The Failure of Staying Sharp
  3:08pm sugarwolf:

I remember hearing this song on this very show back in, uh, 2002?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm The Oscar:

Afternoon! Show of hands, is there anyone here who *didn't* feel personally targeted the first time they heard this?
Avatar 3:08pm northguineahills:

I think part of why I like this song, is, I actually played Daft Punk to indie/punk kids (circa 1998), and they ate it up....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Kat in Chicago:

*fails to raise hand*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm zopa:

it's gotta be around here somewhere...
  3:10pm Don S:

this tune owes a lot to "Cardboard Lamb"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm chresti:

I remember this slower
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Rich in Washington:

I still really love the Chipmunks version of this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Michael 98145:

This -had- to happen
Avatar 3:13pm northguineahills:

(I never traded my turntables in for guitars, still had a guitar here and there).
  3:13pm Ike:

Never paid that much attention to the lyrics on that one before today. Amusing. Fabio’s record store experiences might be why he likes it?
  3:14pm grumble gin goose:

Class A show so far. LCD followed by the Marquis. Is it me selecting these records? No.
Avatar 3:16pm crateslinger:

This is almost like a rock and roll show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Polyus:

Now this is a Swans deep cut.
  3:19pm Brendan:

I wish Mark E. Smith didn’t leave us so early. He would have been delightful as an even grumpier old man, something to aspire to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm The Oscar:

@Brendan To be fair, he was kind of a grumpy old man for about forty years at least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Rich in Washington:

He left us at the height of his curmudgeoness.
  3:22pm grumble gin goose:

Ha ha grumpy in the womb. Wish I could still see him perform tho. Left a big gap in my life. I live in the north of England so saw the fall 4x per year minimum.
  3:24pm grumble gin goose:

Fuck me this is good choices

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Franco Twinkie:

I have fond memories of seen The Fall in 1985 in a former steak house next to a gravel pit in Azuza. Mark was a total crank.
Avatar 3:27pm Franinator87:

This is a nutty set so far
  3:29pm grumble gin goose:

The steak place?
  3:30pm Ike:

Hey everybody remember to log in and clicky-star “Mr. Giant Man” and catch up with that festering avatar of lethally stupid ultra-mediocrity on Tuesday mornings by that arch-nitwit Don Felder, accursed be his name.
Avatar 3:30pm khd:

done and done
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Franco Twinkie:

Grumble, That's what I thought! What year did that come out. The place was called Oscars Corn husker.
Avatar 3:35pm khd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

ha ha! hi Ike! Howdy Fabio, hey there, WFMU listeners…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Michael 98145:

- everything from A to Z in the USA, including the Fall -
  3:36pm Brendan:

Ike I believe I’ve had an epiphany. Felder is a turd encrusted, choad licking Denebrian slime devil.
  3:38pm ?:

I like to think I coined the phrase of Can being the "Beatles of WFMU" :)
Avatar 3:39pm V Priceless:

Heya Fab, Failures!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm chresti:

I still haven't heard the nitwit song or Don Felder
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Franco Twinkie:

Michael, actually, Azuza is the Chumash Indian word for drive-in screen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Michael 98145:

@FT, i did not know that!

Avatar 3:42pm northguineahills:

Harmony Rockets, new to me!
  3:42pm Ike:

@Brendan, ooooo I like that. Let’s try to get that in as the first comment next Tuesday so that it becomes the title of that episode of GT. The first comment is always the title (for no apparent reason). So far I’ve successfully put insults of Felder in as several show titles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hi friends
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm zopa:

i could've sworn i put it over there on the table, but it isn't there. i've looked everywhere. guess i'll have to go get a new one. sigh. i was just getting used to it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hurling toward failure with the brakes out today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Meant to type "hurtling," but hurling may also apply. Still failing.
  3:52pm Brendan:

@Ike if my car doesn’t start and I miss the Clay transitions / start up rumblings of the ole Garbage Truck, use full artistic license to post that or any other apt descriptions of that double neck totin’ malodorous congealed mass of rendered lard varmit.

Also this track REIGNS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Z-pulpa:

anyone know when the show schedule changes for the summer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Z - The current schedule says it goes to June 3, so the new one will probably be announced a few days before that. www.wfmu.org...
  4:05pm Brendan:

The background sounds somehow remind me of the Jack Horkheimer ‘Star Hustler’ weekly astronomy show theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm zopa:

gotta go. show favorited. thanks fabio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Michael 98145:

Ooh, that reminds me: "WAITING FOR THE SOLAR STORM: NOAA forecasters say there is a 75% chance of geomagnetic storms on May 16th when a CME is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field. The impact could cause storms ranging in strength from category G1 (minor) to G2 (moderate) with auroras in northern-tier US states such as Maine, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Montana and Washington State."
Avatar 4:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Supersilent is soooo good, thanks for that.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm jmr3:

Met Jack Horkheimer a few times when I was a kid. Odd dude. The original Tomita theme still transports me to being an 8th grader staying up too late on a school night.

I'm starting to flash back to the 1989 Rainbow Gathering...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Z-pulpa:

when rainbow gathering came to town while i was in highschool I met so many trippy guys with bushy beards and it definitionally influenced my perception of adulthood.
Avatar 4:31pm crateslinger:

great place to get dysentery, rainbow gatherings...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Booz:

Is this the part inspired by "monks going to the roaring waterfall to chant"?
  4:32pm Brendan:

Along the Rainbow theme: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Bridge_(film)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm chresti:

...so, you like comments?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

i never stopped flashbacking to the 1989 rainbow gathering (and i wasn't there!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

chresti: fabio was saying that most listeners of WFMU never comment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

in related news, most WFMU listeners never contribute to the fundraisers (according to SMK)
  4:35pm Brendan:

Per the wiki: “ The response to Rainbow Bridge is uniformly negative. Shadwick calls it "a snafu of impressive dimensions even for the hippie generation."[1] He adds that it was "so drug-addled, pseudo-mystical and stuffed with narcissistic, self-important onscreen hippies that the only hope of saving it indeed was to put Hendrix on celluloid".[1] Shapiro describes it as "a ludicrous farrago of pseudo-mystical acid babble devoid of sincerity ... Overall, the best thing that can be said about Rainbow Bridge is that, after seventy-one minutes, it finishes".

I gotta watch it now
  4:36pm Johnzon:

hey fabio... you're a phenomenon. Im commenting. think that's all I got for now... keep up the groovy work!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm chresti:

Ah! Thanks Granny!
  4:37pm Skagbaron:

Tatort is still on German tv
  4:37pm Johnzon:

crateslinger, was 89' the year Vermin Supreme first put a boot on his head & declared his intention to run for president at rainbow? my friend claims to have been there but he makes many outlandish claims...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm chresti:

I was caring for my infant son in 1989, was not aware of a rainbow gathering.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

in 1989 i thought that rainbow gatherings must be the coolest places on earth, but i never actually did attend one. glad to have missed out on the dysentery and STIs…
Avatar 4:42pm crateslinger:

Could be Johnzon... Allz I remember it was the Cherokee National Forest in North Carolina, and we destroyed the place.
Avatar 4:42pm crateslinger:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm steveo:

Avatar 5:00pm northguineahills:

Bamboo murder city reminds me of the bamboo forest I used to play tag and hide and seek w/ my friends as kids, in Japan. There were pathways/tunnels in the bamboo, and we all came out bloody running through them (totally worth it)!
