  9:37am leshwatt:

Experiment about to begin:

Is listening to reggae conducive to shoveling snow?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Meghan:

just think warm thoughts and that should help melt the snow.... right?
  9:40am Jefff:

Can't hurt. But probably best to have the coffee waiting...
  9:41am leshwatt:

I’ll let you know....
Avatar 9:42am Dave B:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Meghan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Meghan:

steveo, exactly! That commercial always made me laugh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Meghan:

Hey there Kim and Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Stanley:

Haha! That Loch Ness thing very weird.
My first enounter with reggae was at the fun fair at Crystal Palace, South London, around 1967, I think. I couldn't believe my eyes. The music being played at the fair made an indelible impression. Specifically, I remember the track, The Liquidator by Harry J All Stars. You can imagine the effect of this nightime scene on the senses of an impressionable 8 year old. Jamaicans, skinheads, teenagers, lights, sound and a sugar rush you could light a cigarette with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Meghan:

oh wow! That is a crazy experience! nice!
  10:14am Jefff:

You'd be yelling too if you had barb wire in your underpants... must be Meghan's favorite song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Stanley:

our neighbours took me and my brother and as the fair was held in a field our mum made us wear welington boots. I remember that they flew off when I was on the flying swing ride thing and I returned home all mudied in in my stocking feet. My brother won a goldfish but I had the music.
  10:16am seth from muddy creek:

I got barbed wire in my underpants
  10:17am leshwatt:

Haha barbed wire
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Meghan:

That sounds dangerous Seth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Meghan:

you lost your good Wellies! for shame Stanley!!
  10:18am leshwatt:

I recommend blasting underwater reggae room whilst shoveling snow. It may compliment shoveling other stuff as well! Thanks Meghan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Santos L. Halper:

@BiUK, that show looks great, have a teenage bassist in the house who should see it. But it won't allow me to DL or watch outside UK...
  10:26am seth from muddy creek:

@leshwatt AMEN!
  10:30am Mike Wolf:

No disrespeck to the regular host but I am really enjoying your selections today Meghan — Steel Pulse is a strange band to bring tears to your eyes but they were my (late) brother’s favorite... Thank you thank you!
  10:31am seth from muddy creek:

Anyone else having Supertouch shows backflash?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Stanley:

Steel Pulse - Birmingham's finest. I booked them when I was social secretary at college, nearby, in Wolverhampton. Now I mention it, have you heard of Capital Letters, Meghan?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Meghan:

I haven't.... I will have to check it out. Any recommendations song wise?
  10:37am Jefff:

To your brother, Mike.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Stanley:

'Headline News' was the album at the time and the almost anthem like 'Smoking My Ganja' was THE go to track for us reprobates.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Meghan:

checking it out now.....sounds good! Thanks for the heads up on this!
Avatar 10:47am mb:

Irie vibes DJ Meghan and School Housers Underwater
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Meghan:

hehehe.... I love the variations of the show! Hello mb!
  11:01am Mike Wolf:

Thank you Jefff. In fact my brother's name was Jeff! He got me into reggae (and college radio for that matter).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Brian in UK:

@Santos, thought that might be the case. There are ways round it but it eludes me.
Think Jeff Golick on the Stream right now knows a way.
  11:02am andrewb:

Did you say this is new Specials? I love it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Meghan:

Yup! New Specials! Good right?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Meghan:

Avatar 11:09am Dave B:

Jefff should be able to solve that problem
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am coelacanth∅:

oh crap i forgot some sub's actually make us work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Brian in UK:

@Santos, here is Jeff's answer.
I think I do have a Chrome extension that essentially puts me in the UK, so the geo-location limitation is lifted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am coelacanth∅:

'just listened to this song last night. (Errol Dunkley)

  11:26am D Drew:

doing a great job!!! appreciate you!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Meghan:

Thanks D Drew... much appreciated!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Stanley:

The Specials did 'Free Nelson Mandela' and The Beat did 'Stand Down Margaret' back in the day. I also wish there were more politically aware bands, today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Stanley:

Third World - very good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Brian in UK:

Stanley, was that the Special AKA?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am coelacanth∅:

i forget which early burning spear song uses this same jungly background track but together on a mixtape they sounded like they were recorded for the same album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Meghan:

It's a well covered song.... The Abyssinians might be the original..... such a good song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Brian in UK:

Meghan, a breath of fresh air today. Chillums notwithstanding. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Ken From Hyde Park:

How's your new job going, Meghan? Hanging in there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am zpulpa:

good day to you all! sending love from Baltimore City!
Avatar 11:38am Dave B:

Always a great way to start the day. Thanks M, J & B.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Meghan:

Hey Ken- job is going well... very busy but hired a new person who starts tomorrow so hopefully less stressful soon! haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Meghan:

Thanks zpulpa! Yay Baltimore!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am coelacanth∅:

Meghan i mean the background sounds, not the rhythm. 'spear used the same effects track. i think it was on "jah no dead".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Meghan:

ah! yes, it's totally in Jah no Dead!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Santos L. Halper:

@BiUK Don't see Jeff's suggested fix in your post, but I can email him. Tried a couple of extensions to no avail, but thanks for trying.

Meghan, glad the new gig is panning out for you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am coelacanth∅:

(my point was just that they sounded great back to back because the sound effects flowed into each other)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Brian in UK:

@Santos, see 11:11. Do not know how it works though.
  11:44am David Colangelo:

Is this Maxie? Mr Romeo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am coelacanth∅:

mmm nice version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Stanley:

Special AKA Brian - yes, now I think of it Jerry Dammers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Brian in UK:
