Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51am Gary:

Jeff is on his way, hope to start right on time, but could be a minute or two delay ... meanwhile, please PLEDGE to support this terrific show and WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am Uncle Michael:

I'm ready!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am listener james from westwood:

Hello, Jeff, Gary, UM, and all!!
Avatar 9:02am fred:

Good morning Jeff and Gary and pledgers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Gary:

Hi everyone — Jeff is here and seeing up — moments to go!
Avatar 9:03am duke:

Hello Jeff and listeners
  9:04am Listener Robert:

Soon I'll have to wake up my housemate to tell him it's an hour later than the watch I gave him says -- and he doesn't keep track of time anyway.
Avatar 9:05am TDK60:

Morning Jeff, Gary! Still yawning from this society's messin' with my clock.
  9:05am Listener Gregory:

@Uncle M, isn't it like 3 am in real time where you are??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Doug Schulkind:

G:O! G:O! G:O! G:O! G:O!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Gary:

Hey ho!
  9:06am Listener Gregory:

The local weather is not at all congliptious today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Uncle Michael:

*barely* hearing your bed music, Jeff
  9:08am listener james from westwood:

Rumor has it Jeff will perform his in-theme a cappella at this year’s Hoof & Mouth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am listener james from westwood:

That Baird/Lattimore is like FMU-lifer catnip.
Avatar 9:12am fred:

@ljfw: that sounds great
Avatar 9:13am hyde:

hi
Avatar 9:15am fred:

I'm all pledged out, but this is a great record
Avatar 9:16am Brian in UK:

Hello Jeff and Gary.

fred, I know that feeling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am Doug Schulkind:

Wah? DUDE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Uncle Michael:

I'M CHANGING CLOCKS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Jeff Golick:

Oh, hi there! BIG THANKS AND HELLOS ALL AROUND. I am easily confused by multi-talking so apologies for being here less than usual.
Avatar 9:24am hyde:

clock changing is so dumb. i wish they'd abolish this whole thing.
Avatar 9:25am TDK60:

There may be a sort of hint in the current title. Pledge...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Gary:

The odds are good for pledgers this am!
Avatar 9:27am TDK60:

WFMU, my Floyd go-to outlet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Uncle Michael:

Pledgelight Savings Time. Pledge forward!
Avatar 9:35am TDK60:

Hey, my radio next to my heart disappeared...or was it a cassette deck? Joe McGasko -out of bed to fix this!
Avatar 9:37am Brian in UK:

Django?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Gary:

Get in the running for this now, with a $20 pledge in support of D:O Radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Gary:

This SUSS Ghost Box CD is also up for grabs to the lucky $20-or-more pledger!
  9:45am Doug Schulkind:

This sounds like music from a Joe Frank episode.
Avatar 9:45am Brian in UK:

@TDK60 looks like only FMU staff have kept their radio. According to fred from an earlier show Kenzo is aware and like the hole in the ground he is looking into it.
Avatar 9:46am Sem:

Greets, D:O listeners, Jeff and Gary, and those who travel w/out a map and landed here.
Avatar 9:47am fred:

@TDK60; Kenzo said earlier today that it's a real thing. I guess he's working on it. Probably related to communication between the old reliable playlist system and the pretty but buggy new one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Scraps:

TDK60, my radio disappeared, and reappeared. Kenzo agreed that sometimes today it will do this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Scraps:

coke coke coke
Avatar 9:51am fred:

@Scraps: Sem might be joining our radio family, unless someone else came first
  9:52am Listener Gregory:

The cover of the Steve Tibbetts record is scaring me.
Avatar 9:52am TDK60:

..thanks for the explanations. I suppose it's a trifle. (also, prefer to see it as a cassette deck -with a radio)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am doctorjazz:

Hey ,Ahead Springers and Out Destined! (yawn... )
Avatar 9:56am hyde:

i ate at an NYC restaurant called Northern Spy once. i think it's closed though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Scraps:

Are we randomly getting a prize (or not) when we pledge? Or specifically one or two of them when we pledge?(I have two of them, & don’t care for Tibbets [like people care].)
Avatar 9:58am fred:

Northern Spy is a pretty good label
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Scraps:

@fred: more to the radio-family.
Avatar 9:59am Brian in UK:

Jeff you have a good radio voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am Scraps:

@doctorjazz, are you referencing Fritz Leiber?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am doctorjazz:

I have the Tibbets, so I I'll wait for the next set ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Doug Schulkind:

Jobs are a nice secondary activity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am listener james from westwood:

The clips ruled!
Avatar 10:04am hyde:

i liked the clips too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am doctorjazz:

You'd be a Jazz Nerd...
Avatar 10:06am TDK60:

'hepcat' my term.
  10:06am Listener Gregory:

Wow! I won! I will sleep with it under my pillow. Thanks!
Avatar 10:07am hyde:

oh, i won something? cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am doctorjazz:

That shirt looks cool ... Based on the old RCA Living Stereo LP's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am doctorjazz:

This is GORGEOUS! James Emory all over the frets!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Gary:

This Hearts & Minds CD can be yours for a $20 pledge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am doctorjazz:

Hadn't heard this version on Money Worries, cool! Had to Google it, the Maytones, I believe had the version I know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am doctorjazz:

@Scraps (10:02), wish I had ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Gary:

Get in the running for this terrific 2-CD prize!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Jeff Golick:

@Scraps (9:57), re prizes: they are awarded at random from among pledges received during the show (i.e., now) that are at least $20
  10:33am annexia:

FMU is the White Rose of radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Dave in Vermont:

Mac still has a podcast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am doctorjazz:

(are mic levels a bit high? I'm hearing some distortion (could be on my end .. )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am doctorjazz:

(Matt Shipp is everywhere, no?)
  10:37am Listener Gregory:

@Jeff, very good point about the de-gentrification of culture. D:O is part of the "long tail."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Gary:

This phenomenal CD can be yours for a mere $20 — get in the running now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am doctorjazz:

Met Matthew Shipp at last year's Carnegie Hall Roscoe Mitchell concert, he's a friend of a friend, sweet guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Uncle Michael:

mic breaks are louder than musical sets, but I'm not hearing distortion...but I'm also not listening on headphones.
  10:40am Listener Gregory:

Of course, if you tell people that they're in the long tail, they might not take it as a compliment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for the audio feedback; will make adjustments!

