Howdy, folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Rich in Washington:

Rancid Vat has had such a strange, varied career.
Avatar 12:21pm Tony Coulter:

Howdy, hey, hello, Granny Spicy Tuna!
Avatar 12:23pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Rich! To my ears, "Stampeding Cattle" is one of the very best records to come out of Portland. After that one, Rancid Vat pretty much loses me (based on what I've heard, at least).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Michael 98145:

yes. i know how to use a keypunch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Rich in Washington:

Not into the professional wrestling thing or wobbly renditions of Three Dog Night songs, eh, Tony?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

This is so perfectly, gloriously 80s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Michael 98145:

Fun set. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Something about this reminds me of The Raincoats
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Webhamster Henry:

This is good and crazy!
Avatar 12:53pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Webhamster!
  12:57pm Dean:

Berrocal was in Catalogue, oui?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Yvang:

Just in time for "Le Bal"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Webhamster Henry:

I had to run out and vote , but can catch up in the archive. (Ulster Cty Exec Special election today)
Avatar 12:58pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Dean! Indeed, Berrocal was/is in Catalogue.
Avatar 12:59pm Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, Yvang!

Avatar 1:01pm Tony Coulter:

Holy-o hey hello, steveo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm chris:

hi, Tony and folks. i don't want to be overly dramatic about it or anything, but this Renée Claude track just made my life better. very nice.
Avatar 1:14pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Chris! "Doux Amer" is a great track. Found that LP in the just-closed Iris Records, which used to be right near FMU. They used to have a whole room full of records from Quebec -- I'm not kidding!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm chris:

did the Quebec room always want its own store? :D
Avatar 1:16pm Tony Coulter:

It *had* its own store! That stuff was kept in an empty storefront next to Iris Records
Avatar 1:22pm Tony Coulter:

Yes, "travelen" is how Morey & Co. spell "traveling."
Avatar 1:35pm HollyT:

This set is outstanding
Avatar 1:36pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Holly! I'm letting my hippy side out....
  1:37pm Dean:

Hmmm, did Traveling Wilburys perhaps follow Help Yourself's lead?
Avatar 1:38pm HollyT:

The fact that a lot of this is from the late 70s/early 80s goes well with my (not original) theory that decades start and end two years in--i.e. the 80s didn't start until 82, etc.
Avatar 1:38pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Not sure -- mostly because, as far as I know, I've never heard the Traveling Wilburys!
  1:39pm Dean:

Not willingly, at least.
Avatar 1:40pm Tony Coulter:

@ Holly: And then there's the rural backwater time lag factor...
Avatar 1:41pm HollyT:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm chris:

your hippy side agrees with me, Tony. let it out anytime, i say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm steveo:

that's an impressive accomplishment, Tony (about the Wilburys)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Michael 98145:

Micah time !
Avatar 1:49pm Tony Coulter:

Judging from the synths, this Christian Folk record is at least late-'70s, and maybe '80s .... tho the clothes scream '70s.
  1:51pm Dean:

Which means Christian Folk brazenly ripped off the Allman Bros., title-wise!
  1:51pm Kudubundu:

And suddenly I was transported into the good old 70's. Ah I remember.....
Avatar 1:52pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Yeah, but brothers and sisters in weed and booze is not the same thing as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Avatar 1:52pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Kudubundu!
  1:53pm Dean:

Except for the unique case of Charlie Manson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm steveo:

here's some support for 1978 on the Christian Folk www.theancientstar-song.com... (also the back cover says they entered the studio in Feb 1978) HTH.
Avatar 2:03pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Steveo! Didn't really read the liner notes too carefully. Most likely '78 or '79 then, I guess!
Avatar 2:05pm Tony Coulter:

The tearsheet for this Care of the Cow reissue quotes me -- which is nice ... except, it misquotes me. Makes it sound like I'm not on good terms with adverbs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm steveo:

that song failed to convince me that dogs' ears are, in fact, stupid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm steveo:

@2:05 Neat / eek!
  2:08pm Dean:

One of my favorite labels, Ambiances Magnétiques.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Michael 98145:

- this is nice -
Avatar 2:12pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Yeah, they're a favorite label of mine as well -- tho I really haven't been keeping up with their releases for a *long* time (um, for maybe 15-20 years!). I do have almost all of the earlier releases, tho.
Avatar 2:14pm northguineahills:

I want one of Paoli Angeli's Sardinian guitars: www.paoloangeli.com...
  2:14pm Dean:

Nor have I, but I get the emails, and I did recently grab a box of Klaxon Gueule disks from days of yore.
Avatar 2:15pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, hey, hey, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm chresti:

Nice. want one too @ngh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm steveo:

i'm still working on stringing the guitar we found in the garbage ...
Avatar 2:20pm northguineahills:

errr…., Paolo....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Michael 98145:

ooh! i would love to hear the Iva Bittova project ... www.paoloangeli.com...
Avatar 2:22pm northguineahills:

I've met Iva Bittova many times (in social music/art settings), and seen her live, but have sadly never seen paolo angeli live.
  2:23pm Dean:

The Badorou brought to mind Zed Records in Long Beach, CA, because it's on the Island label, and Zed was associated with Chris Blackwell: https://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2017/10/zed-records-the-birth-of-socal-punk. Helluva store, Zed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Michael 98145:

^ so, i can! soundcloud.com...
Avatar 2:24pm northguineahills:

gracias. Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Michael 98145:

cripes, @Dean. i loved Zed Records. Had NO idea there was a Blackwell connection ... of course, that was the early 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Webhamster Henry:

Ms. Bittova just played in the Basilica Dronefest last weekend. I'd like to go to her music class (also featuring bandmate Timothy Hill)
  2:29pm Dean:

Do you remember the small McCain chain of stores, one of which was in Long Beach, @Michael 98145? Zachariah McCain, etc.?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Michael 98145:

@Dean, don't recall them ... but i do remember Licorice Pizza near Belmont Shores ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Michael 98145:

{ geez, i loves this station }
  2:34pm Dean:

Ah, yes, me, too! It was Hezekiah McCain, I believe, also in Belmont Shore. Zachariah was in Whittier, and there was a Jeremiah somewhere in the Southland. In high school, c.'76, we'd cover a huge swath of the LA area on record shopping trips, including Long Beach for Zed, Licorice Pizza, and McCain's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Michael 98145:

@Dean, yup. driving 30 miles for something was just what we did. back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Michael 98145:

@Tony C, thanks for playing so much i have never, ever heard before now
Avatar 2:40pm Tony Coulter:

You're very welcome, Mr. 98145!

The whole WWW is like public Access TV.
Avatar 2:47pm Tony Coulter:

Very true!
  2:47pm Kudubundu:

Thanks to WFMU and GTDR I am hearing so much new music each day that I didn't ever hear on any other station. It's a musical revelation for me and something I truly appreciate.
Avatar 2:48pm Tony Coulter:

Glad to hear it, Kudubundu!
Avatar 2:50pm Sem:

Agree entirely w/Kudubundu. Kickass show today, Tony. I'm sore, but in a good way.
Thx, see you next week.
Avatar 2:52pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Sem! Next time I won't wear iron-tipped boots
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm chresti:
