Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm chresti:

coel! Greets to you!
Avatar 10:05pm coelacanth∅:

just heard "club-a-go-go" yesterday on big planet noise. good to hear these early animals tracks
Avatar 10:05pm Kris Holmes:

Hi guys & gal.
Avatar 10:06pm coelacanth∅:

Franco, what was the first?
Avatar 10:09pm still b/p:

Just for the hell of it, I hadda just go watch a clip of Paul Lynde, in a different context altogether, saying, "Animals....they're all animals."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm chresti:

Haha sb/p!
Avatar 10:13pm Franco Twinkie:

The Animals got psychedelic after that. My sister and the girl across the street saw them at this place called The Carousel, that yes had a revolving stage. Although it was just a couple of months after See See Rider, they were already doing Sky Pilot and Monterey.
Avatar 10:14pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, 7&7 is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Matt from New Orleans:

I had hoped you play boom boom. It’s an enthusiastic if pale imitation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm chresti:

Love Inside looking out
Avatar 10:19pm Little Danny:

Hey Kris, hey good people
Avatar 10:22pm Little Danny:

It is my lot in life to be forever accosted by chatty weirdos. They sniff me out
Avatar 10:23pm Little Danny:

Put Misa on mic!
Avatar 10:23pm coelacanth∅:

inside lookin out is easily my favorite animals song, though i don't seem to get tired of house of the rising sun
that sounded like a different mix than what i know.
Avatar 10:24pm Franco Twinkie:

That's a good one Kris, I worked with a guy who said he was in The Santana Blues Band. He said he quit to play football at Stanford on a scholarship and broke his leg the first season. End of career(s).
Avatar 10:24pm coelacanth∅:

hey Danny
Avatar 10:24pm still b/p:

Chatty Weirdos was the name of Doug Schulkind's first high school debate team.
Avatar 10:25pm Little Danny:

"Inside Looking Out," "Outcast," "Don't Bring Me Down," and "When I Was Young" are massive faves over here

Heya good coel
Avatar 10:25pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 10:29pm Little Danny:

This Marie Knight is great. Love the big production
Avatar 10:31pm Franco Twinkie:

Musicor had some muscle, no?
Avatar 10:31pm Kris Holmes:

unfortunately my copy has a big chemical burn on the styrene :-( but it only cost me a quarter instead of $500
Avatar 10:31pm coelacanth∅:

hey JK!
Avatar 10:33pm Kris Holmes:

Jean Wells is absolutely one of, if not the best unknown female soul singers of any era.
  10:33pm JtotheK:

Hiya coel!
Avatar 10:34pm still b/p:

I was going to quote that song for Jesse just before he went off a little while ago.
Avatar 10:35pm coelacanth∅:

sealed with a kiss?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm Matt from New Orleans:

Marie Knight was a neighbor of mine. She used to hang out with a bunch of older ladies in the warmer weather when I first moved to Harlem in the mid 90s. I had no idea who she was. But one of the other ladies let me know one day so I tried to find out about her but the Internet was in its infancy. Luckily I went up to the Schomburg library and a librarian helped me find info and I went down to the library of performing arts to listen to old sister Rosetta tharpe 78s in their collection that she had sung on.
Avatar 10:37pm Little Danny:

Wow, Matt! That's incredible
Avatar 10:38pm still b/p:

Sure...cold lonely summer...pledge to meet in September. etc.
(Or See You In September.)
Avatar 10:39pm coelacanth∅:

he better come back!
Avatar 10:40pm coelacanth∅:

Matt, another good story!
Avatar 10:42pm Kris Holmes:

She was also Rosetta Tharpe's lover no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Matt from New Orleans:

I got to know her a little over the years but those ladies were crazy so I never wanted to spend too much time with them. They kept the block in check. They would play cards and roll dice and drink all day long out of coffee mugs.
Avatar 10:46pm Little Danny:

Funny, I think I read that somewhere too, Kris. Sounds like something Nick Tosches would write
Avatar 10:47pm coelacanth∅:

haha! sounds like my kind of women!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm Matt from New Orleans:

Someone made a musical about sister Rosetta and Marie knight
Avatar 10:48pm Kris Holmes:

I thought I read it in the excellent Sister Rosetta biography?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm Matt from New Orleans:

that is a fantastic book Kris but I can’t recall
Avatar 10:49pm Kris Holmes:

Marie Knight's version of Cry Me A River on Musicor though
Avatar 10:51pm Franco Twinkie:

I like that video of Sister Rosseta Tharpe plaing her white Gibson SG on the train platform in the rain not giving two shits if she gets electrocuted.
Avatar 10:52pm Franco Twinkie:

Roy Clark on guitar.
Avatar 10:56pm still b/p:

The coat Tharpe is wearing on the train platform...it's the coat that gets me.
Avatar 10:56pm Kris Holmes:

ha yeah, those clips are great, that whole show is incredible, Muddy Waters etc
Avatar 10:58pm Franco Twinkie:

There is a great picture of Charlie Foxx playing Brain Jones Vox Teardrop as Brain looks on.
Avatar 10:59pm Kris Holmes:

ooh gonna have to google that
Avatar 11:00pm Little Danny:

OMG this Barbara Lewis is an all time fave
Avatar 11:00pm Franco Twinkie:

still b/p, yeah, the coat! Those pom-poms!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Matt from New Orleans:

I love belting out the chorus of this song
Avatar 11:02pm Kris Holmes:

Dan, Rae & I were talking about how you have one of the best ears in the business of hearing quality.
Avatar 11:04pm Little Danny:

That's very kind of you two! Really appreciate it!
Avatar 11:06pm Kris Holmes:

Gene Page, Bert Burns & Jeff Barry on the credits of this Drifters 45, pulling out all the stops
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Matt from New Orleans:

No Ellie Greenwich?
Avatar 11:08pm Kris Holmes:

ha, just saw she wrote it!!!!
Avatar 11:12pm Franco Twinkie:

Societies Child or Papa Oom Mow Mow - you decide!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm Matt from New Orleans:

I met Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich in the 80s when I was a kid. I was supposed to go see the King and I revival with Yul Brynner but he got sick but the show was cancelled instead of an understudy and the producers didn’t want to give refunds so they gave us tickets to a different show and my mom and I saw Leader of the Pack and Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich happened to be at the theater that day and my mom sort of knew Ellie through her first cousin who went to Queens College with her. I had no idea what was going on but lived the show and the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm Matt from New Orleans:

Loved the show
Avatar 11:19pm coelacanth∅:

Good night c
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm chresti:

'night coel
Avatar 11:28pm Little Danny:

Tex sounds like he based some of arrangement of "C.C. Rider" on the Animals' version
Avatar 11:29pm Franco Twinkie:

When I was a kid, Wayne Cochran and His CC Riders would sometimes be on TV in the middle of the night. I had no context for such bizarreness at the time.
Avatar 11:35pm Little Danny:

Dang this Joe Simon is wyld
Avatar 11:36pm Kris Holmes:

it's sooooooo gooooooood
Avatar 11:41pm Franco Twinkie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Matt from New Orleans:

This is the record label that the cissy strut cover I was telling you about is on
Avatar 11:52pm Kris Holmes:

yes, they had offices in San Antonio for a second
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Matt from New Orleans:

I had completely forgotten all about it until I saw the label name again
Avatar 11:55pm Franco Twinkie:

Avatar 11:59pm Kris Holmes:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Matt from New Orleans:
