@Goyim, Yes, you used to be able to hear some good stuff back in the day. The Einsteins had something good going with WHFS when it was in Bethesda, and the AM WAYE was pretty good as well. Things started taking a slide when Georgetown U stopped broadcasting. Now 'RNR is about it, mostly filled out with ex-HFS jocks. Thank goodness for the interwebs. Pretty amazing that we are in the radio range of the nation's capital without a decent station.

@Phillippe there's good radio out of DC still for sure -- WPFW and 92Q for two -- but dial segregation has increased wildly and "white" radio is rough going. The left side of the dial was a magical multicultural wonderland in the 70s and 80s for me in Annapolis, and then there was -- as you say --102.3 and the early days of 99.1.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am

@JFFP I can't deal with 98 Rock. They talk more than Stashe Ken and their music selection is nothing great. I guess I could count WTMD in the halfway decent music mix. I just put on the FMU app and bluetooth to the radio when I'm driving and I'm a happy camper when I'm driving.

I guess since I grew up in this area in from late 70s to early 83 I got spoiled by WNEWFM and WDHA and has a bit of a culture shock when I moved to Florida and discovered how much the rock stations suck down there and could not wait to get back up here on vacation

@KP ...and the bluegrass of the last 10 years was already a pale, corporate-donator-friendly version of what WAMU used to play. The Dick Spottswood show was astonishing, kind of DC's hillbilly version of the Secret Museum of the Air.

@Joe, regarding records you don’t like: as a kid in the late 70s I did that Columbia House offer where they sent you 12 albums for a penny, then have to buy x records down the road. It was hard to find a redeeming song on some of the records. Still i felt kind of guilty and wondered what kind of life of crime it would lead me to. Apparently one clever guy used different mailing addresses to accumulate 26,000 such records. I think my haul included Foghat Stone Blue, Nazareth
