Hi ho ho!
  3:06pm John from Florham Park:

Hello fellow Fabio fans
Avatar 3:07pm khd:

hi failures!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm The Oscar:

Afternoon! Anyone catch the "Let's Get Lost" episode of Documentary Now a few weeks back?
  3:13pm David in London:

Hello all you Fabrinis out there.
Avatar 3:14pm Bas NL:

Hi Fabio! Please let us hear all that music you love!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Ike:

Let's make Mr. Giant Man *number one* and defeat the monstrous mega-mediocrity Don Felder, the bloated bumbling bloviator, the saggy sleazy soft-rock slimeball, once and for all! Everyone PLEASE CLICKY-STAR "Mr. Giant Man" today. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Booz:

So did that blip mean we'll be hearing Takayanagi later? I'll get my noise shirt on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Booz:

Oh that WAS him. That was the quietest I've ever heard him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm tim from champaign:

Before the playlist updated, during the Takayanagi song I was thinking "how come I've never heard this John Coltrane song and who's on guitar?" Makes sense now and I want to hear more Takayanagi for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm tim from champaign:

I love this Gil Scott Heron jam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm chresti:

who is Don Felder and why does he want to hurt Mr. Giant Man?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Booz:

@tim Blank Forms is rereleasing a Takayanagi record in June, here:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm The Oscar:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm tim from champaign:

Thanks, Booz! I was not aware of Blank Forms. The releases and the journals looking pretty awesome.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm The Oscar:

Just watched Multiple Maniacs for the first time not long ago. Those early Waters films are really special.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Booz:

Where does one get John Waters' address in 1986? Impressive.
Avatar 3:36pm geezerette:

Darn, I missed Chet.
  3:44pm holland oats:

MoMA's 4-20 screening of Female Trouble was great. A lot of the audience had never seen it before. Hysterical.
Avatar 3:47pm geezerette:

In L.A. there's a Lawrence of La Brea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Fabio, Female trouble is my favorite too! In 1975 I knew nothing of John Waters, but I heard this insane sounding commercial on the radio with something from Hot Rats for the back round music. I couldn't resist. It was for the L.A. premier at the Las Palmas theater in Hollywood, a real dump. I got and autographed picture of Devine that I quickly lost....."Dawn Daventport is eating a meatball sandwich!!!"
  3:49pm ?:

^ that's awesome
  3:50pm holland oats:

now tell us how the eraserhead premiere went
  3:55pm Polyus:

That Larry Young track was like wow.
  3:55pm David in London:

Was lucky enough to see Annette Peacock a couple of years ago in a tiny club. Just her and the piano. She was absolutely breath-taking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm ɨkɛ:

My aunt Cookie was in that.
  3:56pm holland oats:

  3:57pm David in London:

Your aunt was Cookie Mueller? That's just too cool.
  3:59pm Tony:

David, did she play this song? (I'm the One)

Avatar 4:01pm Chris from DC:

Would someone get that please?
  4:02pm holland oats:

it's cookie puss!
  4:05pm nic:

love this!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm ɨkɛ:

My memory is terrible though, and honestly I still haven't finished reading the incredibly detailed book by Chloé Griffin about her. I like Cookie's writing more than the acting, since John Waters' movies don't do much for me. She did good wild short pieces. Also this song reminds me of her!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm chresti:

Wow wow@ike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Carmichael:

Finally got here. Hope there's enough time left for failing.
  4:07pm David in London:

@Tony, not the night I saw her, but it was one of two, so that may have been different in her second set. She was amazing though,
  4:08pm David in London:

@ike - I kind of feel the same. I loved Walking Through Clear Water in a Pool Painted Black. It was a revelation reading that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Michael 98145:

enjoying this -
Avatar 4:12pm geezerette:

Michael, likewise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Example of failure: There was no sequel to "A Clockwork Orange." They discovered some manuscripts, however: www.cnn.com...
  4:14pm Tony:

David, I was wondering if her voice could still handle that song! I read a review recently of a show Annette did in NYC, and it said something like that at the end she got up from the piano and left the stage, but her vocals were still playing. This made the reviewer wonder whether the entire performance had been pre-recorded.
Avatar 4:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Let'z get crushed under everybody's Liszt.
  4:18pm David in London:

@Tony, that's deeply weird, isn't it? Well, all I can say is that the venue (Café OTO, and you can see pictures of it online) is a small intimate room with no stage. I was in the front row, only about five feet in front of her, and if the sound hadn't have been coming out of her mouth, it would have been immediately apparent. She was doing it live, and doing it in style.
Avatar 4:19pm geezerette:

RevRab, haha! :)
Avatar 4:19pm Chris from DC:

I've wanted to go to Cafe Oto for a while.
Avatar 4:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Or looped.
  4:22pm David in London:

@Chris from DC. OTO truly is a gem. I can go and see the absolute global cream of out-there music and walk home in 15 minutes. *smug face*
Avatar 4:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if the whole thing's mimed & no one thot of it til the end - that's a pretty mean performance...course, I could just be a hologram...
Avatar 4:25pm geezerette:

RevRab, yet so lifelike!
Avatar 4:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Why - TY.
  4:28pm David in London:

@RRN63 - slightly against my better judgement I have tickets to see the hologram Frank Zappa show in a few weeks time, so it'll soon be a reality...
Avatar 4:30pm Chris from DC:

@David, if I could just walk to a venue like that...
Avatar 4:32pm geezerette:

Yo, Chresti! Franco!

Ike, aware of your aunt but never saw the films or read her books. She sounds more than worth reading.
Avatar 4:36pm geezerette:

Best batch of bohos here.
This is the club I can walk to.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Ike:

NOTE for the Record Fair: Taking the train from Manhattan or NJ? The L train is *fucked*. It will supposedly run every 20 minutes. Don't bother, that's fucking insane and you'll have to wait in a bat-shit line. Take the E or 7 to Court Sq., Queens, or the A/C to Hoyt-Schemerhorn, Brooklyn, and switch to the G there. Or walk from the J/M to the G.
  4:38pm holland oats:

G gets you closer too. Come to table H4 and say hi if you're there on Sunday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Ike:

The upside is that the G will supposedly run more frequently than usual (every 8 min. or so).
Avatar 4:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ennio - brutha w/ thuh ScorpioEyes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Booz:

The G train is the badassest train in town. Doesn't even bother with Manhattan.
  4:42pm holland oats:

ironically manhattan is the stop you want
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Rob (Jerzcity):

There's also the much more pleasurable (tho not exactly quick) ferry ride from Wall St/ Pier 11 to Greenpoint
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Booz:

Manhattan is not the stop I want.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Rob (Jerzcity):

D'oh - but the WTC path train is down, so that's really only viable if you happen to be down at the lower tip of Manhatty already

Avatar 4:48pm geezerette:

Howdy! Digging Ayuo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Ike, Richard Hell has some very affectionate memories of your aunt Cookie in his hilarious autobiography.
  4:49pm David in London:

I second that emotion geezerette - this Ayuo is blowing my tired mind.
Avatar 4:52pm geezerette:

Hi David iL, sounds like Nico to me.

Swag For Life Member 4:55pm bk845:

I was wondering if this was Nico, definitely sounds like her.
Avatar 4:55pm geezerette:

I'm going to explore the Nicogram as a commercial possibility.
Avatar 4:57pm geezerette:

Sad. Christa Päffgen. Nico had a heart attack while riding a bicycle, and she hit her head as she fell.

You better believe I've seen El Topo at a cinema! (Film Forum, years ago).
  5:04pm bebe:

Didn't the guy who made El Topo brag that he RAPED a women to make a scene in the movie?...No thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm common:

Fabio all! Beeeeeersies! And...rocky 3
  5:05pm David in London:

And I saw it at The Scala, Kings Cross back in the day. On the same hallowed stage where Iggy & The Stooges played their only (1973) gig outside North America. Wistful sigh for both the cinema and the band...

Abel Ferrara retrospective at MoMA next month...
Avatar 5:10pm northguineahills:

I can't say what the context of Jodorowsky's content was intended to be, but If I only enjoyed art from 'saints', then there would be very little art to enjoy in this world (ieI: I enjoy Miles Davis' work, but he was not a nice person to his fellow people, or the women in his relationships [too many examples to cite])
  5:11pm mzzmzz:

"severe cerebral hemorrhage" by bicycle crash
Avatar 5:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Art is Art - but one issue may be - who / what do you support as a patron? W/ your dollars...
  5:12pm bebe:

If El Topo was never made, and that women never raped, I think we would all be just fine.
Avatar 5:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...otherwise - how such facts make you feel about the Art is a thing...
  5:14pm holland oats:

the hologram has spoken
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Fabio:

@bebe: Can you site an instance, an interview or article where Jodorowsky was "bragging" about raping someone?
Avatar 5:17pm northguineahills:

It's rare I spend $ on the art of the living, unless I know them personally these days. I'll ask my wife (a Jodorowsky fan), who is Mexican, to parse the quote. Spanish slang is nearly impossible to understand.
Avatar 5:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ah. Sources.
Avatar 5:18pm geezerette:

These days I need a lot of comedy; silliness especially.
One great source is any local cafe to watch people with their dogs.
Never fails.
  5:18pm holland oats:

what are we twitter now?
5:20pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

“I raped her with consent” !?!
5:21pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

I got that quote wrong. Sorry.
Avatar 5:23pm geezerette:

Really, cause if it's with consent, it isn't rape.
Avatar 5:24pm geezerette:

Avatar 5:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

All his statements?
  5:24pm Dean:

Not exactly "bragging," but still: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/28/arts/design/el-museo-del-barrio-cancels-jodorowsky-show.html

“After she had hit me long enough and hard enough to tire her, I said, ‘Now it’s my turn. Roll the cameras.’ And I really … I really … I really raped her. And she screamed.”

Over the years, The Telegraph said, Mr. Jodorowsky has given different accounts of how that scene was filmed, denying that he committed rape and suggesting that he claimed to have done so only to shock others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Booz:

He's using one of those words wrong.
Avatar 5:25pm geezerette:

Avatar 5:25pm northguineahills:

I need to see the his quotes en espanol. His English is ok, but very imperfect.
Avatar 5:26pm geezerette:

Hiya, NGH!
Avatar 5:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

What about what *she* thinks?
  5:27pm holland oats:

"Lynch's Dune sucked!" was pretty good English.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Booz:

Being Jodorowsky, his español, which is his native language, is generally imperfect.
Avatar 5:28pm geezerette:

Hahaha! :)
  5:29pm nic:

love this!!!
  5:33pm David in London:

Lynch's 'Dune' may not have been his best, but he got Dino De Laurentiis to finance 'Blue Velvet' off the back of it, so it all paid off in the end.
  5:35pm holland oats:

There's a worse Lynch movie?
Avatar 5:36pm northguineahills:

Jodorowsky was born in Chile, I spent most of his time b/tn there and Mexico.
  5:36pm David in London:

@holland oats. 'The Cowboy and the Frenchman'. By a country mile.
Avatar 5:37pm northguineahills:

Jodorowsky spent most of his time b/tn Chile and Mexico (stupid fat fingers).
Avatar 5:37pm northguineahills:

My wife will look up the original quotes, but not until she gets off of work.
  5:38pm holland oats:

@DiL That doesn't count! :)
  5:39pm David in London:

@holland oats - personally, I loathed The Straight Story. I'd take Dune over that any day.
  5:39pm holland oats:

What's next, Hotel Room, On the Air?
  5:40pm holland oats:

Straight Story is a good movie imho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Booz:

That Ligeia Mare killed me a little.
  5:41pm David in London:

I found it cutesy, twee and insincere, but that's just me. We'll have to agree to differ on that one. On a more positive note, what's your favourite?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Ike:

"Dune" is not very good narratively, but visually it's amazing in many ways. Wasn't it filmed in Mexico? It really looks like some other planet. The images really stick in my mind.
  5:42pm holland oats:

Blue Velvet or Eraserhead, you?
  5:43pm holland oats:

Dune is no Jodorowsky's Dune.
Avatar 5:44pm northguineahills:

hezya, geezerette!
  5:44pm David in London:

I could go with either of those, too. But 'Inland Empire' cudgelled my head so badly that I have a very special place for it in my heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Booz:

Who can say? I don't like Blue Velvet but I like or love all the other Lynches including Straight Story.
Avatar 5:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Among those who stalled reading 'Dune'. No spoilers!...
