Cheers, GeorgyGirl! All the best to you for today's show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello, lovely! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hey Katya! Hey Georgygirl! Jan, Jopie and the two cats are tuned in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Jan Turkenburg:

yesss!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Here we go! :-)
Avatar 1:01pm Martinibomb:

It's time for the Flange & Frigate with DJ GeorgyGirl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

No spitting! :-)
Avatar 1:03pm Mr Fab:

Way psyched for today's show: a Joe Meek special. If you don't know him, after these two hours, you'll love him. (Well, maybe not HIM! but def his music.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Rich in Washington:

Ah. Just got my radio show homework from last night done in time for this show!
Hello DJ GeorgyGirl!
Hi Katya Oddio!
Hi Jan!
Hi Martinibomb!
Hi Mr. Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Joe Meek ahoy! Hello, everyone! :-)
Avatar 1:15pm Katya Oddio:

Jan! Love to you and your gang. Was JUST last night looking at pics of our visit with you folks and with DJs GeorgyGirl and Cheesemaster. Really love your three furry buddies. Please kiss the boys for me!
Avatar 1:16pm Katya Oddio:

Loving this crazy Meek-freakout show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That was so much fun :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, lovely :-)
Avatar 1:17pm Katya Oddio:

It's all fun until the creatures of the night offer up a bottle of mystery almond booze full of disease! LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ah yes ... the Nora Virus of Joy. That was ... interesting LOL
Avatar 1:19pm Katya Oddio:

Hey there, Martinibomb, Mr Fab, and Rich! I love this station packed with cool folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Jan Turkenburg:

I still think a lot of your visit, Kat. Ben and I adjusting bicycles again and again
LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Rich in Washington:

That Buzz track was bonkers!
This is fantastic, GeorgyGirl!
Listening from the kitchen while cooking an (hopefully) epic breakfast.
Avatar 1:21pm Martinibomb:

Hi Katya -- I think you're the one of us that's kinda met most everyone here in person. hahah I've only met you, Rich and Otis face to face.
Avatar 1:21pm Katya Oddio:

(Imaging Georgy "tromboning" with her document -- close, away, close, away)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I hope you're cooking your breakfast with echo ;-) I did consider doing the talkie bits with tons of echo and reverb on it. lol.
Glad you're all enjoying it tho! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Katya - a lot of that goes on! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I just made that sound like he randomly ran in and recorded people on the toilet! Oops. ;-)
Avatar 1:24pm Katya Oddio:

Jan, I'm not Dutch. Too tiny to ride your TALL and gorgeous bikes! Martinibomb, let's do it again. That visit was way too short. Still think you live in one of the lovelies places in America.
Avatar 1:25pm Katya Oddio:

Meek had people electrocuted on tape? Knew he was a nut. Sheesh. Learning just how much so now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think he personifies that madness/genius thing :-)
Avatar 1:27pm Katya Oddio:

Right? The two are so close. Back to work I must go, but you have my ears and my heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Huge hugs, lovely! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Jan Turkenburg:

Bye Kat, have a good day!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The effect on that guitar is INSANE
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I really want a coffee now ... Ha! I'm due a London trip probably in a couple of weeks so I think a bit of Bar Italia time is needed! Hopefully I can make it into Islington and get a photo of the blue heritage plaque for Joe Meek and post it in the Jungle Room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

With a quiff, no less.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Jan Turkenburg:

yes!
Avatar 1:40pm Katya Oddio:

Gah, I was being good working, but seriously, listen to this DJ's musical knowledge. Had to come back and pat her on the back and shake her hand for sharing all that info. I love you people and all that musical knowledge in your brains.
Avatar 1:40pm Martinibomb:

food talk: Im looking for tea recommendations. What's a good every day drinking tea? What kind of tea was in your cup?
Avatar 1:41pm Martinibomb:

I was super obsessed with Joe Meek about 25 years ago and read everything I could about him.. so it's fun hearing you kinda go back over the history today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

First - the biggest of hugs to Katya and much love :-)
Second - I like a lapsang if I'm being posh, or just a regular builders if not. (PG Tips that kind of thing).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Jan Turkenburg:

I'm in the classroom ... again!
Avatar 1:42pm Katya Oddio:

HA! We saw PG Tips tea LAST NIGHT in the grocery store . I remembered GG being so happy that AB provided those for her. I really do think of you all lots. Sorry I've not been a better correspondent these last years. I do still care.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I had a regular builders in the studio like a common person ;-)
Avatar 1:43pm Katya Oddio:

Yay for class time, Jan! You are so good with them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The important thing is that you're here now :-) Group hug!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks, but I meant: this time I'M the pupil!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Jan Turkenburg:

Yes it's so good to have you around again, Katya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Jan Turkenburg:

a very apropriate track playing now!
Avatar 1:45pm Katya Oddio:

Ah! Best of luck with your studies, Jan. We lost DJ Charlie Lewis to his studies. Hope you still around like DJ Doug Schulkind has. May I ask what you are filling your noggin with this time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

GAH!!! This music needs coffee!!! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Jan Turkenburg:

I'm studying weekly in Georgy's online classroom :-)
Avatar 1:46pm Katya Oddio:

This music needs coffee and a Martinibomb treatment!
Avatar 1:46pm Katya Oddio:

AH! LOL! Sorry I dropped the ball on that, Jan. Yes, aren't we fortunate to have a mentor like GG?
Avatar 1:47pm Mr Fab:

STILL haven't seen the Meek biopic "Telstar" - it's available in it's entirety on the youtubes.
Avatar 1:47pm Katya Oddio:

Thanks for the tip, Mr Fab
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I realised when I'd edited the playlist down that the records were considerably shorter than normal so I had nearly five minutes of burbling time between sets. So it's a rambling one this week - hence my need for tea ;-)
Avatar 1:47pm Martinibomb:

I just got a subscription to Builders.. was drinking barry's but it's kinda harsh. Builders is way smoother. I like non-fancy tea. thanks! I love having Katya around again. Seems like old times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Jan Turkenburg:

@katya, the local radio is about to be shut down. I left in 2017, because it was a mess. But a new station is being founded now and I'm involved (as from today actually)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You must see "Telstar"!!!! Con O'Neill is superb. I mean .. it's heartbreaking but brilliant and EVERYONE from then is in it.
Avatar 1:48pm Martinibomb:

@MrFab oh I totally forgot about that Meek biopic! Thanks for the reminder
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Jan Turkenburg:

and of course I'm fill in DJ overhere now! :-) :-) :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I may mention you at the end of the show, Jan ;-)
Avatar 1:50pm Katya Oddio:

Oh no, Jan! That was a beautiful place and everyone seemed so kind. Glad to hear a new station is on the way. Thanks, Martinibomb. Good to be here with you folks, rather than listening alone later or hearing you pop up on the household stream. You are all in there, floating on the air here at Rancho Oddio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ooo! Is it sunny and lovely there? It's all grey and grim here so a bit of lovely sunshine would be nice :-)
Avatar 1:52pm Martinibomb:

@Jan whats the new station about? what are you working on for em? Sounds cool I want to hear more about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

And links! We needs links to the new station! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Jan Turkenburg:

In the Dutch system, each community/city/village is allowed to have one offical local radio
Avatar 1:53pm Katya Oddio:

All flowers, hummingbirds, and sunshine, my dear. Wish I could give a Samantha Stevens nose wrinkle and transport you here. Put on your sunglasses!
Avatar 1:53pm Martinibomb:

Also -- all of you are invited to be guests on my Freeform Portland show. I can do video conference with people and broadcast it live.. just need music in advance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That's wonderful :-) I love the Dutch artist/empty property system as well. A friend of mine used to live in Amsterdam (he's a sculptor) and he lived rent free for nearly three years all over the city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Jan Turkenburg:

License is provided each 4 year. The station has to prove that in they meet the criteria.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

MB - that sounds like so much fun!!! :-)
Avatar 1:55pm Martinibomb:

@Jan can you have more than one station in a town? Or they really limit it to just one.
Avatar 1:56pm Katya Oddio:

Will you still operate as "Vreemde Geluiden"? Damn, GG is so good. She makes me laugh and makes me say "a ha!" every time.
Avatar 1:57pm Katya Oddio:

MB, wowzers! How cool would it be to hear our EXO friends on the air in Portland? Love that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

GG is blushing! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Astoundingly, "I Hear A New World" was made in 1960. 1960. How is that possible???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Jan Turkenburg:

Vreemde geluiden has survived as a podcast, now calles Frame Duggy Louder, as it is in English now. But Vreemde Geluiden will return on radio, as an item in a weekly live-show starting of each friday in a few weeks. We're slowly and carefully building up programs.
  2:02pm rich in kitchenton:

this is fantastic, GeorgyGirl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-) How's that breakfast doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

@martinibomb No, you can't have more radiostations in one town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

BLISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Rich in Washington:

Just now got it done and am going to shovel it into my maw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Jan Turkenburg:

The station has to prove that in the programming most of the groups/communities/religions/sportclubs/cultural organisations have a enough room to inform their followers/members
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This song is magnificence. The hairs are standing up on my neck :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Rich in Washington:

My phone headset's batteries conked out just as I was finishing.
Avatar 2:05pm Mr Fab:

used to be fairly obsessed with "Johnny Remember Me"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Jan Turkenburg:

it's a haunting song isn't it?
Avatar 2:06pm Mr Fab:

and Glenda Collin's "there's something i want to tell you"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's just so perfect. It's like Joe Meek condensed into 3 minutes. The echo, the reverb, the opera singer, the paranormal. Everything. Brilliance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Otis Fodder:

Hello everyone. Georgy, a Meek Special, be still my Sky Man heart.
Avatar 2:10pm Katya Oddio:

Ah! Thus the Mrs. Mills background. It all comes together. GG, you are like a novelist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Rich in Washington:

I think we've discussed this here before, but for me, Telstar was the first song where I ever became aware of strange music. I used to love it when that song came on the radio. It was from outer space.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Not the seagull!!! Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Otis Fodder:

I can't believe I timed my arrival to Dave's. Something fishy is in the air and it smells goooooood!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I ramble but I bring it all home ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Telstar really is otherwordly, isn't it? Even now. It still stands out as being something special.
Avatar 2:11pm Martinibomb:

Chips al fresco hilarious
Avatar 2:12pm Martinibomb:

I'm pretty sure Telstar is in my top 10 favorite songs of all time
Avatar 2:13pm Martinibomb:

Ohhh I love this valley of the saroos that piano melody is super duper
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I say a bit later that it reminds me of This Mortal Coil and "Song to the Siren" :-)
Avatar 2:15pm Martinibomb:

interesting yeah I can totally hear that connection - I wonder if this mortal coil was inspired by him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Otis Fodder:

Ahhhh TMC, I love those 3 albums so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I would hope so. I'd love that to be the case :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Otis Fodder:

TMC was my gateway to Gene Clark and Roy Harper in the 80s.
Avatar 2:17pm Mr Fab:

wow, Dylan worked with Joe Meek? (heh heh...)
Avatar 2:17pm Martinibomb:

I'm going to go focus on some writing i'm doing but I'm here listening and will check in again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Rich in Washington:

I've always wondered if the very early Residents were inspired by Meek. There are so many parallels with the sound of their sound and those of Meek's albums like the Blue Men record. The weird prepared piano, etc. I think a lot of it was expedience, working with what they had and a fairly primitive multitrack tape machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

OMG Otis - you love Roy Harper too???? I adore his music!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

God - imagine a Residents/Joe Meek collab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Otis Fodder:

I do, once I heard Another Day by Roy after TMC, I didn't think another version could break me down as much, but he did. And then I went on discovering his catalog. Many late night listens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Rich in Washington:

OMG! It's full of eyeballs and blue men!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm going to see The Residents in about 4 weeks. Here in Brighton - in a church. I can't wait :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Otis Fodder:

I would dig that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

"When an Old Cricketer" has the power to break me every single time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Rich in Washington:

Oh, that's cool! BTW: a Resident spokesperson is usually very available for interviews, if interested.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-)
Avatar 2:22pm Katya Oddio:

Residents without Hardy Fox, so sad to lose him. Heartbreaking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I mean ... I say I'm going to see The Residents ... but I could literally be seeing anyone to be fair. You never know.
Avatar 2:23pm Mr Fab:

yeah, what is this thing called "the Residents" anyway? Any original members? Of course we would have no idea. At this point I suppose "The Residents" is a brand as much as a band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

What made me sad about Hardy Fox was the lead up to his eventual passing. That wrapping up of loose ends and sort of saying "goodbye" :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Rich in Washington:

One original member, sadly. I've interviewed their Homer Flynn a few times, who sounds uncannily like one of the singers.
Avatar 2:25pm Katya Oddio:

Definitely, Mr. Fab. They always were. When I was with that org, I learned about how scarcity of your brand made increased fanatical demand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Rich in Washington:

I'm mean, now it's just one guy. Hardy sort of stepped out of the shadows and revealed that he was the primary musician and later musical director.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That's it. I'm going to start broadcasting in disguise. ;-)
Avatar 2:26pm Katya Oddio:

Yes, GG. It reminded me of Bowie sying goodbye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Jan Turkenburg:

make yourself a cup of tea!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Otis Fodder:

Indeed, RIP Hardy. Long live The Residents.
Avatar 2:26pm Katya Oddio:

LOL @ Georgy broadcasting in a big ol' head mask!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Rich in Washington:

They're/he's sort of trapped in this thing where the only way to make any money is to perform live on the road, something the Residents weren't really suited to. To keep the 'brand' alive, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I may already be broadcasting like that. You never know!!! ;-)
Avatar 2:27pm Katya Oddio:

Absolutely, Rich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Rich in Washington:

Hardy's passing really affected me in a way that say, Bowie did. Just really an end of an era for me. Probably also how he sort of took the mask off and told us who he was and that he was going.
Avatar 2:28pm Mr Fab:

When you're on radio, who would know!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Rich in Washington:

I DO find live Residents entertaining, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Rich in Washington:

Mr. Fab: there are people who come to the station in costumes, etc. A guy who used to come in in this devil costume thing he'd wear when doing Burning Man type events.
Avatar 2:30pm Mr Fab:

"This is GeorgyGirl. I'm a 50 ft tall lizard, broadcasting from Mars." We can't see you, after all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There are days when Brighton is a little like Mars ... HA! ;-)
Avatar 2:33pm Katya Oddio:

You folks are such a fix right in the veins, man. Not sure many in my music circles here in the desert are even clued in about Meek or the Residents. BTW, thanks to each of you for all the camaraderie about stuff we love AND for turning me on to sooooo many other sounds. Love you always for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Rich in Washington:

This is fantastic, GeorgyGirl! I really had no idea of the length and breadth of Meek's pop work, just a few tracks I have and that one somewhat limited bootleg comp that came out recently-ish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

<3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Jan Turkenburg:

And we love you back in the same way, Kat!!!!!
Avatar 2:34pm Mr Fab:

Well hey, right back atcha Katya - Oddio Overplay has hepped me to many a fine tune, y'know.
Avatar 2:35pm Katya Oddio:

Excellent! Yay! Thank you for all the great Jeff Lynne leads, Mr. Fab! (wink)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

We do!!! MEGA LOVE :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Rich in Washington:

Ditto what Mr. F. said, Katya! So true!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I turned off the bed because it felt weird having all that jolly piano underneath this bit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Rich in Washington:

Joe really was a pioneer! He was thinking companies were spying on him 50 years before Facebook/Google/Amazon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Otis Fodder:

This came up in a previous show post, can't remember where, but I ended up watching it a few weeks back. For those in chat or viewing in the future, the doc: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Excellent! Thank you for that! It really is a good film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Otis Fodder:

Nice bits/backstories GG, will catch up on the 1st hour I missed over the weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, sweetie :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

What's your show got in store for us?
Avatar 2:44pm Katya Oddio:

Of source I knew Telstar, but it was you, Otis, you led me down the Joe Meek path. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Otis Fodder:

Feeling sick this week. Started as a sore throat and today not only throat, but slight cough and the cherry on top, toothache. Music goes from Space Age to Magma.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Otis Fodder:

Frank Young assembled the very nice compilation that was up on Comfort Stand. Thanks Katya (and hey you!). I can't even recall who turned me on to Joe Meek, but my first into was the RPM release in the 90s of Hear a New World.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh no!!! I promise I haven't given it to you over the airwaves, honest. :-( Rest up tho - I made the mistake of carrying on when I should have rested and I think that's why it lasted so long. Soup and hugs from me!
2:47pm captain mike in port Whitby:

Have you played Mr.Meek’s demo for Telstar yet? He may be a genius but vocally he needs some work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@captain mike - I listened to it but made the excutive decision to not unleash it here! He really was tone deaf wasn't he? :-)
2:50pm captain mike in port Whitby:

God bless him Was he the only musician to make it big from Gloucestershire way? Arrr matey arr?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Can anyone guess what I'm playing the show out with?? ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Otis Fodder:

Honeycombs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you all for joining me this week :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Otis Fodder:

Geoff Goddard?
Avatar 2:53pm Martinibomb:

what's the book about studio techniques you're reading?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks Georgy for Joe!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, DJ GeorgyGirl! This was a wonderful and illuminating look into the world of Meek!
Avatar 2:54pm Katya Oddio:

This show is a real keeper! Well done, knowledgeable and charming DJ! Hugs all around!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm DJ GeorgyGirl:
