OK, ready.
Have at it, Tony.

Hey, hey! Tony, Sem, βrian and everyone!
Avatar 12:05pm Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, Yvang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm fleep:

Some assembly required greetings
Avatar 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

FYI: Discogs gives 1981 as the year this tape came out -- but I think that's wrong.
Avatar 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, fleep!
Avatar 12:08pm Tony Coulter:

Also FYI: A copy of this tape sold on discogs for over $450!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Tapeheads!
Hello Tony!
Avatar 12:10pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Cmurtha:

Hello everyone. İ am glad to see I am not missing the hiss
Avatar 12:11pm Tony Coulter:

Heyas, Cmurtha! (that's the plural of "Heya.")
Avatar 12:16pm Tony Coulter:

I'm guessing many of you will recognize what's under today's tapes!?! (Not the specific record, but the generic design, used for many different releases.)
Avatar 12:22pm Tony Coulter:

As you can hear, I wasn't kidding about the lo fi–ness of (much of) this tape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Rich in Washington:

Is it a Peel Sessions record?
Avatar 12:27pm Tony Coulter:

Yep! It's the Syd Barrett one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Rich in Washington:

I love that whenever a John Peel session would play on an iPod on my car's stereo, it would be truncated as John Pee on the LED readout.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Rich in Washington:

was just listening to a radio program about Syd yesterday at work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Drat, my sound keeps cutting out. This is crazy stuff, i love it.
Avatar 12:30pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Granny T!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Avatar 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya hey hello, chresti and james!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

What's the point in clicky starring these wonderful recordings when i'll never find them again? Tape Hiss teaches us to enjoy the moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Cmurtha:

reggie mental beat music reggie mental beat music
Avatar 12:47pm Tony Coulter:

Ha!
Avatar 12:48pm Martinibomb:

Hi Tony
Avatar 12:48pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Martinibomb!
Avatar 12:50pm Martinibomb:

Not familiar with instant automatons guess I better google
Avatar 12:52pm Tony Coulter:

I file them in the same part of my brain The Homosexuals live in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Rich in Washington:

Tape Hiss is fleeting. Enjoy it while it's on. It's like listening to a tape which is being hopelessly snarled outside of its shell while you're listening to it.
Avatar 1:07pm Martinibomb:

Hi Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Rich in Washington:

I have this perhaps false memory of the music industry trying out a tape technology wherein the consumer would buy a tape that they could only listen to once; I would self destruct upon playing - like Mission Impossible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Rich in Washington:

I DO know that they tried to do something like that with CDs and DVDs fairly recently. That's google-able.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Martinibomb! How's things?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Michael 98145:

@Rich, well we WERE supposed to believe at one time the cassette tape was going to end Western Civilization. Such as it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Michael 98145:

These Tape Hiss shows are evanescent -- like the cherry blossoms of hanami.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Rich in Washington:

Michael 98145: for a few moments in the 80s, I dreamt the end of Western Civilization would really end. Sadly, we all toil on... A Nike shoe stamping on a human face for all eternity.
Avatar 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

Ahoy there, Michael 98145!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Michael 98145:

Remember when we all thought the 21st century was gonna be something better?

Heh.
Avatar 1:21pm Martinibomb:

are there any books/movies about civilization ending and whadya know its not so bad?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Michael 98145:

... except if we have to listen to WFMU on coal-powered consoles ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Rich in Washington:

Martinibomb: I think there a lot of post-civ fiction books out there. I don't know any, but I am sure they exist. There's a whole community of people who live this back-to-the-earth thing that are sort of betting on modern civilization just collapsing, but without all the turmoil that modern preppers are prepping for - just a sort of John Zerzan-inspired fantasy of a Post-Industrial world of gardening, living in mud dwellings, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Michael 98145:

enjoying these tapes. thx.
Avatar 1:25pm Tony Coulter:

One of the best song titles ever: "Linda Lu Pissed on Hitler's Kneecap."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Michael 98145:

carving cassette tapes out of cedar bark
  1:26pm βrian:

We're prepping by growing garlic and basil in our front yard.
  1:27pm spodiodi:

i have nearly half a tin of mints
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Rich in Washington:

Michael, 98145, would you accept 15 woodpecker scalps and a pint of goat's milk for one of your cedar bark cassettes? It's all I have until next Monday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Michael 98145:

i am a worm that buys lotsa records
Avatar 1:28pm Tony Coulter:

Hellodiodiodi, spodiodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

I like all of the covers of these cassettes, and am curious to hear what dreamhouse sounds like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Michael 98145:
