Bon jour. As previously prophecized, I have been to the France and checked things out for everyone. I am happy to report that everything met with my satisfaction, and more surprisingly, that I have finally had it with the capitalist swine of my native land. Screw all y'all!
Well, not really. But for the first time in my career as a traveler, I experienced a sensation that was entirely new to me: I didn't want to come back. At all. In fact, I got fairly cranky about it on the morning I was driven back to the airport in Geneva. Wouldn't you have? After a week of lounging in the French countryside amidst snow-capped mountains, lush forests, eating cheese with every meal, and having a hilarious guy named Jean-Paul following you around and re-filling your wine glass before you'd even realized it was drained, coming back to the harsh (albeit unique) reality of suburban NYC is enough to make a guy run through a mall with guns blazing.
But I refrained, as I suspect prison is even worse than Bergen County. The night I returned, in an effort to stay awake until at least 10 PM Eastern Time in order to reduce jetlag trauma, I took myself out for dinner, and then wandered into the local Italian-American festival that was taking place in my neigborhood. Let me tell you in strictest confidence that nothing says "welcome home" with the same horror as witnessing an attractive woman with a fresh black eye dancing with a man who has a bandaged hand while a cover band crashes through "Maggie" by Rod Stewart. Je m'appelle Michel et je suis un cynic.
