Morning! I'm sitting here wondering what Mr. Mac's sleep schedule is like.

Heading out soon but will be listening from the road. I'm sure I'll be traveling very close to Zzzzzzero miles per Hour.
Avatar 12:13pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi Bill. Did someone say pickle juice?
Avatar 12:14pm Bill Mac:

rw Don't tell work how I've been spending my Fridays.
Avatar 12:15pm βrian:

Our 5-year old asks for pickle juice. And the brine from black olives. Go figure.

Hey RW, Sorry to hear that. God forbid it's the west side you have to crawl to.

Stanley, I must tell you about going as far south in Morocco as you could before running into the insurgency over Western Sahara and the Moroccans. Eye and sphincter-opening, let me tell you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Stanley:

Hi Sem. It's a shame you can't go round West Africa that way. I have flown along the coast and, man, is it sparsely habited.
  12:35pm rw:

Speaking of Mdou Moctar, my daughter and I saw the show last week in LA. He was selling jewelry at the merch table to raise funds for a school and in the confusion of the crowd and loud music I stupidly missed the opportunity to contribute. If any of y'all make it to any of the shows please thow a dollar or two in the hat for me!
  12:35pm rw:

And I'm out. Thanks Bill! Have a great weekend everyone!

@chresti, did not know that one. Thought Pinto or Bay would be more appropriate.

Avatar 1:11pm Bill Mac:

KP You don't like?
Avatar 1:17pm still b/p:

I was in a place yesterday -- combination small performance and rehearsal and artist studio space -- and there are some art books around, including a good-size volume on Aubrey Beardsley sitting on the floor and leaning against the wall in one of the rest rooms. And while I regretted not having time to look through it, I thought that "Aubrey Bearsdley in the bathroom" would be a nice piece of a Tom Waits lyric.
Avatar 1:19pm coelacanth∅:

  1:19pm holland oats:

had this on black and white colored vinyl as a yoot
Avatar 1:20pm Bill Mac:

Avatar 1:20pm coelacanth∅:

...and for the record the nova was a good car!
  1:23pm holland oats:

@bill there ya go - i think it was my 2nd colored vinyl behind elo's sweet talkin' woman purple 45
Avatar 1:24pm Bill Mac:

I had one, engine ran great, but the body had majro cancer and a lot of water useta get in the trunk. There was a seal in the trunk that you had to remove to let the water out.
Avatar 1:26pm coelacanth∅:

i have black and white on marble but never got into the album. probably listened to it a handful of times before giving up trying to like something i didn't like. that was >30 years ago.
-good to hear that song today though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Michael 98145:

i confess i did like the Stranglers back then
  1:28pm holland oats:

my favorite stranglers song is called 'rock it to the moon' - very devo, only appeared on a bonus 45 with stranglers 4
Avatar 1:28pm Brian in UK:

I had an old Austin 1100. You had to wear wellingtons when it rained. Floor panels were dire.
Avatar 1:29pm coelacanth∅:

Bill what year?
i never had any issues of any kind until i slid it on it's side for ...100 yards? -and it slammed back down onto the road.
-still i drove it away from that scene. (until i got stopped for driving a car with 2 flat tires on the road)
Avatar 1:31pm coelacanth∅:

i was into the raven. i still listen to it now and then. (except i skip that duchess song! always did)
  1:32pm holland oats:

selling some stranglers this weekend actually - sunday table h4 people! #plug
Avatar 1:36pm coelacanth∅:

Brian i've had a few volvos that leak around the windscreen. one of them still after jamming lots of goo around the whole perimeter of it and eventually i figured out the water was getting in below the glass somewhere and the faster i went the more the water would be pushed up on the inside until it got to the top then dripped down.
Avatar 1:37pm Brian in UK:

Bill, I think that the Stranglers were mistakenly put into the Punk category.
Avatar 1:38pm KP in DC:

Bill, could it be the name, the Stranglers? Just a suggestion. I saw them early on. Dug "Peaches." That was it/
Avatar 1:38pm Brian in UK:

Do you call Novas sub-compacts?
  1:39pm holland oats:

best car song... electric eels - jaguar ride?
Avatar 1:41pm coelacanth∅:

"mid-sized" i believe -at least back then. in the out of control piggyness that is the us now maybe it'd be called compact
Avatar 1:44pm Franco Twinkie:

Top Stranglers song - No Mercy. Life lived and put to music.
Avatar 1:45pm coelacanth∅:

Bill 1972 was when they still looked good but had some issues. i had an ugly '75 and i think they were generally excellent then.
they'd gone from muscle car to modest middleclass worker car
mine was passed down to me for a hundred bucks from my mother who had it passed to her from an old family friend
Avatar 1:47pm coelacanth∅:

