Hey Sam, hey good people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm fleep:

Quick learning curve on "Yolo Causeway" what a fine idea, our excess water still runs out the ocean, we need groundwater recharge bad.
Avatar 9:57pm TDK60:

..chresti - NYC was sunny~cold~windy today.
Avatar 10:04pm still b/p:

Veryyy windy today. Hanging of a couple of sheets to dry on the line outside pretty quickly caught me up and wrapped me up in a Buster Keaton moment.
Avatar 10:09pm northguineahills:

It's been around 55F/13C and rainy all day in FL...

Some Pat Metheny DNA in the Zig Zag
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Sam Segal:

NGH, I believe this artist Euglossine is from your neck of the woods.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm chresti:

A chunk of Carmichael's cloud might be coming down here soon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Sam Segal:

Fried out Pat Metheny, absolutely, fleep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm chresti:

I like the visual of Buster getting wrapped up in flapping sheets
Avatar 10:17pm still b/p:

"Hey, HEY, you, YOU -- you Carmichael's cloud?"
Avatar 10:17pm TDK60:

..a Buster Keaton moment in the back yard sounds very Zen.
Avatar 10:20pm northguineahills:

@Sam: I might have seen them. I've been to so many shows here, I have a hard time keeping track. I should check my stack of recs/cassettes I bought at said shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm chresti:

Haha still b/p
Avatar 10:26pm TDK60:

..the chords in Zig Zag were pleasant. (Maybe I should listen to this Metheny of which they speaketh?)
  10:26pm Carmichael:

He he
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm chresti:

ngh- do you see Mick Jagger wandering around Florida?
  10:29pm Cfrolling135:

@chresti- lol
@TDK- check out orechstrion by Pat Metheny- there is a documentary about it on YouTube
Avatar 10:31pm northguineahills:

@chresti: I doubt he'd wander o'er this aways…

(I have a hard time recognizing people on the street, as I'm usually daydreaming, even friends. I once sat across from Bjork on the subway for a few stops while reading a Wire where she was on the cover, I only noticed when she got off).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Gummy Spaceseed Toner:

still b/p: i adore this gal! I took her from a post by Station Manager Ken.
  10:53pm Carmichael:

This music is in my face. Kicking me in the face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Sam Segal:

Hahaha, I'll be taking my foot off the gas sooner or later, Carmichael.
Avatar 10:58pm TDK60:

..I'm gonna dance right into my bed...ciao..
  10:59pm Carmichael:

The beretta song. I had to run away like a coward.
Avatar 11:00pm still b/p:

Well, GST, you have to make the outfit...and dance it.
Meanwhile, she needs to take her rightful place among the dancing goddesses across history.

Avatar 11:31pm northguineahills:

I think I have this Eberhard Weber album...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Sam Segal:

It pushes the limits to almost "Cheesy ECM" territory, but I really dig it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm Sam Segal:

This is the self-made instrument you're hearing currently: f4.bcbits.com...
Avatar 11:39pm northguineahills:

@Sam: most of his did.

well, I got to iron my suit etc, if I don't get back, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm Sam Segal:

Happy ironing, NGH!
  11:44pm Dean:

The notion that there is a "cheesy" ECM is, to my mind, a myth. Prior to tuning in tonight I was listening to a Craig Taborn ECM record. It has that arguably "cheesy" ECM sound, which has everything to do with the engineering and production, the "house sound," of Eicher's records. But when you have amassed a catalog as vast and exploratory as his, "cheesy" simply doesn't enter the equation. I can think of a lot of celebrated artists played on WFMU whose music is almost by definition cheesy, and yet it's celebrated for that fact. I won't name names, though I have done so in various comments over the years.
Avatar 11:47pm northguineahills:

I think I mentioned the double LP of Ricardo Villalobos remixing the whole ECM back catalog.
  11:48pm Dean:

I keep meaning to grab that one, and I seem to recall seeing it in a used bin years ago, but passing it up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Sam Segal:

Yeah, it's not really Eicher's production that's cheesy to me. It's a certain cloying, melodic twinkle-twinkle on some ECM records that I find cheesy, but of course I really enjoy a lot of music I would describe as cheesy. Definitely not a disqualifying aesthetic. "Cheesy" is obviously not the most precise word.
  12:00am Dean:

I consider a friend of mine in high school whose album-acquiring prowess was monumental, but who referred routinely to Henry Cow and assorted Canterbury-style bands as "diddling around." Which of course fairly describes their music from a certain point of view. He was implicitly contrasting their records to, say, the Wagnerian/Mahlerian magnum opus progressive rock bands: Yes, Pink Floyd, ELP, Le Orme, Grobschnitt, etc. I soon came to recognize that what he called "diddling around" was a perfectly legitimate and enjoyable mode of musical production, not worthy of being burdened by the derogatory implication of the otherwise accurate characterization.
Avatar 12:00am northguineahills:

Holy shit, Euglossine is playing here in 3 weeks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am fleep:

And we dismount. Another horse in the stable, thanks, Sam.
