I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Avatar 12:18pm JosephB:

Hey rw! How's your weekend so far?
  12:21pm rw:

So far so good. Sun's out. Play Vertigo is playing. The past couple weeks have been a little out of control but everyone's at the fair so nobody's breathing down my neck at the moment!
  12:21pm rw:

Did you make it out to the desert?
Avatar 12:22pm JosephB:

@rw No, too cold that weekend. You? And are you checking out any fairs or just taking it easy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm redkayak:

The dogs and I are hiding in the basement, avoiding the vacuum cleaner upstairs. I have this Backwood business cranked up as counterpoint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm redkayak:

You can't tell me life in the Midwest isn't exciting :)
Avatar 12:25pm Mayuko:

I'm confident that my show goes well with vacuum cleaner noises, redkayak.

Mayuko!! Hi fellow Listenerd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Dropof Goldensun:

I mean ListenerdS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm fred:

I once saw Scanner play live for a contemporary dance show, a long time ago. And last year I saw a great dance show (Lucy Guerin's Split) for which he contributed the music. I don't remember the music though (I was too focused on the dance)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm redkayak:

@mayuko Hahaha, we are in our own little cozy world. I and the dogs are are quite content between the tunes and the space heater!
Avatar 12:28pm Mayuko:

If I knew in advance of the vacuum cleaning incident in the midwest I would have been playing Swell Maps' Midget Submarines now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm redkayak:

@mayuko - Next time. My wife surprised us all :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm david w:

Hello, Mayuko and all! Delighted.
Avatar 12:30pm Mayuko:

Good afternoon, Mr. Goldensun in the lab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm fred:

I remember a great performance by Pierre Berthet using vacuum cleaners. Sadly there were about a dozen people in attendance, including people from the venue
Avatar 12:32pm Mayuko:

@fred Dancing with a vacuum cleaner sounds as good as dancing with a floor lamp!
Avatar 12:33pm Mayuko:

Good afternoon, David W! Happy to have you listening!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm redkayak:

@fred @mayuko - Vacuuming is serious business here w/2 dogs and their human guardians. It's a war against nature, I tell you....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm fred:

@Mayuko: The Pierre Berthet show wasn't a dance show. I've seen some dance shows feature a vacuum cleaner, but almost always as a misguided attempt by men to appear feminist. Ambra Senatore is a delightful exception, but she just mimed it, no actual vacuum cleaner was used
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm northguineahills:

Actually here today, got to leave near the end for a family function. Lieven Martens. new to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm northguineahills:

Peter Kember (as Spectrum), did a nice cover of the Silver Apples', "A Pox on You", that included a vacuum and a battery of vintage analogue synths.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm northguineahills:

ack, missed Robin Ribaud (Scanner) had dinner w/ him a decade ago. Great artist and person....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm northguineahills:

errr…, Rimbaud...
  12:45pm Katsuko:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Dropof Goldensun:

The poem was wonderful!
  12:51pm rw:

I missed the poem. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm fred:

I don't think I could survive long without art. I go every year to the "open doors" event at the Paris art school, a sprawling event featuring not so great art but a lot of exciting ideas, and a few great things each time. I need that renewal. They also have cheap good beer and last year a Japanese student had an onigiri stand. I hope he sticks around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm paul b:

Somewhat out of character I went to a poetry reading this week -- an old friend I haven't seen in over 20 years. She was a pre-nursing transfer student from Montgomery community college when I knew her. Now she's a famous (poetry-wise) Viet-American poet. Her books have titles like "Violet Energy Ingots" and "As long as trees last".
  12:57pm rw:

Joe, we did go out there but we stayed in the casino. Only saw one thing but it was cool. Went to Frieze during installation. Looks like an art fair. Might be fun to get out and see everyone but I get enough of that stuff during the week! You?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm fred:

There was a rewinding sound that reminded me of this video by a Korean artist: www.youtube.com...
(she's wearing a dress made out of phone directory pages, I think I already mentioned her here)
  1:00pm rw:

Mayuko, Play Vertigo does indeed have healing powers. Thank you! Personally, I liked when you were on at night but I'm learning to tweak my schedule to include what's most important!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Mayuko and Vertigo Players!
Avatar 1:01pm JosephB:

@Mayuko Sorry to hear about your recent unpleasant encounters -- we all know what that can be like. Thanks for channeling your experience into something we can all enjoy listening to!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm northguineahills:

Verbal poetry is usually hard for me (see public poetry slams, etc), I prefer to read it myself. However, Mayuko does it perfect. I do have poetry on vinyl that works well as well.

..and as fred said, I need art to cleanse my soul, otherwise, I go insane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Webhamster Henry:

@fred I try to get the NYU ITP student shows, which have a good mix of ideas.
Avatar 1:03pm JosephB:

@rw I got a hold of a free frieze pass so I'm gonna head over this afternoon. I'm not sure it will be a healing experience though!
Avatar 1:06pm Mayuko:

Hi northguineahills! Yeah - verbal poetry is simply hard for me to understand often - since poetry has the nature of making miraculous leaps in ideas and emotions, so unless I am reading it on paper it's a bit hard for me to follow. If it's Japanese I could enjoy the rhythm and sound of it like music, but in English it's harder.
Avatar 1:06pm Mayuko:

Hi Henry! Thanks for tuning in!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko I agree with rw. Your show does having healing powers. I'm currently having a terrible time at work today trying to deal with horrible withdrawal from a drug I'm currently trying to wean off. Your show is helping me focus less on the symptoms.
  1:06pm rw:

Joe, you've probably heard but take an uber. It'll be fun!

