Avatar 1:50pm Martinibomb:

HI Darryl. Hope you're doing good today.
Avatar 1:52pm Martinibomb:

I just read scientists were able to restore brain function in some dead pigs today. Zombie pigs? Great.
Avatar 1:57pm worldsworstrecords:

hey MB! how are you?
Avatar 1:57pm worldsworstrecords:

Zombie pigs eh?
Avatar 1:58pm worldsworstrecords:

A bacon sandwich that bites back? No thanks!
Avatar 1:58pm Martinibomb:

hah! yah let's restore brain function to that piece of bacon. I can see a horror movie premise somewhere...

How's stuff, WWR?
Avatar 2:01pm Mr Fab:

Hey! That Weird Al track was backed by Southern Culture on the Skids btw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Rich in Washington:

Joe Meek in the background!
Avatar 2:01pm worldsworstrecords:

s'all good thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow. I didn't know that was actually SCOTS on that track! I just thought it was a jab at them, but didn't know they why and what of it.
Avatar 2:02pm Martinibomb:

oh gawd that side stick on this is hilarious!
Avatar 2:02pm worldsworstrecords:

It was, Rich, Night of the Vampire
Avatar 2:03pm worldsworstrecords:

Atrocious, isn't it MB?
Avatar 2:04pm worldsworstrecords:

Lee Perry at his worse
Avatar 2:05pm Martinibomb:

gotta do a lot of terrible stuff before you get good.
Avatar 2:06pm worldsworstrecords:

The next song is definitely NSFW, in case anyone sensitive is listening nearby
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Rich in Washington:

Wow. This is something else. Not sure what, though.
Avatar 2:07pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar 2:07pm Martinibomb:

I hope my virgin ears can take it
Avatar 2:08pm worldsworstrecords:

me too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Rich in Washington:

Ah! I used to have this!
Avatar 2:09pm worldsworstrecords:

I wish I had read up on him before I pieced this episode together...
Avatar 2:09pm worldsworstrecords:

...I had no idea he was such a controversial character
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Rich in Washington:

This was from that weird period where SST sought to diversify their roster with weirdo art bands - Zoogz, Negativland, Sonic Youth, et al.
Avatar 2:11pm Martinibomb:

I've never heard zoogz rift? Guess I better do some reading now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Rich in Washington:

I never could quite get into his thing. He was sort of a (consciously) outsider figure with at times Zappa/Beefheart aspirations. He was also sort of affiliated with John Trubee.
Avatar 2:13pm worldsworstrecords:

This was issued as a single in 1977.. the year that punk really took off here in the UK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Rich in Washington:

I remember picking up a huge amount of SST material during the just-burst Grunge bubble, as lots of indy label releases found their way into this then-new record chain called Waves, and then everything was vastly cut, like down to $1 - $5. I remember just cleaning out their cool stuff and stuff I had heard about, but never had. I think I got 3 or more Zoogz Rift CDs out of it.
Avatar 2:16pm worldsworstrecords:

A bargain!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Rich in Washington:

I just remember this short period where retailers were taking chances on really weird stuff because they - perhaps characteristically - had no clue. I mean, if this Nirvana band hit it big, why not this Zoogz character?
Avatar 2:18pm worldsworstrecords:

Oprah's gay! No!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Rich in Washington:

Chief Kouffreh is like someone set the comments section to a news site to music.
Avatar 2:19pm worldsworstrecords:

I love him!
Avatar 2:19pm worldsworstrecords:

But he needs an editor
Avatar 2:25pm Martinibomb:

Wow this is early Rodney? what the hell? I've never really looked into Danerfields earlier work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Rich in Washington:

Oh man. Is that THE Rodney Dangerfield?
Avatar 2:25pm worldsworstrecords:

It's not THAT Rodney!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 2:26pm Martinibomb:

ooooh okay! I was like wtf LOL
Avatar 2:26pm worldsworstrecords:

He was very pissed off at being confused with the guy on the record. Apparently Rodney Dangerfield was an old pseudonym used in the theatre by several people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Hopey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow. That's fascinating! I had no idea that was even HIS pseudonym.
Avatar 2:28pm worldsworstrecords:

Yes... Jack Roy was RD's real name
Avatar 2:28pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi Hopey!
Avatar 2:33pm Martinibomb:

he comes out of that whole catskills comedy scene. I hate the movie Dirty Dancing but it is set in that time and place so I find the environment of that film more interesting than anything else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Rich in Washington:

Wow! How did I miss this when I was doing my Bowie tribute!
Avatar 2:34pm Martinibomb:

what was Shaun Cassidy thinking??? This is sooooo bad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Hello, All! This Shaun Cassidy is AMAZING.
Avatar 2:35pm worldsworstrecords:

haha! Next time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Rich in Washington:

Every generation gets the shit popstar/demon it deserves.
Avatar 2:35pm worldsworstrecords:

I've got another Todd R cut next week (I think!)... his version of XTC's Dear God. It's just appalling
Avatar 2:36pm worldsworstrecords:

Glad you like it Hopey

reading the (badly) translated Wiki entry on Hector...
"After being criticized for being covered in front of the flag, he opens it to Jean Yanne who offers him to go "to cook an egg on the flame of the Unknown Soldier "
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Otis Fodder:

Wish I could be here for all the shows live weekly. Such an archive listener these days with work ... except for today, get to listen to all shows. Yay!
