Listener comments!

  4:00pm Martinibomb:

Starting with a surf/exotica vibe then heading into the Nortwest Territory for some Noise by Northwest a collection of underground experimental music from 1990s Portland, Oregon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Otis Fodder:

Little baby ducks. Pickup trucks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Running around hanging up laundry and looking forward to the vibe that only Martinibomb can provide! :-)
  4:01pm Martinibomb:

This doesn't sound like the Shaggs to me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Martinibomb: so i am not losing my mind… in THAT way
  4:02pm Martinibomb:

I wonder if I should email Fab?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Have I hopped aboard the Duane Train again?
  4:03pm Martinibomb:

Hahah here it is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Jan Turkenburg:

It can't hurt, MB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Otis Fodder:

Here we go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Ah, there we go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There we go :-)
Avatar 4:03pm spacebrother:

The Shaggs always make me so happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Jan Turkenburg:

Ah, problem solved :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

there's a special spot that only The Shaggs can hit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Jan Turkenburg:

That's right GST!
  4:04pm Martinibomb:

Yeah this song is especially cool I think for some reason. Ilike the harmony on this one a ton
Avatar 4:05pm spacebrother:

I love onions too!
  4:06pm Martinibomb:

Hey SB! how's everything on your end
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Laundry done - time to stretch out and vibe out :-)
Avatar 4:08pm spacebrother:

In editing hell for my radio job right now. Using GG and your shows to procrastiate elegantly.
  4:08pm Martinibomb:

Fair warning. We're getting to some Noise territory later. Totally get that's not some people's cup o tea. But it's kinda the scene that I kinda came out of music wise. There were these series of experimental nights where you could do anything onstage for a number of years in pdx. great community it was fun
  4:09pm Martinibomb:

@SB still in Protools for all of that? Just curious about your workflow cause I like that kinda thing hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Well, I'm gonna do my usual and do part of your show but then catch up with the rest tomorrow while cooking, so a bit of Noise will help that process :-)
  4:11pm Martinibomb:

Okay GG! Thanks for the great show today that was awesome and happy early birthday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Enjoying it hugely so far :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Otis Fodder:

Lookin' forward to further new wednesday happenings soon.
Avatar 4:13pm spacebrother:

@MB No protools any more. My post-production job provided that for years. Now reduced to Audacity. Do you know of software with good noise filtering?
  4:13pm Martinibomb:

I'm going to get into this thing about Lalo and T.H.E. Cat and The Cat later...
  4:14pm Martinibomb:

@Otis is that next week?
Avatar 4:14pm spacebrother:

...that is cheap or free?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Otis Fodder:

@MB - Had hoped it was happening this week. Looking forward as it will help me with work. Hopefully soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep no idea on the changes either :-( Soon I hope!! More fun!! :-)
Avatar 4:17pm spacebrother:

First time I've heard theremin used as a siren effect!
  4:19pm Martinibomb:

@SB Reaper has noise filter .. pretty good software essentially free
Avatar 4:20pm spacebrother:

@SB- Thanks!
  4:21pm Martinibomb:

Reaper - Remove Background noise.. type that in Youtube and check a tutorial
Avatar 4:22pm spacebrother:

I might steal this Shannon track for my conspiracy show next Monday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Rich in Washington:

I love Reaper. I've been using it for years.
  4:22pm Martinibomb:

Please do! I thought it was perfect for something like that but didn't really have enough tracks to do anything
  4:23pm Martinibomb:

@RIW I love Reaper as well. I find it super configurable so it's easier on my hands.. just less clicks easier to zoom in out etc..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Rich in Washington:

Hi again, y'all!
Been listening the whole time. Just realized suddenly that the lunch I thought I had in the fridge was imaginary all this time. Had to run to get some grub.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Jan Turkenburg:

Lol, Rich, I know those imaginary lunches, snacks, drinks, etc....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - ugh!!! I hate that!! When you're salivating for something that turns out not to exist. been there. :-(
  4:24pm Martinibomb:

Also I love that Reaper is made by the same guy who made WinAmp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Rich in Washington:

Phantom lunch syndrome!
  4:25pm Martinibomb:

@Otis by the way Morricone Island just did a mix of Cat music a week or two ago that was pretty fun. Where this T.H.E. Cat issue came up for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Jan Turkenburg:

mmmm, I just went to reaper's website. Looks like something I ought to dig into as well. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Rich in Washington:

I thought I had a big chicken biryani I'd made over the weekend in the fridge but I had forgotten that I'd finished it!
  4:27pm Martinibomb:

@Jan I love it' great piece of software. Small.. just really well put together ya know what I mean? And reasonable. It's free until you feel like paying for it which is only $60.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Rich in Washington:

truth told, I have never bought a license for Reaper. It just gives a gentle reminder upon startup. I don't think I've missed whatever feature that the license unlocks. It's really good. I probably should buy it, but I don't use it much these days.
  4:30pm Martinibomb:

IT's the full program. He doesn't lock anything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

What's Audacity vs Reaper like? I use Audacity currently, but always up for new things :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

KITES ARE FUN!!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4:30pm Martinibomb:

I gave him money cause I want him to keep making it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

" R is for Robert Loggia ... O is for Oh my God it's Robert Loggia ..." ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Shannon and the Clams are playing Burger Boogaloo this summer!
  4:32pm Martinibomb:

@GG It's hard to compare Audacity vs Reaper because Reaper is a much bigger program and highly configurable. which should scare u tho because it's really easy to use at the same time. No harm in trying it out.. see how you like it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Rich in Washington:

Reaper's a bit more like a Pro-Tools type of production suite. You can easily multitrack stuff, apply effects and processes on an envelope. It sort of reminds me of video production software in the way you can manipulate tracks. You can also automate track levels on multitrack projects.
  4:32pm Martinibomb:

@GRanny whaaaaaa for real oh my gawd
  4:33pm Martinibomb:

@GG I mean't shouldn't scare you. ug.. bad typo
Avatar 4:33pm Mr Fab:

Hey all, I'm off work today, so my schedule's off. i tuned in as the Shaggs were coming on,and thought it was the stream up all the way up until Martinibomb started talking! Was so confused, like: why is someone talking now..?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The envelopes on Audacity are pretty clunky so I may have to try Reaper for a bit :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Rich in Washington:

Burger Boogalo seems to always happen during me and my sweetie's anniversary weekend. Was really tempted to go last year, but couldn't do it.
  4:34pm Martinibomb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mr Fab!!! Hey!!! We missed you!! :-)
  4:34pm Martinibomb:

@GG much better envelope control in reaper. I have a real simple way I do it
  4:35pm Martinibomb:

@GG go slow with Reaper just trying converting audio and editing small things in it for awhile until you kinda get used to it over trying to produce something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - ok! I like tinkering :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Rich in Washington:

I love Audacity for simple editing and for ripping records (its export labels feature is amazing!) and its ID4 tagging is really good. I probably use Audacity most. I do like the stripped down early version of Adobe Audition called Soundbooth if I want to do some fancy noise reduction/restoration/dynamic tweaking.
Avatar 4:37pm Mr Fab:

Ha, thanks! Not at work today, running around doing fun stuff, but will try to keep heaadphones on as much as possible
  4:38pm Martinibomb:

I use Reaper in the way Rich uses Audacity hahah. I still do a ton in Ableton live
  4:40pm Martinibomb:

@Rich u know you can import cds/rip/tag in Reaper right? And it's pretty good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Rich in Washington:

This clip is great. Kenneth Copeland is a creep.
  4:42pm Martinibomb:

oh my gawd a super total Creep-a-sauresrex!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Rich in Washington:

I haven't done that yet. I don't rip a lot of CDs. I do rip a lot of records and cassette tapes.
  4:42pm Martinibomb:

I like how he tries to intimidate her later in this interview when things aren't going his way.
Avatar 4:43pm spacebrother:

I also need to switch music environments now that itunes is being phased out. I need a management system and transcoding ability. Any suggestions?
  4:44pm Martinibomb:

I'm loving Music-Bee right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Rich in Washington:

He keeps calling journalist Lisa Guerrero 'honey' and 'baby'. Such a creep. Anyone who gives him their money deserves to be ripped off, though.
  4:44pm Martinibomb:

AIMP is equally as good. Otis uses AIMP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Rich in Washington:

Yes. I would happily find an itunes alternative. I just use it for organization and it kind of sucks. I rarely use it for playing music, honestly.
  4:45pm Martinibomb:

@Rich I sorta feel this way about people who buy from pet stores/puppy farms. They deserve to get ripped off.. but at the same time they are helping support true evil
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Rich in Washington:

ah. AIMP is just windows and android.
  4:46pm Martinibomb:

I just use itunes for transferring my MusicBee playlists to my iPad
  4:46pm Martinibomb:

you can use WineBottler Rich if you're on a mac
  4:47pm Martinibomb:

just package .exe as a self contained WINE app that runs on OSX.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yes! I thought of you all when they announced the iTunes thing - cos we had that conversation about music documenting and organising.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Jan Turkenburg:

Just returned to the controls... Ah, I recognize the drug dazed lunatic ...
  4:49pm Martinibomb:

PC side seems to have the best music library apps right now.So I've got MusicBee running on my Mac using winebottler
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Jan Turkenburg:

There are people less crazy than he that are locked up in psych wards for years...
  4:50pm Martinibomb:

I have to remix these bastards It's just my way of dealing with this stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You always put me in a good mood :-)
  4:57pm Martinibomb:

Well thanks DJ GG.. I wasn't sure if you'd be in to this set or not. Glad you're finding it interesting so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's fabulous! I wish I could mix like this :-)
  5:00pm Martinibomb:

I ran youtube through ableton live and put a bit reducer fx and some delay on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Jan Turkenburg:

I like the way you're dealing with this, MB I do this sometimes too, this encourages me to do it more often.
  5:01pm Martinibomb:

Heh Heh Thank you Jan! I think it's therapeutic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Jan Turkenburg:

It certainly is, it also makes me feel more confident about some mixes I already made for my fiirt three FDL-episodes here.
  5:04pm Martinibomb:

I'd like to see spotify do what I just did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My traditional halfway point! Going to catch up with the rest tomorrow during cooking :-) Fantastic show and thanks for a lovely day here in the jungle room :-)
  5:05pm Martinibomb:

It's a little tough to put yourself out there like that Jan but I think Wfmu is the kind of the place that accepts that way of making things.
  5:06pm Martinibomb:

Okay GG! Cya later Thanks for listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Ah, the classic spooky organ from The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.
  5:28pm Martinibomb:

Vic Mizzy! You can do no better than an organ lick from the master
  5:29pm Martinibomb:

I love all that is Mizzy. heh
  5:29pm Martinibomb:

I also love Don Knotts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks MB, will check out the Morricone Island CAT show.
  5:32pm Martinibomb:

It's right up your alley, cat!
Avatar 5:36pm Mr Fab:

Don Knotts was my avatar of my old blog. TV comedy is so bland nowadays, it doesn't seem to produce these one-of-a-kind oddballs like Knotts, Jim Backus, Jim Nabors, Herman and Grandpa Munster, Huggie Bear, Lurch, etc. Dont 'get me started!
  5:37pm Martinibomb:

..Andy Kaufman
  5:37pm Martinibomb:

Maybe the issue is everyone is Andy Kaufman now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Otis Fodder:

Wow, DJ Brokenwindow, haven't heard that name in years.
David Chandler from Solenoid and Office Products... nice!
  5:39pm Martinibomb:

Yup! he's a friend. He'll be on the show at some point some day ....
  5:40pm Martinibomb:

lives pretty close so it'll be ez to have him on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Otis Fodder:

Nice, PDX scene represent. Shared a gig with Office Products years back in Seattle and played alongside David at a Subgenius Devival at EJs in 1998.
  5:45pm Martinibomb:

Oh I remember that Subgenius thing I couldn't go for some reason. I miss EJs. So many good shows there for such a dive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Otis Fodder:

Was only there once, one of the places I played. Was at Paris Theatre in 1998 too for another showcase thing. After that, didn't get back to play until 2010 (when we hung out).
  5:47pm Martinibomb:

Office Products just played a live set for the first time for Record Store day at Specks. They also did a set on Freeform Portland earlier that day which I could probably get u the archive for.
  5:48pm Martinibomb:

Yup! The paris that's where a bunch of this was recorded probably too.. that was Aural Fixation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Otis Fodder:

What I should grab are some of the early tape/cdr releases. I have the track they did on Commercial Ad Hoc here, will pull that out for the FP show this Friday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Otis Fodder:

Paris Theatre had a nice raised stage from what I remember. God, 21 years ago. I do remember the stage, sound and lights being great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Otis Fodder:

Look at me, all chatty now. My work day ended, inbox clean. Almost time for food in 10min.
  5:51pm Martinibomb:

They just fixed up the Paris. It was a strip joint for awhile and in bad shape. But it's not the kinda place where you hear experimental sounds
  5:52pm Martinibomb:

and yeah it has a cool stage. it's a cool great old theater. I remember it being pretty beat up then. I thought it was dumpy when I first walked impression wise? even tho it's a great place
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Otis Fodder:

I've seen Bill Horist play a few times, but like 20 years ago. Pretty sure we were on the same bill at some point, it's a huge blur.
  5:53pm Martinibomb:

Tell me about it. i think that's why I was thinkin' about it. Interesting time period between hardware/software etc...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Otis Fodder:

I liked Paris, was there with Wobbly, Steev Hise, Christopher
DeLaurenti and others from our old Ovenguard Label.
  5:54pm Martinibomb:

I've been trying to get steev on MEdium Cool
  5:55pm Martinibomb:

He knows everyone I know but I've never met him so I think it's funny. Like I've heard about him for I wanna say 25+ years but never met him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Otis Fodder:

We used to lug our huge computer towers and monitors on stage from 1998-2000. 486x PC computers with 500MB hard drives and zip drives running Cool Edit and Making Waves trackers. Oh, how times have changed and our backs are much better now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Otis Fodder:

That would be cool to have Steeve on. I'll play something from his Original release this Friday too now. ;) Thanks for the ideas implanted in my noggin'.
  5:56pm Martinibomb:

OH! DUDE I used lug my AMIGA 2000 with monitor zip drives etc. Bars N Pipes + Octamed + Akai S900 + a little synth made.
Avatar 5:57pm Mr Fab:

Not sure when the calendar will change. Still waiting for the word from On High.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Otis Fodder:

Will be carrying the Medium Cool torch soon. Excited!

So funny how we all carried so much gear to gigs.
  5:57pm Martinibomb:

Ah Thanks Mr Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Wow, zip drives! I think I still have one somewhere. . .
  5:58pm Martinibomb:

Now days I'm like.. does it fit in a backpack?
  5:58pm Martinibomb:

@Hopey I have two :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Otis Fodder:

I wish I still had my zip drive and a stack of discs, would love to see what I saved 20 years back. Those things were killer at the time.
  5:59pm Martinibomb:

I still have my old amiga running off a zip drive hahah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks for the tunes Mister Bomb!
  6:00pm Martinibomb:

I like things that are finite like a 100megs. It's great. Like let's make an album and only use a 100megs
  6:01pm Martinibomb:

or how many songs can you make from the information stored on an old 1.44 floppy?
