Avatar 12:17pm david w:

Hello, chresti. Super great to have you in on this.
Avatar 12:19pm Sem:

Ah, you've started the revolution without me:-(

That's alright, I'll catch up! Hello, David, Ruth, and Ridgewoodians everywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm chresti:

Number 9 frightened me, when I was 11
Avatar 12:20pm david w:

Thanks, Sem. We only shoot flowers but we are out for change!
Avatar 12:20pm coelacanth∅:

greetings David & Ruth and every1
(and then later, every9)
Avatar 12:22pm david w:

Yay, coelacanth∅!
Avatar 12:23pm coelacanth∅:

revolution 9 opened my world up when i first heard it
Avatar 12:24pm david w:

9 didn't scare me but it cracked me open a bit. Have to listen to it every now and then. Always hear something new.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm fleep:

Up against the wall greetings to Iron DJ david w and listeners of anarchy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm chresti:

my brother would play it every night while I'm falling asleep, imagining riots and people on fire
Avatar 12:28pm david w:

I think I am more of a bamboo DJ, but the anarchy part is true.
Avatar 12:30pm david w:

chresti! what a way to jump start dreams!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm doctorjazz:

Always great to hear Monk!
Bo Carter sounded like a country artist rather than bluesman... If course, the dividers between genres wasn't so fixed back then (record companies decided African American singers should only play blues)
Avatar 12:33pm david w:

More truth from djazz.
Avatar 12:34pm coelacanth∅:

our family had the beatles on a pedestal but somehow the only 2 albums in the house were meet the beatles and "the beatles' 2nd album" -and what came on wabc-am. my older sister asked for "The Beatles" for xmas and of course the whole family sat around the living room to hear it for the first time.
revolution 9 confused us!
...but as it was the beatles, i (and i alone) figured there must be something going on that mattered, so i listened.
Avatar 12:36pm david w:

The Beatles tried to contact Stockhausen to meet, but he refused, labelling them trivial.
Avatar 12:37pm coelacanth∅:

despite that stupidity on his part, i still like Stockhausen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm doctorjazz:

WABC FM is where I started listening to psychedelia, wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm chresti:

Django Reinhardt was also on the family jukebox
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm doctorjazz:

That was a cool family jukebox, Chresti! We had The Barry Sisters Greatest Yiddish Hits.
Avatar 12:42pm coelacanth∅:

heh, i started working on a cover of revolution 9 a few years ago then one day decided to see what other covers were out there and there were several.
i don't want to hear any of them because i don't want them to affect mine in any way, in case i ever get back to finish mine.
Avatar 12:43pm coelacanth∅:

chresti you had an actual jukebox in the house?
Avatar 12:44pm david w:

Some cool family playlists in this bunch. We had Broadway showtune albums, but they did pay for me to go to music school and get corrupted!
Avatar 12:48pm coelacanth∅:

my family discouraged me from pursuing a career in anything having to do with music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm chresti:

@coel -a record player/stereo that was on continuously, after school, and all weekend
Avatar 12:51pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, what were their brilliant suggestions for what you should be doing with your time instead of playing music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Dave Sewelson:

My folks suggested optometry instead of music...big mark-up in frames..
Avatar 12:54pm Franco Twinkie:

...and I will assume it was your mother and father who did the discouraging. Your siblings probably cheered you on, no?
Avatar 12:56pm david w:

Greetings Franco T and Dave S! After I committed to the arts my mother wished the other kids to be "a jock and a lawyer" She got her wish.
Avatar 12:57pm coelacanth∅:

Franco they had no suggestions; just that only a tiny fraction of lucky extremely gifted musicians make it in music. it never crossed their unadventurous and blind minds to gear me for music engineering.
Avatar 12:59pm Franco Twinkie:

That's what you do, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm chresti:

Haha Dave S
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Ike:

Although I prefer the faster single version to the album version, both are good.
Avatar 1:14pm coelacanth∅:

this is Brilliant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Ike:

Yes, I quite like these!
Avatar 1:20pm david w:

Interesting what they pluck out from the original to revisit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm steveo:

hello! mary, your voice sounds funny today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm steveo:

sorry i missed those revolution takes, i'll have to hit the archives...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm steveo:

i also haven't heard that monk,,,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm steveo:

i was out visiting max neuhaus in times square, which is a good thing to do
Avatar 1:32pm david w:

steveo! I'mm glad that Neuhaus survived the massacre of Times Sq.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm steveo:

yes same, it was touch and go for some time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm chresti:

Love this Misterioso
Avatar 1:36pm david w:

Wonderful album by Min.
Avatar 1:48pm coelacanth∅:

i just listened to an early version of "corrina, corrina" (or"corrine corrina") a week ago but i now don't remember who it was. maybe it was Bo Carter i was out of the room when it was on before... but i also listened to "corrina blues" (?) by Blind Lemon Jefferson, which came before the Bo song.
i have to wonder how far back the roots go...
Avatar 1:52pm david w:

Corrina has been rebuilt, rewritten, revised, renamed, and renewed dozens of times but it started with Bo Carter in 1928, who took it from ???
Avatar 1:55pm coelacanth∅:

Jefferson's came slightly earlier, though i can't say now how different it is. (even though i just heard it recently)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Webhamster Henry:

Just got in, I'll have to live the revolution in the archives.
Avatar 1:59pm david w:

Hi, Henry. We've got a little revolution left to go...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Webhamster Henry:

You could probably break up Revolution #9 into pieces and play it like "In C".

Avatar 2:01pm david w:

A Brooklyn yo back to Jeff G!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar 2:03pm david w:

Revolution In C! I like it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm doctorjazz:

My intro to the blues! Love this version !
Avatar 2:09pm david w:

Al Kooper's keyboard. Talk about oy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm doctorjazz:

Jesse Ed Davis would have been the guitar on this album ,though I just hear Taj on this track .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Jeff Golick:

Thought it was a koto for a second.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm doctorjazz:

In a million years I wouldn't have guessed Frisell what a great recording!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Webhamster Henry:

I always liked when Hoagie would show up in some movie and sing something, whether it made any plot sense or not.
Avatar 2:20pm coelacanth∅:

in the end you can play revolution 1 and revolution 9 at the same time, as it was intended. (which is now available on the 50th aniversary release of "the beatles", as well as a bootleg on youboob, where i got it from)
Avatar 2:22pm david w:

Really? That I did not know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm steveo:

@coel wow!
Avatar 2:33pm coelacanth∅:

well, after i posted that i thought it might seem a little jerky, like i'm suggesting how to program your (excellent) expedition you're taking us on. but i didn't mean it that way!
i just meant "in the end" like -"in the grand scheme of things" kinda way.
Avatar 2:35pm david w:

Gotcha, coel. I understood that. But it is curious!
Avatar 2:47pm Sem:

OK, Riley, Riley good, this.
Avatar 2:50pm coelacanth∅:

yeah i don't know why the original rev 1 got chopped off when the weirdness kicked in; but i'm pretty glad it did. it resulted in revolution 9 which i think opened a lot of people's minds to alternate definitions of what music is. it would've been just a long coda with sound effects, which had been done before. (though maybe not to the same degree?)
Avatar 2:52pm Franco Twinkie:

I love the GTO's! A home town favorite. To bad the their album, Permanent Damage will remain in oblivion forever.
  3:09pm Miguel:

You almost forgot m’name there, David! Great show so far!
Avatar 3:10pm david w:

Apologies, Miguel. I'm juggling as fast as I can!
  3:11pm Miguel:

No problem! Gave me an excuse to check in.
Avatar 3:38pm coelacanth∅:

also, www.youtube.com...
Avatar 3:43pm david w:

Thanks coel, and Franco T, eager to hear the stuff I didn't know.
Avatar 3:44pm coelacanth∅:

i must depart -been only hearing bits and pieces for a while now
anyway, unfortunately

- most excellent David Thanks!
Avatar 3:44pm david w:

thank you!
Avatar 3:46pm coelacanth∅:

...oh, and there's another youboob video of that album that's at least 10 minutes longer, but i don't know where the extra material is from because it's not worth listening to, the sound quality is so bad.
Avatar 4:27pm Franco Twinkie:

David, The GTO's are an endurance test for most people. I found two copies of their album in the cut out bin at a local hardware store in 1973 for a dollar, and have been torturing people with it ever since.
Avatar 4:28pm david w:

Ha! Endurance is my middle name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Webhamster Henry:

Frasconi is rockin' those glasses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Webhamster Henry:

The GTOs love cones and ooh-ooh men and Rodney Bingenheimer.
Avatar 4:38pm david w:

I'll have to decode that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, Miguel!
Avatar 4:42pm david w:

Odd and wonderful sound palette this trio.
Avatar 4:44pm Franco Twinkie:

The Cones were these guys that hung out at the Whisky with processed hair that resembles ice cream cones sticking out of their heads. The Ooh-Ooh man was one of the guys in Steppenwolf.
Avatar 4:46pm david w:

Cool. Thanks.
  4:47pm Miguel:

Hey Jeff! Thanks, David. I forgot how otherworldly this trio was!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm steveo:

wow -- thanks David & everyone!
Avatar 4:50pm david w:

thank you all, whoo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Jeff Golick:

Suzy Creamcheese is my favorite Zappa.
Avatar 4:56pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Here comes your 10th favorite Zappa: Sound collage resurrection "Less this mess (making sure I don't fall out)".

Up momentarily here on the Drummer stream. Come? wfmu.org...
Avatar 4:57pm Franco Twinkie:

David, Uncle Meat was an important part of the social fabric that spawned The GTO's and other types of social weirdness back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm chresti:

Thanks David!
