Dave, I haven't been watching... I was many years into my US residence by then but I have had a student many years ago who lost a spouse in the aftermath... Was sent there from Latvia to assess the situation... Met a long and painful end as a result...

  10:23pm wendy del formaggio:

I think I saw Pan Sonic when they were still called Panasonic. It was in 1997 or something, the one time I was at the Middle East in Boston. As soon as they played the first few notes, the entire audience simultaneously took two BIG steps back because the sound was so intense. It was awesome.
Avatar 10:24pm geezerette:

Chresti, yes, chums. I think I'd be better off lurking!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar 10:30pm JakeGould:

Is there a Poké = Chum discussion happening?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Daniel Blumin:

Pan Sonic and Panasonic were incredible, Wendy! Ilpo of Pan Sonic will be a guest on this program on June 21st as die ANGEL, a project he's got with Schneider TM!
Avatar 10:32pm JakeGould:

Regarding Chernobyl, everything about that disaster—including what Daniel described about a student’s spouse—seems par for the course in the Soviet (former Soviet?) mentality. Lunk-headed lack of foresight. Sad situation.
Avatar 10:33pm geezerette:

No but that's a great idea for a cat cafe, Jake.
Avatar 10:35pm JakeGould:

Poké is trendy human chum.

Avatar 10:41pm JakeGould:

@geezerette: The thing you—and everyone—needs to know about my ideas is they are often horrible and only valuable as a concept. In this case, that would actually be a horrible smelling café unless they can really clean it up.

Heyyy, the signal IS coming in at wfmu.org here in Vermont. How did Daniel know that?!
Avatar 11:05pm northguineahills:

That happened to me in DC, in the pre-smartphone days. I took a pic of the sign spot where I was parked, ticket and tow fee was refunded. (I must have gotten someone new on the job or something, never heard of a less then negative outcome w/ that.)
Avatar 11:06pm Billy Jam:

man that is some blues story Daniel car towed after show in rainy NYC -Although these days with the development on Manhattan's west side the towed car lot wouldn't be there anymore but out the far end of Brooklyn
Avatar 11:10pm Undead83:

Some great changing music tonight ><((*>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm chresti:

have to try it sometime-listening to Pansonic
Avatar 11:11pm northguineahills:

I've seen Spacemen 3 at Brownies. I saw Experimental Audio Research, and Peter Kember (Sonic Boom) in FL when I was 19, and he smoked a friend and me out afterwards. When I was 20, Spectrum came to FL, and only 10 people showed up (shitty promotion, 60 were there for EAR), and not only did he smoke me and my friend out again, he gave us a tour of his analogue electronics, and let us play w/ them...
Avatar 11:12pm JakeGould:

I went to the Limelight with a friend in 1986 or 1987? Anyway, we parked on 20th Street right next to it and near a hydrant. We came out, the car was towed and we had to walk in the rain to the subway, then past the Port Authority at like 2:00am. Completely decrepit and just lots of homeless sheltering and us soaked walking past it.
Avatar 11:12pm northguineahills:

@chresti: Saw Pan Sonic at least 7 times, once in FL, once in Montreal, the rest in NYC (including the Mercury lounge, which was weird). A fave duo of mine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm Daniel Blumin:

Billy, don't worry, I've also had my car towed in Bklyn!!!! Thank yous, Undead83!
Avatar 11:16pm medow:

whats up Daniel, I actually chant the Lotus Sutra twice daily, all Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist do, and its not nearly as crazy as this. This is just like ridiculous lol.. but yo the rest of your set has been dope
  11:17pm katharsis:

Pairs well with 1920’s German expressionistic dance costumes.
Avatar 11:18pm Franco Twinkie:

Well, I was sleeping on a beach in northern Calofornia, and when I went out to the highway in the morning my car was gone. I hitch hiked to San Francisco, borrowed five dollars then thumbed it home to L.A. Several months later I got a call from the CHP. They had found the body of my car in the forest above Santa Cruz - just the shell, nothing else. They asked me if I wanted to come and get it. I politly declined.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm Daniel Blumin:

You sure about Spacemen, ngh? I don't think they ever made it over! But yes Sonic was a great guest on air and I dig the Spectrum and E.A.R stuff - to keep up the theme of autoblues - my car was stolen after I DJ'd a Spectrum set at The Hook!
Avatar 11:19pm northguineahills:

2003, Daniel, It was a reunion show.
Avatar 11:20pm JakeGould:

In the ass end of Brooklyn I grew up in—which was near the beach—there would always be husks of cars burned overnight after joyrides. What a sight! I though this was all American normal until I realized I was just raised in a poor immigrant dump where property was disposable. Anyway!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Daniel Blumin:

medow, thanks!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm Daniel Blumin:

Ahh, where they were playing the old stuff minus Jason? Saw that as well... Cool!
  11:21pm yippie:

im just trying to say "lotus sutra" over and over in the right rhythm
Avatar 11:24pm northguineahills:

@Jake: I think the last car I saw burning in the daylight in Williamsburg was 2007. (saw one 2009 late at night).

Daniel: Exactly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm Chop Scott:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Daniel Blumin:

yippie, keep going!!!
Avatar 11:31pm Franco Twinkie:

The first time I was every in the East Village, I saw a car tipped up on a building, on fire. In the middle of the day! And it wasn't a little car. It looked like a full sized Buick! Judging by the look of a lot of the people walking around down there, I didn't even ask who would do such a thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Daniel Blumin:

Yeah, Chop! Most of the time was spent out in the outdoor area!
Avatar 11:32pm northguineahills:

@Chop Scott: Yep, was at one of them. I liked it gritty. By then I could navigate the gritty areas of Brooklyn w/o being mugged (one, learns by experience.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Ken From Hyde Park:

In 1990, I was driving a Chrysler K-car with close to 100k miles on it and it burned a lot of oil. I was driving down the Taconic Parkway to NYC and pulled over to add some. I spilled a bit on the exhaust manifold and the oil caught fire. I had visions of the car burning up, but my friend & I scooped up snow and was able to put it out and continue our journey. I replaced that car about two months later. Drove it to a junkyard and handed over the title.
Avatar 11:33pm northguineahills:

(by then, the first three years in Broklyn, I got mugged a lot)
Avatar 11:39pm northguineahills:

Rusiya, home of Daniel: I'm off to an international dance party, thanks Daniel and friends!
Avatar 11:44pm JakeGould:

Before they cleaned up Floyd Bennett Field in deep Brooklyn, I would sneak into semi-abandoned hangars. They had some wrecked Coast Guard planes in there and it was surreal and fun to check that stuff out… Until MPs spotted us and kicked us out. This was similarly in the mid 1980s.
Avatar 11:47pm geezerette:

Enjoyed the show, thanks,Daniel!
