Avatar 4:01pm Mr Fab:

Hey all, wow our Euro buddies are up late!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm here for the duration! :-)
  4:02pm Martinibomb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

  4:03pm Martinibomb:

I think you'll all dig the show today
Avatar 4:03pm Otis Fodder:

Hello, still listening here. Great show GG, looking foward MB.
  4:03pm Martinibomb:

Get back to work Otis! ;-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I warn you all tho - I'm *really* burp-filled this evening for some reason. I apologise in advance ;-)
Avatar 4:04pm worldsworstrecords:

Is Gino Washington a different singer to Geno Washington, of Ram Jam band fame?
Avatar 4:04pm Otis Fodder:

Every day (and often night), freelance hustle never stops.
Avatar 4:04pm Mr Fab:

Was also wondering that. Is this a female.singer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Good question!
  4:05pm Martinibomb:

It's the same guy -- typo
Avatar 4:05pm worldsworstrecords:

Not a typo, it's Gino with an I on the 45 label
Avatar 4:06pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I wonder how/why it got changed?
  4:06pm Martinibomb:

Hmmm I was thinking it was the same person.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ... Prince Buster :-)
Avatar 4:07pm worldsworstrecords:

It probably is the same singer, it's just not a track (or spelling) I'd come across before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

No, same. :-) Dexy's and all that :-)
Avatar 4:08pm worldsworstrecords:

Nope - different singer: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Wow - The Royal Hotel Calypso Orchestra. :-) That paints a wonderful picture, doesn't it? :-)
  4:09pm Martinibomb:

man that's confusing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Jan Turkenburg:

it does!
Avatar 4:09pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Weirdly only three years between them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Jan Turkenburg:

calypso flute make me happy
  4:10pm Martinibomb:

Wish i'd done some research on him before hand..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Jan Turkenburg:

keep them special fx transistions coming MB!
  4:12pm Martinibomb:

that puppet on a string is a great track.. been stuck in my head for a few days now
  4:13pm Martinibomb:

@Jan oh yeah! I totally lay it on all thru. Reverb + Echo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm having a blast listening to all this :-) It's taking the sting out of knocking my website into shape :-)
  4:14pm Rich in Lunchroomton:

Elvis should've employed more seafood references in his song catalog.
  4:15pm Martinibomb:

havn't heard anyone play much calypso here so thought i'd go that way today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Jan Turkenburg:

I did a mix once in which I chopped the end of one track and the beginning of the following into small samples and made a mash-ups in the middle. I want to do that more often, but it's a lot of work for one show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Steam - of Jukebox Shuffle fame! :-) - has gotten me into more ska and calypso etc :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Today!!!! :-)
  4:17pm Martinibomb:

@Jan kills my hand to do that kinda stuff these days. hate the mouse lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The sampling of the Airplane :-)
  4:18pm Martinibomb:

@GG one of my fave samples bits.. love Pete Rock
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Loved it - it was really pretty :-)
  4:19pm Martinibomb:

that little loop is so groovy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Jan Turkenburg:

songs about astronauts can't be bad, can they?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Jan Turkenburg:

and if so, I want to know which ones!
  4:21pm Martinibomb:

@Jan.. astronauts just reminded me of this song. I think a theme from some british show I've never seen but dang this song is coool... youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Jan Turkenburg:

I saved that link, the first few seconds sounded promising.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

WHAT??? That Aeronauts track is FABULOUS! :-)
  4:23pm Martinibomb:

I konw the music is cool but the lyrics are hella cool too! I'm super curious about the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Jan Turkenburg:

ok, ok, calm down, GG :-) I just don't want to be playing youtube-clips during a sheena show :-)
Avatar 4:24pm Mr Fab:

i've added some calypso to the stream, but not nearly enough I'm sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Jan Turkenburg:

Oh, this one's cool!!!
Avatar 4:25pm Mr Fab:

whoah, this is a Nat king COle hit. had no idea Tito Puente did it too
  4:25pm Martinibomb:

I used to work a graveyard shift with a guy from Trinidad and he got me all into Lord Kitchener
  4:27pm Martinibomb:

I love how all the lyrics are usually metaphors for sex in Calypso
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Lord Tanamo - I'm in the Mood for Love. Personal favourite. A propos of nothing. Just wanted to put that out there :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Jan Turkenburg:

This has something of Beethoven's Für Elise in it
  4:28pm Martinibomb:

I got Lord Lanamo's Keep on Moving in this mix
  4:29pm Martinibomb:

@Jan interesting observation I didn't catch that before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

According to Wiki "The Aeronauts" aired on CBC in Canada in the early 70s but I have no memory of it. Weird. -(
  4:29pm Martinibomb:

Oh it's canadian? I always thought it was a UK show. I think I've seen the opening of the show but never found a full episode
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's French - but they did an anglacised version for both Canada and the UK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ah - the second greatest footballer of all time ;-)
  4:34pm Martinibomb:

Who's the first? I always thought he was #1 at least when I was a kid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

George Best
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Jan Turkenburg:

This is Ritual Fire Dance, right?
  4:39pm Martinibomb:

i think so I should be putting in albums too lazy today.. i might go back later and fill it all in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm currently eating an oatmilk-based creme fraiche and I'm not sure about it. It's ... I don't know. there's something a little flat about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Putting in all the albums was driving me crazy. We don[t have to do that after this week do we?
  4:40pm Martinibomb:

I thought it was just the first two weeks of feb.. i think it's okay now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

God I;m an idiot today ... I've even written it on my calendar. I had my poor daughter researching albums all morning for me! Oops ;-)
  4:43pm Martinibomb:

eh..you're keeping her out of trouble and off drugs hahah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Jan Turkenburg:

Oh, MB I didn't mean the Album title. "Pele" by Arthur Lyman" included the complete theme of Ritual Fire Dance by Manuel de Falla
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ha! She's the more sensible out of the two of us! ;-) I've even had times when she's asked me to turn my music down ;-) lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Brentford as in London? I have to look this up! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Jan Turkenburg:

Lol, instead of ...
  4:46pm Domenic:

All very pleasant stuff!
  4:47pm Martinibomb:

Thanks Dom!
Avatar 4:47pm Mr Fab:

hey, us record fiends appreciate all the album info, GG
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ... lol
  4:50pm Martinibomb:

i'm pretty much playing my want list hahah
Avatar 4:50pm Mr Fab:

You don't have to! I'm just saying your efforts were not in vain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is all magnificent. :-) I *do* need a Veggie Rundown desperately right now tho. lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, Mr fab :-)
Avatar 4:52pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks MB. Super shot of a great show today. Jumping in for just a moment while I hear your voice saying hey hey!
  4:53pm Martinibomb:

What's a Veggie Rundown? Grocery shopping or some kind of salve? hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Salve for the Soul ;-)
  4:54pm Martinibomb:

@Otis thanks mang! I thought we could all use a shot of summer vibes to get through the rest of the week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

With rice and peas as well :-)
  4:55pm Martinibomb:

Just listen to Dr. Martinibomb he's got the cure for what ails ya
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

He certainly does! :-)
Avatar 4:56pm Otis Fodder:

Space Echo Spring is on the horizon.
  4:56pm Martinibomb:

ooh thanks GG I did not know about the Veg Rundown/Jamaican food! I will def try this out
Avatar 4:57pm Mr Fab:

I'll be adding a number of tracks from the Trojan XXX reggae box set to the stream. Wine 'n' grine', y'all!
  4:57pm Martinibomb:

Scotch Bonnet Pepper??!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's genuinely a bowl of yum. :-)
  4:58pm Martinibomb:

@Fab oh yeah that's a good set. There's a smaller label I'm forgetting the name of.. i might send you to later that's been reissuing/putting some really great stuff out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The first time I ever went to Brixton was in the summer of 81 or 82. And this music is reminding me of that :-) Happy times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Last time I went to Brixton was the weekend after Bowie died so not quite so happy times ... the mural is amazing tho, I have to say. <3
  5:00pm Martinibomb:

@GG I thought you might feel that way. This stuff hit harder there than it did here I think. I don't remember hearing much back then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks , This is one hell of an hour, MB I'll probably first relisten it tomorrow before going into the second hour. Off to bed now. Bye all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You can always tell that the summer's on its way because pasty white British people get the Bob Marley albums out ;-) lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Night, Jan! :-)
  5:02pm Martinibomb:

Thanks Jan. I feel like I'm good at pulling stuff together and making a great mix but not so great on the history or drilling into details.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You weave a magnificent vibe :-)
  5:04pm Martinibomb:

@GG thank you very much!
  5:05pm Martinibomb:

"I'm gonna whip them with my songs" great lyric
Avatar 5:12pm Mr Fab:

@GG "Legend" seems to be most ppls sum total of their reggae knowledge. An album deliberately compiled to appeal to scared white folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Pretty much! Ha! Pasty white Brits ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That's better :-) Karen Carpenter drumming was getting too much :-)
  5:19pm Martinibomb:

I just heard some Carpenter's stems with her drums isolated..wow she was a good drummer! What an amazing musician she was
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Her isolated vocals are just stunning. And most of them were one take as well which staggers me.
The "Karen Carpenter drumming" was my avatar. I had to change it ;-)
Avatar 5:20pm Mr Fab:

Irwin used to play an hour of calypso every week. Good times.
  5:21pm Martinibomb:

I don't think Kitch is talking about a needle here
  5:22pm Martinibomb:

Yeah I dug his Murial's thing.. what was it called? I think I got his DJ preimium. That was like 10 years ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is pure filth. I love it :-)
  5:23pm Martinibomb:

I think metaphors are okay to play on radio hahah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's only dirty if someone thinks it is which means that they're filthy and not you ;)
  5:25pm Martinibomb:

hahah totally!!!
Avatar 5:27pm Mr Fab:

Has anyone recorded the allegedly dirty lyrics to "Louie Louie"? I mean, theres been a million versions of that song...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm gonna have to bail and listen to the rest tomorrow if that's okay? My eyelids are drooping :-(
Fabulous show tho - I've had so much fun tonight :-)
Night everyone! Night John Boy! ;-)
  5:29pm Martinibomb:

Good question. I just heard 2 hours of louie louie songs a couple months ago from another dj friend but I didn't pick up on anything like that with what he played.
  5:29pm Martinibomb:

Have a good night GG! I'm about toast myself.. going to take a nap after this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks for a great show, Martinibomb! Been listening but frantically pushing pixels, so unable to comment!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Rich in Washington:

The Dave Marsh book about Louie Louie is really good. Recommended!
  5:53pm Martinibomb:

Thanks Rich! yeah I get it believe me lol. There's an extra 5mins of calypso stuff after this Mal Thurs track.. I didn't back announce it just going to playlist it
Avatar 5:56pm Mr Fab:

Loved the tropical vibe today MB. I've kinda been goin rain-crazy lately.
  5:56pm Martinibomb:

See ya'll on friday or in the Facebook Group. Thanks for listening. Glad you dug the Show MR Fab. Yeah the Rain is what inspired me to put this together.
