TIL Monaco once was runner up for the Eurovision in 1962, but maybe it was just upside-down Poland,,,,,,

Avatar 9:20pm northguineahills:

@chresti: if 1956 is a long time ago (my parents were in grade school, so to my perspective, yes).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Bluh, NASA says the space station is passing over southern New York at 9:28 PM, but it's all clouded up in this sector tonight.
  9:38pm Johnzon:

yeuuuh shuggie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm Sean d:

  9:45pm Bill C:

  9:47pm John from Florham Park:

  9:48pm elgaree rayo l'amour:

The "surface noise" just adds to this monster music mix. Great audio...And in further news, the "Devil" Rays stung the Yanks. In !st place? Abide.
Avatar 10:11pm northguineahills:

El ruido de la superficie es parte de diversion de la WFMU (are radio call letters feminine or masculine en espanol, never thought about it....?)
  10:11pm CC:

I'll have a chicken sandwich with a live chicken!!!...:)0(:
  10:12pm sweet cheri:

hey, good evening marty jffp and everybody, how's everyone's weekend going??
  10:15pm Bill C:

I think there’s an Elvis C song in The Godfather 3
Avatar 10:17pm northguineahills:

@sweet cheri: better now that you're here! :)

I thought Gdfthr III was mostly Nino Rota comps, but there may be other stuff sprinkled in there....
Avatar 10:19pm northguineahills:

Never heard this Shuggie cover!!!
  10:21pm Johnzon:

really? they had a hit with this... Ive heard it playing in a cvs before. or a grocery store... something like that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm pretty sure the rock station I listened to back then played this version all the time and never said it was a Shuggie Otis cover.
Avatar 10:23pm northguineahills:

@Johnzon: The amount of stuff I've never heard is larger then what I have heard.

laters, Marty y friends, I got to peace out, salud!
  10:24pm elgaree rayo l'amour:

'Strawberry' is a real pop fave on BBC 6... Bros Johnson version is monster. But Shuggie rules. Just makes the day ok whenever it pops up. Thanx for the mix DJ
Avatar 10:25pm northguineahills:

(I didn't start listening music until the early 90s, and worked my way backwards).
Avatar 10:26pm northguineahills:

Avatar 10:27pm northguineahills:

Not only can I not English, I can't Spanglish!
  10:28pm elgaree rayo l'amour:

northguineahills: Not to worry. Made the same mistake and even had Shuggie on vinyl.
  10:31pm Johnzon:

I just knew about the bj version from the liner notes of inspiration information... until I heard it in a cvs. believe it was the closest he ever got to having a hit... until people rediscovered him decades later.
  10:32pm CC:

In my memory I remember alley-oop that impressed me the most as a young child?!?...:)0(:
  10:32pm Johnzon:

he finally released a new album recently... I couldn't get into it...
  10:35pm Bill C:

The Hollywood Argyles. K-Tel used to release compilations of novelty records. Goofy Greats, Kooky Tunes, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The Revenge of the Nerds movie sung the "clap your hands" line in the fraternity talent competition.
  10:39pm elgaree rayo l'amour:

Shuggie was hard to ignore at the time as the son of Johnny Otis. Still have his first on vinyl.
  10:44pm Nate K:

Making this cab ride a good one, my dude.
  10:46pm elgaree rayo l'amour:

Not sure about anyone still listening but "Strawberry Letter" was just a magical and positive song. Never understood what the '23' reference. Maybe it took 23 takes to do the guitar part.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Blacktooth:

Remembering when Skee-Lo was in regular rotation on MTV.... uuhhhh 1994??????? I wish I was a little bit younger.....