Mayuko, if you ever do make a trip to the west coast please don't take the short cut through the mountains during a snowstorm.
Avatar 1:09pm Mayuko:

@JosephB Thanks! Not that anything really bad happened, but isn't it funny how negative things stick in your brain even when you know it's a trivial thing? Like you said happens to everyone from time to time I guess!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Webhamster Henry:

This is a nice tale to hear while making lunch (vegetarian).
  1:10pm mzzmzzm:

Avatar 1:11pm Mayuko:

Thanks for listening paul b! She sounds like she makes a lot of nature references in her poems too!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm coelacanth∅:

hi Mayuko and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm coelacanth∅:

Henry, right? i hurried to finish my soup before the most revolting part came
Avatar 1:14pm Mayuko:

@coelacanth∅ @Henry Haha!
This is such a great piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Webhamster Henry:

ALIVE's cannibalism is relatively benign and sympathetic.
Avatar 1:15pm Mayuko:

Hi mzzmzzm! Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar 1:16pm Mayuko:

@rw thanks for your kind words, and practical advice! I make sure I don't travel in snowstorms.
Avatar 1:16pm geezerette:

Hi, Mayuko and company!
Love the obsidian and turquoise as well as the Ashley and Durand. It reminds me of John Cage; sort of standup for the art damaged. :)
Avatar 1:17pm Mayuko:

@Dropof I am sorry that you're having a hard time today! Don't these stories of people surviving give us hope?!?!?! Kind of?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko, I think they do. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm coelacanth∅:

haha but we had to endure the perverted feeding frenzy before hearing the survival stories!
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

@Dropof Forget about the eating-human part though, haha!
  1:19pm mayuk:

@Mayuko! I'm not an impersonator of yours... just another Mayuko who happens to be around. I've never met another Mayuko so I wanted to say hi! I usually listen to your program while I'm at work. You keep my mind in a good place.
  1:21pm rw:

I do my best to avoid unpleasant people if possible but when there's an encounter I usually try to feel glad I'm not the one with such low self esteem issues that I need to take it out on others.
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

@fred I do remember the time you mentioned the onigiri student! Understandable since onigiri is the true gem of Japanese culture.
  1:23pm rw:

Huh.. was that a grammatically correct sentence I just typed? I guess you get the idea.
  1:24pm rw:

Mayukos galore!
Avatar 1:24pm Mayuko:

@coelacanth∅ Haha!
And before playing that track I really should have taken it into consideration that my show is on brunch-lunch time. So funny.
  1:26pm JakeGould:

Hey Mayuko!
Avatar 1:26pm JosephB:

@rw Your statement was both true and grammatically correct
Avatar 1:28pm Mayuko:

Welcome on board, geezerette!!
& Mayuko san! It's so rare to have another Mayuko here! With you I might be able to fight back the Davids force taking over the drummer stream!!! Though it'd be a small resistance...
Avatar 1:30pm Mayuko:

@Jake There're 2 Mayukos here today, you need to clarify which Mayuko or both that you're speaking with, like you do with Davids.
Avatar 1:30pm Mayuko:

@Jake Also thanks for tuning in.
  1:30pm rw:

I'm supposed to be working and not tooling around on the internet but the link to the Stephen Hui Geological Museum seems to take me back to this page.
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

@rw Staying away is the best strategy indeed!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm fred:

I'm rooting for team Mayuko to overtake the Davids who turned into Goliaths
Avatar 1:33pm geezerette:

Your program is such a pleasure!
  1:34pm JakeGould:

@MaykoPrime: Ha! Seriously, the way negative encounters stick with you is based on humans just being animals. Brains are wired to help one remember. As events to process and understand them so you can protect yourself in the end. But when it comes to humans, lots of people are just psychologically mean. So just teach yourself to walk away mentally. Soon enough, things clear up.
  1:34pm JakeGould:

I meant to say MayukoPrime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm coelacanth∅:

i like ALL the Davids AND all the Mayukos.
if another Flash Strap shows up though i'm going to be suspicious of him.
Avatar 1:36pm JosephB:

@ceol haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Jeff Golick:

Hi, from one of the Jeff contingent.
  1:37pm JakeGould:

All Jakes are Great
  1:39pm Katsuko:

this track made in Britain (Myriam Bleau)
  1:39pm mayuk:

Mayukos vs Davids! I like to save Play Vertigo for weekday listening so I assure everyone that there won't be much confusion on this comment board ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm fred:

@Jeff: It's OK, Jeffs are many but inoffensive, at least according to a certain DJ's profile
  1:40pm rw:

There are plenty of nice people in the world. No need to bother with the others. And always keep a Jake around just in case.
Avatar 1:42pm Mayuko:

Jeff!!! Which Jeff and which Mayuko?! Which Jake?
Avatar 1:43pm Mayuko:

Flash Strap is indeed one and only!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 1:44pm Mayuko:

@fred THANK YOU! I need support from listnerds in this hopeless battle.
  1:44pm rw:

Flash Strap? I haven't had the pleasure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm coelacanth∅:

mayuk, "mayuk" is pretty clear! ...but as an alternative to shortening your name you could always add a silly symbol to the end.
Avatar 1:44pm Mayuko:

  1:56pm Katsuko:

I'll never forget this episode
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Jeff Golick:

I second @fred's suggestion. Thanks, @Mayuko!
Avatar 1:57pm JosephB:

@katsuko why?
Avatar 1:58pm Mayuko:

Hard to forget about people getting eaten and then people falling and surviving.
Avatar 1:59pm Mayuko:

Thank you so much for listening and all of your kind comments today! Looking forward to coming back the following week!!
  1:59pm JakeGould:

Is that the story of Jonah and the whale? Eaten, fallen, surviving.
  1:59pm Katsuko:

sorry, i switched the sound off for the long story thing, I just enjoyed the music!
  2:00pm rw:

Mayuko!! Your show ends so fast now. Thank you!!!