(when's Uncle Michael going to do a car song themed show?)
Avatar 1:47pm Bill Mac:

@CC Lucky I think I spent over a thousand for mine. Always great to find a deal though,.
  1:47pm holland oats:

datsun 510 holla
Avatar 1:49pm coelacanth∅:

oh i was very lucky. my mother happened to get a new (used) car right when i was undertaking a rebuild project on my '69 volvo.
Avatar 1:49pm still b/p:

Little Billy written for American Cancer Society. Hm. But was never given to them or used by them.
Avatar 1:50pm Bill Mac:

@b/p I was wondering why they where laughing in the song
Avatar 1:51pm coelacanth∅:

i had a datsun 510 coupe! 1978?
Avatar 1:53pm coelacanth∅:

(...or, "hatchback"? )
Avatar 1:55pm βrian:

I had a 1975 Datsun pickup that was hand-painted with a brush. The fenders flapped in the breeze, but boy was the beast reliable.

When it finally died, someone paid me $200 to tow it away.
Avatar 1:55pm Bill Mac:

Someone mentioned Pinto awhile ago. My buddy's parents had one that he drove around. We were always afraid of getting rear ended cos the gas tanks supposedly blew up on impact
Avatar 1:57pm Roberto:

Wait, are we talking about Datsuns? My first car, an '81 510 hatchback in beige. I drove it for 17 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Michael 98145:

a local boy had a Pinto with flames painted from the rear of the car
Avatar 1:59pm Bill Mac:

@Michael Hey why lower your expectations!
Avatar 2:00pm coelacanth∅:

Michael haha!
i remember seeing pintos with bumper stickers that read
"POW tank"
Avatar 2:04pm coelacanth∅:

yeah datsun's were awesome.
the same old family friend who unloaded his 75 nova that i ended up with had 2 datsun bluebirds in the early 60s. occasionally when our car was broken or when he needed to borrow it (big '57 bel air) my mother would use his (not his wife's) datsun and i loved it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar 2:08pm Bill Mac:

@KP Subtle!
Avatar 2:09pm Franco Twinkie:

I had a '73 510. Slow as shit, but indestructible.
Avatar 2:12pm coelacanth∅:

when vegas were introduced they were offered with either a 4 or a 2-cylinder engine. the 4 was painfully slow. i wonder if anyone ever bought a 2.

Avatar 2:19pm Brian in UK:

Just started reading The Dharma Bums. First time reading Kerouac.
Avatar 2:20pm coelacanth∅:

i had a volvo 240 wagon that i hand painted. i didn't want to do the flames thing so i painted blue water along the front, so it (theoretically) looked like i was plowing through water (or just coming out of it)
Avatar 2:21pm Bill Mac:

@BiUK How's it going?
Avatar 2:23pm Bill Mac:

Is it the Volvo that has the battery in the back seat?

I think Andy from the Ex was in them.
Avatar 2:26pm Bill Mac:

Hey CC, what's up?
Avatar 2:27pm coelacanth∅:

my volvo with a battery in the back seat? or a volvo that was designed that way?
(either way, as you can guess, the answer is no!)
Avatar 2:29pm Bill Mac:

A friend of mine had either a Volvo of an Audi and the battery was in the back seat, I swear!
Avatar 2:29pm coelacanth∅:

...although one car i carried an extra battery with me, on the back seat, for jump-starting because i couldn't figure out what was draining the battery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Jeff Golick:

BMWs of a certain vintage have the battery under the back seat.
Avatar 2:31pm Franco Twinkie:

I'm trying to remember if it was my '64 Volvo wagon that had the battery under the back seat or was it my '68 VW wagon. I had them at the same time, so I'm mixing them up.
Avatar 2:32pm Bill Mac:

@JG I just saw it mentioned that some BMWs had battery in the trunk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm chresti:

I had a battery in the back seat, might of been either the volvo or a vw rabbit
Avatar 2:33pm Franco Twinkie:

I reprimered the right front fender, maan!
Avatar 2:33pm coelacanth∅:

i know there's a volvo with the battery in the trunk/under the bed in the wagon model; but i wouldn't doubt the audi doing that.
shitty cars.
it may have been designed for 2 batteries, like some bmws, for all the unnecessary electrical crap -one in the engine compartment, one in the trunk (or maybe back seat!)
Avatar 2:35pm Bill Mac:

@CC I remember him mentioning the car sucked
Avatar 2:36pm Sem:

Nice, nice, nice. Lovely Tom.
Avatar 2:36pm coelacanth∅:

oh yeah i think several cars used to do the under the seat thing.
-REALLY not a good idea, in my opinion.
Avatar 2:36pm Bill Mac:

@Franco I dig Mother with Ray Collins.... Hey Sem!
Avatar 2:36pm Franco Twinkie:
