just a foolish & stupid idea. personally i think she's been too long in scotland.
Avatar 9:37am meredith:

Morning all. Happy to be listening live instead of in dreadful staff meetings.

@Peter in SEA: I really like Ian McEwan usually. I will have to check that book out. I've not seen it yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am sphere:

@ Peter in SEA

Well, science fiction has been dealing with the issues in McEwan's novel for decades so I'm probably not going to pick it up.
Avatar 9:37am TDK60:

..but music often makes me feel spiritual.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Cmurtha:

@Phillipe I was in Istanbul for a most of the year, I am in Ankara now till July, I don't know if I will venture outside of Ankara for a weekend/day trip, but I may do Konya.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Linda Lee:

i'm simply not seeing a very happy future here for someone like myself. i'm of very low commercial value!
Avatar 9:39am TDK60:

Avatar 9:39am Trouble:

thanks to listener passaic river blues for hipping me to this:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am sphere:

@ Linda Lee - I'm a technical writer, so I'd have to start all over with other languages. I can choose the UK, Ireland, or here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Linda Lee:

@TDK60 ~ no, don't think so. Scotland isn't part of it.
Avatar 9:41am βrian:

Rarely do we have such gloriously beautiful weather as today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Phillippe Bastille:

Ah. we overnighted in Ankara but didn't see much. Only short layovers in Istanbul, unfortunately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Linda Lee:

@sphere ~ of the 3 i might choose ireland, at this point ~ though with brexit, who knows!
  9:42am kevlicki:

Morning trouble! I worked in 5 consecutive rainy Sunday markets. Thankfully there’s been a break in that the last couple weeks. It’ll break!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Phillippe Bastille:

LL if you can't live abroad, you can live in Faux France like I do.
Avatar 9:43am TDK60:

I thought it was "Danny the Red" -a German! ('68-Paris)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Linda Lee:

Faux France! :-) is that virtual?
Avatar 9:44am Dances with Moomins:

@Linda Lee, It's all possible to move away from USA but without job Visa or marriage/family connection it is not easy. Also much more closely monitored, folks up tight about 'foreigners' everywhere ( and Americans are foreigners except at home ) I've been in Finland 22 years. Everyday is an adventure ( when you don't understand every word that's spoken !) I like looking at USA from a distance
Avatar 9:45am TDK60:

"Faux France" is Quebec, oui?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Linda Lee:

@Dances with Moomins ~ i do appreciate hearing from the outside world! definitely not thinking europe, personally, as i'd need to make US dollars stretch, not shrink. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Cmurtha:

@Phillipe if you know Turkish Istanbul is a wonderful city, Ankara is also nice, though Ankara is "boring" so say most people, though it has all the stuff Istanbul has minus the historical stuff (though it does have that too), and its got parks and logical roads which Istanbul really does not have.
I am always mad my mother didn't get her nonsense I have relatives from Ireland irish citizenship locked in, because her not doing that prevents me from getting it easily.
Avatar 9:46am βrian:

And wouldn't it be Fausse France, anyway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Linda Lee:

that's what i thought first, TDK60, but i do believe Phillippe is in Maryland. :-)
Avatar 9:48am βrian:

@Phillippe Bastille: Not Saint Pierre and Miquelon, is it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Linda Lee:

i'd better shift off this mattress or i'm not going anywhere. cheers, all! thanks for company!
  9:50am Daybreak and the...huh?:

What a treat to be able to dip into “This is the Modern World” live as I take a quick breakfast break between student papers. This Ahmed is so lovely I felt my cortisol levels slide down as he played. Good pick Trouble!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Cmurtha:

I've thought about going to Canada, but, I know that Canada is just America with a nicer face, and when America gets nationalistic so too does Canada. 'Its okay that we continue to genocide natives we call them first nations people unlike you american savages, its okay that we are racist as all get up at least we didn't have the same kind of slavery you did american savages

This is cool. Shades of Faces/Stewart/Harrison
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Cmurtha:

That is mean I have enjoyed canada every time I've gone, but, I do wish our existence didn't let them be delusional about their problems
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Phillippe Bastille:

@TDK my Faux France is far more fauxier
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Phillippe Bastille:

@Brian Purely in my head, unfortunately.

Kev, didn't Mick Jagger visit the barricades to sort of show his support and keep everyone's spirits up (and up his radical bona fides)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Phillippe Bastille:

@TDK60 I love New Orleans, but I'm in Annapolis. I adored my time in Paris, and really liked the Parisienne lifestyle. I walk to the market frequently for the day's groceries, used to drink a lot of wine with meals until I started abusing it. I even have a signed picture of Audrey Tautou in my office.

@sugarwolf: reading the letters to the editor or, heaven forfend, the online comments section of any article in any newspaper in the United States is like staring directly into our collective disordered and diseased mind. It is a soul-crushing exercise.

I think the next set of grading will be a majority of phone-ins. However, I always look forward to the genuine articles, of which there are bound to be more than long sets of grading make you expect.

@TDK60, plan a trip to the Wizard.
The journey to that charlatan will remind you that you largely already have what ya need and have WFMU listeners/glisteners as your companions. Plus you can blame any clumsiness on those damned invisible flying monkeys we all are always dodging.
