Wow. I just drove past the craziest thing. Somebody Google Dodgers house La Brea Ave. I’m sure there’s a photo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm G:

A local artist did it for the Dodgers' World Series run last year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm chresti:

That's great!
Avatar 10:07pm northguineahills:

These last two sets is what I needed to wake up after a 4.5 hour nap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm TheNewLexGofer:

I used to have this albun! "California," "Stormy." Marty is the MAN!

Wanda's vocals remind me of Peggy Lee's on "is that all there is?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm zpulpa:

hey friends! I just saw "Us", it was good, and freaky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm chresti:

Great seque
Avatar 10:27pm Franco Twinkie:

The Sunglows are the type of band the vatos at my high school would blast in the quad at nutrition break, doing sonic battle with the stoners under the patio blasting Ten Years After. Needless to say, they were all totally wrecked by 10a.m.
Avatar 10:34pm coelacanth∅:

your stoners did ten years after? damn, our stoners did mostly grateful dead.
i like the dead (with some significant reservations, but...) but i would've preferred to hear 10 years after in the smoking lounge.r
Avatar 10:35pm Franco Twinkie:

I saw the Dramatics opening for The Ike and Tina Turner Review in 1973. They wore bright yellow tuxedos and had the most amazing dance steps. A great vocal group live. The audience went nuts when they spun around and stamped their feet.
Avatar 10:36pm coelacanth∅:

wow bizarre and wonderful cover of a bizarre and wonderful song!
Avatar 10:38pm coelacanth∅:

Franco i wish i knew then what i know now.
(although i still wouldn't have gone to see the dramatics in 1973 -being barely more than a zygote at the time)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm TheNewLexGofer:

I'd love to change the world... but the Sunglows rule!
Avatar 10:39pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, their were only a few dead heads in my high school, me been one of them.
Avatar 10:44pm coelacanth∅:

our school was choc full of 'em. people sometimes played their funkboxes in the smoking lounge (outside)
getting stoned there one day while cutting a class turned me around on them.
a really slow version of tennessee jed and this blazed floyd head started grooving.
Avatar 10:46pm Franco Twinkie:

What years were you in high school? I was 1970-73.
Avatar 10:48pm coelacanth∅:

were(/are) you a vato?
Avatar 10:49pm coelacanth∅:

graduated in 1980
Avatar 10:50pm coelacanth∅:

(hopefully that question's not offensive! you know i don't mean any)
Avatar 10:53pm Franco Twinkie:

No. I would sometimes get shit from the vatos. Nothing serious, just Hey Surfer blah blah. Even though I wasn't a surfer. It was just the way I looked that bugged some of them.Torn levis and striped shirts.
Avatar 11:01pm coelacanth∅:

i was picked on up until jr high school. then i got accepted by the popular kids but never close!
i guess it was my appearance as well that bugged them. thrift store fashion.
Avatar 11:03pm Franco Twinkie:

I was an outcast. Big surprise, ha!
Avatar 11:04pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 11:05pm coelacanth∅:

haha! i mean sweet to William DeVaughn!
Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Jinx:

Love this song.
Avatar 11:06pm Franco Twinkie:

Dig this, Coel. I saw Arthur Lee do this song at the Whiskey.
Avatar 11:07pm coelacanth∅:

my computer has a major lag going on

Franco yeah not surprised!
and i got the impression your were mexican or part mexican somewhere along the way, hence my question before
Avatar 11:08pm coelacanth∅:

that's a trip! what year?
Avatar 11:09pm Franco Twinkie:

I am indeed. But a goddamned freak none the less! Arthur? 1978.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm TheNewLexGofer:

Arthur Lee is Love.
Avatar 11:11pm northguineahills:

Halo Benders!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm zpulpa:

whoa i looove this song!
Avatar 11:12pm coelacanth∅:

i guess Bryan MacLean's not around to defend an alternative opinion.
Avatar 11:13pm Franco Twinkie:

The gangster lean was a big thing when I was younger. It's still the right thing to do if you drive a suave 6-4.
Avatar 11:14pm coelacanth∅:

by the way NL Gofer nice pun before! (or... reference?)
Avatar 11:15pm Franco Twinkie:

We talked to Bryan one night for awhile outside the Whisky. He was a real nice guy.
Avatar 11:16pm coelacanth∅:

i used to laugh when i saw dudes driving that way! i didn't know there was a name for it until i heard that song and asked someone
..."suave 6-4"?
  11:20pm Mr. Palchepo.:

Man. I haven’t heard this in ages. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm RomanDogBird:

hott set
Avatar 11:25pm northguineahills:

@Franco: growing up in a Southern suburb, we only had one student of Mexican decent, and he hung out w/ my punk rock friends. Heck, we only had one Jewish student, and our HS had 3000 students (typical Southern demographics).
Avatar 11:28pm Franco Twinkie:

NGH. Where in Dixie?
  11:28pm sufferwords:

Yo Marty - L.A. represent - I help the kids at my music school out with their knowledge - I assign your show as homework - peace

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm TheNewLexGofer:

Marty and Brewdog Elvis Juice. Can't beat this buzz.
Avatar 11:42pm coelacanth∅:

i did not, and do not know if anyone of mexican descent attended the high school i did. i doubt it. it was a bit of a bubble.

Franco did you have Jerry Garcia hair back then?!
Avatar 11:43pm coelacanth∅:

...in concept this could be so terrible but they really killed it! keeping the despair-vibe
  11:46pm crowe:

Just getting in from work, I leave WFMU on for my animals. First time coming home to hear the show, and really enjoying this. Thanks, Marty!
Avatar 11:46pm Franco Twinkie:

No, The Garcia thing only happened a few years ago.
Avatar 11:48pm northguineahills:

@Franc0: Florigia (north Florida, it's more like Georgia then FL).
Avatar 11:49pm Franco Twinkie:

Got it.
Avatar 11:49pm northguineahills:

@crowe: If I'm leaving to just go for a jaunt to the store, or a similar small trip, I leave WFMU on so when I get back home it's there to greet me.
  11:52pm Marc15:

Can you say misogynistic?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm TheNewLexGofer:

"Sure. I knew you could."

--Mister Rogers
Avatar 11:55pm coelacanth∅:

i'm having trouble saying it
Avatar 11:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Marty, thanks for letting us kick it at your place. Oh yeah, I just remembered, I had a dream that your dog, Snake, was running around in the back yard at my moms house, agitated because someone was shooting off fireworks.
Avatar 11:58pm coelacanth∅:

...maybe my mouth wants me to wait to say it when an actually misogynistic song comes on.
Avatar 11:59pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Marty! Brilliant mix
tchau peeps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm TheNewLexGofer:

Marty, thank you. I'll be back!
