"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Wait, so when was indie rock invented?
Avatar 10:19am John Allen:

the dutch east india trading company first brought the pilgrims over in 1985.
Avatar 10:20am SSS:

I think indie rock was invented when someone who could not get a conventional contract found another way, enabled through developing technologies, yes?
  10:20am Brendan:

Duck has got some serious pluck
  10:23am Brendan:

Donner party or Chilean plane crash

@Ike...Being a cat fan, I gotta know, does that cat do that slipper behavior regularly?
  10:35am MplsCoco:

Love this!❤️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Rob (Jerzcity):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am sphere:

My take: The term "indie" was invented in the UK during the late 70s when a chart was created to track independent labels. It could apply to any genre. Then the American college rock scene picked it up gradually over the 80s until "indie rock" was definitely a thing in 87-92.

John, thank you SO VERY MUCH for playing Sonny Sharrock! Besides loving his work, I have had a stinkin' mental block for days trying to remember his name without da' Googlez or looking at my records! I was waiting for it to come to me in a vision, dream or...WFMU. And so it did. RAWK!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Ike:

@SSS, no idea since sadly that's not my cat. That's a famous-ish cat GIF from the wilds of the Intertubes. But I *do* have a cat who's been known to carry away sandals and chew on them.

Avatar 10:44am SSS:

I had a cat that, when I would toss a particular hat on the floor, at the urging of "get under the hat!" would zip under, as if wearing it, and glare at me maniacally.
Avatar 10:44am John Allen:

itzall, fyi this is available on vinyl in the UK, pretty small press run.
  10:45am Brendan:

<If an emoji worked it would here . This is a test of the emoji alert system. If this had been an actual emoji, you would have been instructed how to feel.>

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am sphere:

Itzall, you know about the Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast episode which is basically Sharrock and his group jamming out?
Avatar 10:49am Itzall Ablurr:

sphere, living in ATL (home of Space Ghost), I SHOULD know about that but did not. Of course I love the theme song but man I need to see that!
