It's a beauty!
Avatar 12:36am Wede:

This MacKay track is great, looking forward to this LP!
Avatar 12:36am Jeff Conklin:

The whole record is so great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am DocBlueDog:

Been listening to archives all weeek. Already donated so its just AG for now :) Good to be live again.
Avatar 12:39am Adamsworth:

Oh yeah, last week I missed listening live because I was at a coworker's birthday party, and ended up so loaded I texted my boss asking for a raise for me and my coworker! And it worked, ha ha!
Avatar 12:41am Jeff Conklin:

Nice, adam, lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am DocBlueDog:

Never been much for the Dead. I saw them live once and that made me see how great it is live. But I love the first and last hours so much its got me learning enjoy the middle hour too. Thanks :)
Avatar 12:42am Jeff Conklin:

There's always one person who feels the need to diss the Dead during my show. Thanks for being the guy this week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am TomDash:

Hey Jeff - good luck raising the $$$! Just heard a shoutout to my mom - Melissa from Silver Spring, MD - since I don’t have a full time show yet, I had her spread the wealth to the shows that turn me onto new jams...
Avatar 12:43am Adamsworth:

He's getting into the Dead now though, I think, DocBlueDog?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am DocBlueDog:

That comment is catagorically wrong JEFF. And really does not apply to my post. I said that I am learning to really enjoy the Dead listening to your show which is great. That was a completely unnecessary twist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am DocBlueDog:

Yes Adam. That is clearly what I said.
Avatar 12:44am Jeff Conklin:

Ok ok sorry i misread it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am Fuzzy:

At least Jeff acknowledges your presence.
Avatar 12:45am Adamsworth:

Chill out buddies! I'm sure Jeff is just stressed about trying to raise money!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am DocBlueDog:

No Prob -Thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am DocBlueDog:

Water under the bridge. I love this shows so much. It's all I've been listening to all week. I donated swag for live the week before the drive started so I'm catching up on past AG's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am DocBlueDog:

Yay MOOKIE... on to game 7 :)
Avatar 12:53am Jeff Conklin:

Thanks, Doc.

And hey Fuzzy! Sorry its crazy in here. Love you all, obviously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am DocBlueDog:

Yay fuzzy luv lol

Avatar 1:12am Jeff Conklin:

Avatar 1:13am gregorianpants:

ryley fucking legend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am Jeffrey Davison:

Willie Lane LP still up for grabs....$20 or more gets you a chance to win it. Great guitarist. This Feeding Tube LP will likely disappear, as did the first press.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am Jeffrey Davison:

Thanks to everyone who has pledged thus far, and those of you just about to head to the phone or computer to send some money love our way...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am Jeffrey Davison:

This Jerry Garcia Band track is from the grand prize tonight, a 7 CD set. A must have for Avant Ghetto listeners. Only $75 gets you a chance to walk away with this beauty.
  1:28am opurt:

Thank you Jeff and Jeffrey for the Willie Lane LP :-) Great show this evening!
  1:30am Andrea in Jersey City:

Hi! I pledged already today. great show tho!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am Jeffrey Davison:

One of the great releases of last year, Ghost Forests...Meg Baird and Mary Lattimore still up for grabs for $20 pledge or more.
Avatar 1:52am Adamsworth:

I listened to last week's show thanks to the archives, and I love Ira, but I'm glad you are cohosting this week Jeffrey!
  1:54am Jeff Conklin:

Hosting with Ira was awesome and hosting with Jeff is awesome. So much awesome.
Avatar 1:55am Adamsworth:

Yeah, WFMU is such a treasure. It's amazing it still exists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am Jeffrey Davison:

I don't know how WFMU stays alive after all we've been through over the years, but the listeners always come through for us! Thank you all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am DocBlueDog:

Yes. That's what i was saying The context of the first hour and the last hour really make me appreciate the Dead in new ways. So cool.
Avatar 2:12am Jeff Conklin:

Thanks for getting it, Doc!
Avatar 2:13am Adamsworth:

Oh man, I found out about Ned Collette from this show, and I actually turned a friend on to it who isn't usually into like folky music, he really liked it too!!
Avatar 2:14am Jeff Conklin:

It's proggy!
Avatar 2:15am Adamsworth:

The vocals on this song are pretty Floyd-y though I don't think he likes PF. He is into Robert Wyatt though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20am DocBlueDog:

As an aside for anyone interested... I'm a philosophy geek. One of my heroes is Elaine Pagels who is famous for writing many books like The Gnostic Gospels. I am currently reading her new memoir which is called Why Religion? In the first chapter she talks about being friends with Jerry Garcia before he had a band. She tells about their friendship with Paul and how shocked she was when Jerry and Paul where in a car crash and Paul died. A little later she writes, "After leaving California, when I heard that Jerry Garcia's group of musicians had broken up and that he'd started another band that he called The Grateful Dead, I realized that the name must have resonated from the crash he had survived 5 years earlier." ... pretty cool. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am Jeffrey Davison:

The Ned Collette double LP is still available. You can get in the running for a pledge of $20 or more. You swag for lifers, you can also check in here and give part of your larger pledge to Avant Ghetto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am DocBlueDog:

Floyd is my fave band. The psych and prog aspects of the show are my fave too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am Jeffrey Davison:

Wow, thanks DocBlueDog for that comment. I always learn a lot from the listeners
Avatar 2:24am Adamsworth:

I like Pagels, I'll check out that book, thanks DocBlueDog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am DocBlueDog:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am DocBlueDog:

{thumbs up}
Avatar 2:28am Adamsworth:

Was Pagels friends, or at least acquaintances with PKD too? It's wild how small the freak scene was back then. Though I guess it still kind of is, ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am DocBlueDog:

I love PKD. A long time fave. But I don't know if they knew each other. She has not mentioned him in the book. A quick google search shows no immediate connection. Of course they were both heavily into the gnostics. :)
Avatar 2:36am Adamsworth:

yeah I read Pagels' Gnostic Gospels book after reading PKD...I couldn't remember if there was a direct connection or not...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am Jeffrey Davison:

The great Anna St. Louis LP, If Only There Was A River, is up for grabs...pledge $20 or more now and it could be yours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41am Jeffrey Davison:

Support freeform radio and Avant Ghetto. Where else, I ask you, can you hear all of this? (Hint: nowhere)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am Jeffrey Davison:

This LP is a must for lovers of guitar soli. Gwenifer Raymond is a monster player, now living in Brighton.
Avatar 2:54am gregorianpants:

this is neat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55am Hugo (NL):

Great music. Thank you!!
  3:00am Santos L Halper:

Awright, thanks for the Gwenifer!
  4:20pm Paul Payton:
