Avatar 1:11am coelacanth∅:

trux sounding good like the early days
Avatar 1:12am Bill Mac:

Curious to see whether the whole album holds up.
Avatar 1:15am coelacanth∅:

time will tell...but i have heard a few tracks and liked them all. certainly more "produced" than the early stuff, but not as bland as some of the later first era material.
  1:16am rw:

Jon Spencer cracks me up. We were talking at work the other day saying he's a little like an updated David Lee Roth!
Avatar 1:17am coelacanth∅:

Avatar 1:28am Bill Mac:

I'll do that when I get home. take it light Mike
  1:42am rw:

Ha! If nothing else JS and DLR have a similar manic energy and similar styles of showmanship. Maybe a little of the same cheese too. Not knocking either of them. Just thought it was funny when we came up with that comparison at work the other day.
  1:45am rw:

I feel very lucky to have a job where we can geek out about shit like that all day!
Avatar 1:46am BEAVO:

Overend Watts sang on this one
Late 58
Avatar 1:46am Bill Mac:

it's rare that you can talk on that level at work
Avatar 1:49am Bill Mac:

I played it more as a tribute to guitarist Ariel Bender, whose out there with Hunter and Morgan Fisher doing the final MTH tour. Glad they're out there doing it, but I couldn't see forking over 150 bucks for something I actually saw in 74 and paid no more than 10.
1:49am farmerrye from Santa Cruz california:

Thanks for the selections got u locked out here
Avatar 1:51am Bill Mac:

Cheers Farmerrye! Thanks for keeping me company
Avatar 1:52am BEAVO:

Real name Luther Grovner also of Spooky Tooth
Avatar 1:55am Bill Mac:

@BEAVO That is correct sir! Check out youtube for reunion footage. Someone actually posted an entire show this week. Looks like fun.
Avatar 1:56am BEAVO:

They did a couple of reunions with Mick Ralphs and The drummer from the Pretenders Martin. I have the cds
Avatar 1:57am BEAVO:

I guess Ralph’s is not well as he’s no longer doing Bad Co shows either.
  2:03am rw:

$140? Don't forget the service charge!
Avatar 2:04am BEAVO:

Well who’s left? Hunter is pushin 80 Is Verdon Allen on this tour?
Avatar 2:06am Lost Cause:

your REO speedwagon reference made me LOL so hard, they used to come to our little cow poke town for the fair when I was kid. My friend used to call them Sorry Old Speedwagon. ;D
Avatar 2:06am Bill Mac:

Verden wasn't asked back. It think he wanted to reprise the 74 band - or who is left from it
Avatar 2:10am Bill Mac:

@Lost Cause It's true! it would be suck a buzzkill The bill woould be AC/DC, UFO and .... REO Spuddarngon! I would have much preferred someone better, like Molly Hatchet.
Avatar 2:12am BEAVO:

looks like it’s over the last date was the 10th at the Beacon
  2:13am rw:

Just checked out a clip of the Mott '74. Sometimes the legends are better left as legends but they seem to be having a genuinely good time. Seems like it would be a fun show. Nostalgia seems to be at the fore for sure.
Avatar 2:14am BEAVO:

REO was the go to fill in band.
Avatar 2:14am Bill Mac:

Oh well, I'll kind of miss them. My favorite video of them that I caught was a small after party where they were eating cake. Never saw Ian eat anything before, much less cake. it was revelation
  2:14am rw:

Oh, and speaking of shows, my daughter and I are going to see M. Moctar I think next weekend. Pretty excited about it.
Avatar 2:16am Lost Cause:

Wow, UFO and REO in one concert? that's like watching the Grateful Dead with Michael Bolton/Kenny G.
Avatar 2:17am Bill Mac:

I think they're coming to Monty. I hope to be going to that one. Hope it's a good one
Avatar 2:18am Bill Mac:

@Lost Cause Aaargh! BTW UFO are doing their last tour as we speck.
Avatar 2:19am tak:

aw crap it's that friday. thanks capn beefheart for reminding me it's a holiday.
Avatar 2:21am tak:

  2:42am rw:

Bill, did you play this song earlier? Or was that Dave Spazz?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43am Scraps:

I used to go regularly to Barbés, back to the opening, and Jeffrey Cobb (WFMU dj) was bartending. Somehow Shrimp Boat came up, and I enthused. Jeffrey then introduced me to Steven Joerg, another regular who runs AUM Fidelity, a mostly avant jazz label who WFMU plays many of. Steven told me he really started his label so that he could publish a three (or four) CD collection of Shrimp Boat. He’s the biggest Shrimp Boat fan around, apparently.
Avatar 2:44am Bill Mac:

Could've been Dave. He must have brought his own copy. Quite the concidence
  2:44am rw:

Or maybe it's just me hallucinating from too many hours at the computer.
Avatar 2:46am Bill Mac:

@Scraps We have that comp! I think its a comp anyway. It's called Something Grand. I was trying to suss out the timeline on that material
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47am Scraps:

Sorry, Barbès, not Barbés
  2:47am rw:

Just looked it up. It was a diff. version. Band called Delight. Track called That Lucky Old Sun. Nice coincidence. Felt a little like bookends or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am Scraps:

Yep, it’s a comp, buts lots of stuff is new
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am mauri:

what a show mister mac. my soundcard finally died half way through. till next week zzzzeros
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am Scraps:

Avatar 2:49am Bill Mac:

Avatar 2:50am Lost Cause:

loved the eclecticism in this set. nice.
Avatar 2:51am Bill Mac:

@LC Figgers, I don't know what I'm doing right now...
  2:52am rw:

I'm out too. Thanks Mr. Mac! Unless something goes horribly wrong I'm planning to be asleep during your next couple fill-ins. But I DO check out the occasional archive, so there's a possibility... Hope they go well regardless!
Take care everyone!
Avatar 2:53am Bill Mac:

Thanks rw. I'm doing a nooner for Uncle Michael on the 26th . Otherwise, I'll see you around these parts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56am Scraps:

This song has lots of Nilsson’s famous friends on backing vocals, I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59am Scraps:

It’s Son of Schmilsson, by the way
Avatar 2:59am Bill Mac:

OK all, thanks for being round. Perhaps I'll catch you next week!