Mac still has a podcast - yes! Thanks for that @DaveinVermont. And hello!
Avatar 10:42am TDK60:

yeh, mic levels sound louder than the myusick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am doctorjazz:

I generally listen to D. O. On headphones (keeps the peace).. .not terrible, but noticed by me (but I'm an audiophile nerd).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Gary:

We’re just shy of 60% of Jeff’s goal for today — make it happen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am doctorjazz:

@Gary, I'm usually not around to listen when you're on, but really liked this past Wednesday's show. I'll be listening to it more (in the archives if timing prohibits real time listening ).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am doctorjazz:

Trumpet/melodica Duet? Cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Gary:

Last chance for pledging for these terrific prizes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Dave Sewelson:

,Your show is the prize!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am listener james from westwood:

Flying Lizards!
Avatar 11:03am TDK60:

Staysh swabbing the deck.
  11:03am Listener Gregory:

Not only are @Jeff and @Gary not getting paid, THEY PAY by being members. That is crazy when you think about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am doctorjazz:

Love that Money!
(distortion better, levels adjusted? Sorry if I made trouble. .)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am doctorjazz:

Thanks! (yup, I'm Jack)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am doctorjazz:

The tuba player swings his ass off! (have this record; I'd recommend getting in the running for it .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Uncle Michael:

Clean money...dirty money...whatever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Gary:

My fire icons didn’t show up above, so y’all will have to imagine them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Uncle Michael:

This album. THIS ALBUM.
Avatar 11:23am TDK60:

Ha ha! Glad this can be played here- F.T.M.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Gary:

The awesomeness
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am doctorjazz:

Dancing in my Bed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am coelacanth∅:

good morning Jeff, OUTies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @coel!

Yo, we're stuck at about 60% of the show's goal. Anything you can go to push us toward 100% by the top of the hour would be greatly appreciated. And you might well win something for your trouble!
  11:34am Listener Gregory:

May I point out that it was Ornette Coleman's birthday last week? I caught only 15 minutes of the WKCR tribute.
  11:35am Dean:

Ornette's birthday is in dispute, I gather. Some say yesterday, some say the 19th. In any event, my mom's senior living/retirement home midday activity yesterday was a tribute to him. They played side 1 of Shape of Jazz to Come.
  11:36am Listener Gregory:

@Dean I would like to move to that retirement home. Please send details!
  11:37am Dean:

I was pleasantly surprised, that's for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am coelacanth∅:

Yes! there's a retirement community i'd be okay in, if i were ever to be okay in a retirement community.
  11:39am Listener Gregory:

This Nate Wooley record/concert of same got a strong review in the Times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Doug Schulkind:

At my father's assisted-living place, the best they could do was bring this nebish-y fellow who tapped out rhythms on bongos while leading a singalong to You Are My Sunshine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am doctorjazz:

Caught some of Ornette's WKCR broadcast as well. They play 24 hours of Ornette every year on March 9. Today is Bix Beiderbeck's birthday;they're playing his music for the next 24 hours (I'll catch some of that later)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am doctorjazz:

That is one hip retirement place!
  11:42am Listener Gregory:

Because of the difference between Louis Armstrong's long-stated (and believed) birthday and the actual date, WKCR has two birthday broadcasts for him. That is the opposite of Solomonic!
  11:42am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, you are scaring me away from retirement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Doug Schulkind:

This Nate Wooley lp is mammoth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Jeff Golick:

Yeah this CD is not technically a "grand prize" but it's a whopper.
  11:45am Dean:

My mom's screens operas from the Met in a well-appointed theater. There's a nice library. It's near Cal, and musicians from the university or the area appear two or three times a week. Retired profs drop by to give lecture presentations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am doctorjazz:

I didn't realize there was more than 1 possible Ornette birthday. But , Phil Schapp had declared March 9, so it must be so .
  11:46am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, it's cool.
Avatar 11:47am fred:

Ornette in a retirement home? That sounds nice. Not that I'll ever get to retire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am doctorjazz:

Almost the end, thanks Jeff and Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am doctorjazz:

(I can imagine my mother in law's reaction to an Ornette album playing... It wouldn't be pretty)
Avatar 11:51am Sem:

Head down in work, but listened along all morning. Thank you for this show, Jeff. Same time, same station next time! Bye, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Andrew Waterloo:

A pleasure to hear you two gentlemen. See you both soon!

Respect to coelacanth: from modern Latin Coelacanthus (genus name), from Greek koilos ‘hollow’ + akantha ‘spine’ (its fins have hollow spines).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm coelacanth∅:

Woohoo! Thanks guys i'm stoked for that record now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm coelacanth∅:

haha Thanks Gregory!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm doctorjazz:

The show premium sounds like a must have. .
  12:08pm Listener Gregory:

@coelacanth, you got both the Latin and the Greek! Impressive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Jeff Golick:
